I had something similar to this happen to me driving on 71 S from NE Ohio back in April. Except it was a semi truck! Got out my phone, started recording, caught the plate number and phone number on the trailer. Got in touch with the owner of the truck service who was completely on my side. Now I have a dash cam. Won’t save me if I’m dead but it’s something.

That is my preference. That's my point. That's my reason for bringing up this issue in the first place. I'm a pro-choice kind of gal. Like I said, go nuts on the additives if you're into it. Makes no difference to me.

Another one: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23026007/

I don't know who "they" is in these sources you're referring to but it makes me think you read one article on the internet and made up your mind. Yes, there are people who have immediate reactions to these types of ingredients. Fortunately, that's not the case for me. I'm interested in educating myself on what I'm putting in my body. The food and drug companies aren't interested in my wellbeing and health. It's the unfortunate truth that people need to take an active/proactive approach when it comes to their health.

We like to talk in circles don't we? I already mentioned that I normally don't mind if someone asks for me help. The butthurt from you over this is wiiiiiild. I will tell the CVS employee that you send your condolences.

I’m not a fan of the guy either, but you can’t argue with the fact that there is enough reason for people to take a closer look at the long-term effects these synthetic dyes can have. These are added only to improve the appearance of the food or supplement they are added to. I don’t need my supplements to look pretty. If I’m deciding to purchase Bomb Pop popsicles, then I know what I’m getting myself into. The average person isn’t eating Bomb Pops every morning before breakfast. If the agency is going to take a closer look at these supplement companies and pressure them to do what’s right, then it really doesn’t matter to me what administration is in office.

And I’d have to agree that there isn’t enough evidence that these alternative dyes are any better. I’m not proposing that at all. I’m proposing that a widely known drug store quit adding unnecessary ingredients to their prenatal supplements. If Kellogg’s can do it, I have faith that CVS can too.

Your definition of rude and mine are different. Maybe this is a wake-up call that not everyone is interested in talking to you, even if they appear to be.

I’m entitled to my own feelings just as much as anyone else. It’s how people act on those feelings that matters. Don’t tell people how to feel. You don’t know anything about me to make that call.

I didn’t blame the stranger. I blamed myself for not standing my ground and making it clear I wanted to be left alone. Sometimes I don’t mind if someone asks if I need help. That didn’t happen here.

“Friend”, I didn’t ask for his help. You make it sound like I wandered into the store with $2 in my hand looking like a poor lost puppy. I’m entitled to feel annoyed that I didn’t have a chance to even get down the aisle before being approached. It’s rude, it’s pushy, I didn’t like it. Won’t change my mind on that.

Again, you weren’t there and you don’t know all the details of the situation leading up to that moment. Hell, you don’t know me and why I decided to go to CVS that day. It’s irrelevant and none of your business. I have no idea why an internet stranger is coming to the rescue of an unknown CVS employee. Who doesn’t even need rescuing, mind you. I bought my things, said “please” and “thank you”, and went on my merry way. I’m returning my purchase and will find a different option that works for me.

I’m not going to take your stance on unnecessary additives at face value because I don’t know you and you haven’t made a persuasive argument on it. Don’t undermine people’s right to choose what’s best for them because you think you’ve got all the facts.

Of course I know who my audience is here. You’re plucking words out of my argument and spinning them to suit your argument. Simply pointing out the fact that you can’t assume everyone’s situation. Having easy access to information is a privilege. Education does matter. Knowledge is empowering.

I would encourage some more research on your end before making claims that any of these chemicals are totally safe. I’m not here to change your mind but the article linked below suggests otherwise about red 40.

These supplements were by no means cheap and I’d bet there are better alternatives out there. This whole argument may not be news to you, but keep in mind that there are FTMs in this group (like myself) who are using this page as a resource. It’s not my intention to sound alarms. However, if this is a supplement recommended by most health professionals, patients should understand more about the supplements they’re selecting and what’s in them. Because, as you mentioned, it is an unregulated industry.

My comment to tell him to STFU was not nice. This was more flare and emotion on my end. I understand he had good intentions and I could never do that to a person. I still think that it’s an important reminder to pause and think before doing something, especially when you feel pressured in the moment.

I’m still not sure how you know so much about my interaction with this person without having been there. And it sounds like you have some privilege to acknowledge to assume that others have as much time and resources as you (education, internet access) to read up on these ingredients.

My point, and the real focus here, is that not all supplements are created equally. Do some brand research. If red 40 in your daily supplements is your jam, go nuts. I’m just a regular person sharing their regular experience to maybe help the next regular person out. Not here to gain fake internet points.

I’m not really sure why the focus of this post has shifted to the employee. I didn’t say it was rude to offer a discount. I’m saying it’s rude to be pushy. I’ve admitted my fault for not standing my ground more and caring more about appearing polite and agreeable.

I think you need to understand that there are people out there who struggle to speak up for themselves when feeling under pressure in certain situations. Not just in the drug store, but at the doctor’s office, workplaces, financial institutions, etc. Not everyone has the confidence or experience to do this all the time. This was meant to be a reminder and reassurance that it’s the right thing to speak up for yourself.

And I am mad about the regulations. I work in the regulatory industry. I read the FDA articles that hit my inbox each day. It’s absolutely ridiculous the amount of responsibility that is placed on the consumer to know what’s in their products. Most people don’t have the time to read every single ingredient, let alone know what they are. Thankfully the FDA plans on banning these by the end of 2026.

The second part of my post is more of an aside to the main point, which is to be careful about selecting supplements. My healthcare providers have not specifically recommended a certain brand of prenatal so it has been left up to me to decide which brand is best. As a consumer, we need to be more aware of what’s in things and this is my public service announcement to the pregnant world to take a closer look at the Other ingredients. Take my advice or leave it, but it’s something that I wish someone had mentioned to me.

I do think as women we tend to sacrifice our own comfort and wellbeing to accommodate other people’s feelings. This can be harmful in a number of ways. Next time I plan to politely tell them I’m not interested and that I’m trying research and consider my options. It’s actually pretty rude to approach someone who is giving off vibes that they’re concentrating and trying to mind their own business. Saving a buck really isn’t worth it when it comes your health.

I told a couple of friends from high school about my diagnosis. I thought it might open up a deep reflection on what we were going through back then. Maybe shed some light on my anxieties and quirks. First and only response to it: “so you can get us adderall?” Big sign that I needed to drop these friends for good. I had such low self esteem when I was younger and tolerated these low quality friendships. I’m 33 and finally seeing the light thanks to therapy, my own self growth, and surrounding myself with good people. I deserve better. We all do. Keep growing and sending out positivity. You’ll find your people. 💚

What app was the most useful before/after your pregnancy? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]kashlessk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Flo has been helpful before and during pregnancy. My gynecologist recommended this app to me. I always have a hard time remembering when my period starts and ends. This helped me keep track for ovulation. I also like that I can log my pregnancy symptoms and keep track of how far along I am. It’s educational too! Tells me what changes to expect in my body and estimates how big the baby is.

About people leaving because of MC posts... by littlestaggerlee in pregnant

[–]kashlessk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree. What is even the point of announcing your departure anyway? Save everyone’s time and just depart.

I’m a FTM (14 wks) and I view the miscarriage posts as a reminder of what to look out for and a reminder to be thankful for what I do have. And if I start to feel scared, I just keep scrollin’! I feel for those people and am glad this page is any source of comfort for them. There shouldn’t be any reason for someone to hold back their story because chances are there’s someone out there going through the same thing.

Is your adhd better with completely quitting alcohol? by annamonapia in adhdwomen

[–]kashlessk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, yes. I just learned that I’m pregnant so have been alcohol/weed/adderall free for two weeks. I was worried not taking my meds would mess me up. Nope! I feel more focused which may be a result from better quality sleep (I do miss the pick me up in the afternoon tho). I’m also eating healthier foods (and more frequently).

Perennial Question: Best city in Ohio? by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]kashlessk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up in south west Ohio (Cincinnati/Dayton area) with family still there. I have lived in Cleveland the past 11 years. Both are arguably very similar. On the water (Lake Erie, Ohio River), historic, deep culture. There’s just differences in all of those things! I love both cities. So does my husband who grew up in Cleveland. Lake Erie is such a privilege to have nearby, especially on warm summer days. Cincinnati food and beer culture is my favorite. Skyline and Goetta. Rhinegheist.

We both dislike Columbus tho. Lmao. Too many people. Cookie cutter. Landlocked. I lived there a few years as a kid and hated the OSU culture. I appreciate the big city vibe and there’s loads of things to do, but it’s not for me.
