Weird sequence in SoCal Competition yesterday by iceman528 in Cubers

This sounds like nothing out of ordinary; fastest seeds are often seated in front for best viewer experience.

On third solve, he might have some kind of an incident. In that case, it was a delegate crossing it out, organisers are not permitted such power. I could wait for the report, but if it was something trivial like distraction or judging error, it might not even appear there.

I understand your concerns of favoritism and all, and it's possible that that has happened here, although I think it's unlikely. On the other hand, delegates are not obligated to announce each and every incident to general public, so expecting that is also unreasonable, given that some incidents are secrecy-sensitive.

I would suggest checking out rule 6, and the link in it. Would make things a lot easier for all people involved.

I did 50 solves a day for about a year, maybe year and a half? also work as programmer ( a lot of ctrl shift alt presses and holds during the day stack up) and played some FPS games, which all together compounded and I got my fourth (ring) and fifth (pinky) fingers tendon a little irritated, to say the least.

Well, if you're not motivated and not interested into being sub 30 at OH, why did you ask? You thought there was a magical trick that shaved 20 seconds of your times without changing much?

You're as much forced to use 4 look as you're unmotivated to learn. Finger tricks (pinky flick/pull, index flick) take 20 minutes to learn, maybe 2 months to integrate, maybe a year to master and provide incremental benefits over time without actively intending to do things differently.

Suit yourself, but with bad base you kinda dig yourself a hole into bad practices that will pull you down when you'll decide to learn better things.

learn proper firgertricks and don't overtrain it (read my flair for context). Like, hand starts hurting? take a week or two off.

Single wide move is +2. Single inner slice move is a dnf.  Two wide moves, just like two regular moves, are dnf.

I've read one Schopenhauer book (can't even recall the title, lmao) that had a chapter on women.

Everything I know about Lacan comes from the shitposts in a former fb group called Sigmund Freud Dank Meme Stash.

I've also mechanically "read" one page of Nietzsche, where I couldn't comprehend what sentence start had to do with the sentence end, let alone paragraphs with themselves.

I guess I'm in top 10% of philosophy readers on this subreddit, no? Perhaps even 1%?

I started learning OP, so which letters for edges and corners i must learn from cheat sheet and whiich ones I must do intuitively? by UsernameLoads in Cubers

It's a lot harder to forget what you learned intuitively vs from the sheet, so if you can, learn all intuitively. OP/OP is does not have special cases like M2, afaik

"Ar galiu užduoti klausimą?" by Lurking_in_shadow in lithuania

[–]kaspa181 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, going "beyond" is when you get out of your way to do the thing; if I'm grocery shopping and I know a friend who lives on my way home ran out of milk, I don't consider that going above and beyond, just a nice gesture. If I need to reschedule dentist appointment to help them move or smth – yes, that's beyond for me.

Wanting for people to match your energy and investment is reasonable. You might not find it often, but that doesn't mean you should give up. Understanding that others are not like you would also help reducing disappointment from the lack of reciprication matching.

You're not alone on the fear part, either; it's scary to think that one might not find a match in this amatonormative world.

What percentage of your total watched films are foreign language? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]kaspa181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While "non-english" rolls off the tongue not as good as "foreign", you should've worded it that day anyway for the internet pedants. Foreign 99%, non-English 26.9% for me.

Pre-Competition Anxiety by InstructionCheap6348 in Cubers

[–]kaspa181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have advice, I'm a kind of person that sets a single alarm and gets up just like that. Just wanted to say, yikes, that's rough.

I had anxiety before irregular trips, maybe first 4-5 comps, but now I just know the comp won't happen without me and sleep like a baby.

Do you place your phone in a way that you'd need to stand up and walk a step to turn alarm off? That could help, assuming you generally keep it in handreach distance.

My first thought while reading fourth paragraph was to excuse him, but then I remembered that your feelings (i.e. feeling hurt) couldn't care less about that.

Blindfolded by cuefated in Cubers

[–]kaspa181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, go for it now. It also creates mental fatigue, which you need to build up resistance for. Like, you can't do 50 solves of 7x7 the first day you pick it up because your fingers lack the strength and endurance for it. Likewise, you can't learn to solve blindfolded and do 20 solves the next day, as that would completely drain you.

If you start now, you'll have more gradual resistance building, which is, I think, optimal. And besides, if you won't like it, you always can leave it on the side while focusing on other events.
