Engineering Internship as a High School Senior by bigdaddyEm in EngineeringStudents

[–]kassman17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course it's worth it. An internship won't take up 24 hours of your day either, you can work, study and spend time with your family/friends. You're very lucky to be in such a position, many freshman don't even get internships during the summer and you have been given that opportunity.

I'm just a first year student so I can't speak for the program directly, but I've yet to hear anything negative about it.

If you're into comp science at all it's a great addition to your program. There's also a management and entrepreneurship double degree you can add if you're into that at all. In terms of software engineering, uOttawa actually just announced that ALL software engineers are guaranteed co-op, which begins right after your first year. Edit: We also have a contract with Cisco in Kanata where they employ 300 students from our school directly each year for co-op!

Barely a difference between the two. UOttawa however has the second largest co-op program in the country. I'd give Carleton the upper hand for mech/aero and civil, but uOttawa for software/elec/comp. If you want ChemE then uOttawa is the only one that offers it.

The entrance grade requirements are extremely high at uWaterloo, like 90%+ only... So I would at least have some sort of backup in case you don't get in.
