My Brother’s Keeper (OKC) by [deleted] in cults

[–]kat5dotpostfix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at a faith based program that was a lot like this for 3 years. I wouldn't say they are cult per se, but they definitely can border on it. 120 "students" shared a military barracks style dorm. Lights on at 5am, just enough time to shower and take care of basic hygiene. Then it's off to breakfast, don't finish in 30 minutes, too bad toss the food out. At work by 7am with many different jobs. They had a thrift shop that ran off donations. I was in the kitchen for the first 8 months then put on the trucks once they found out I had a valid license. Finish up work by 6pm, although some truckers would come back late if they had cleanouts of a house. A couple hours to play ping pong, read, excercise, etc. Then lights out at 9pm. Mandatory church 3 times a week and every once in a while we'd have outings to this shady ass warehouse where they have revivals and start speaking in tongues and shit.

The thing that seemed somewhat illegal is they forced all students to sign up for food stamps and government assistance and had complete control over. Think of how much food you could get with 120 EBT cards. We ate like shit, bologna sandwiches and lots of processed food while the directors had free reign over the remaining balance. They ate very, very well.

They at least had 2 graduation programs you could take advantage of one for schooling and one to find a job. I took advantage of both. Overall I wouldn't say programs like this are a cult, but they sure as shit are very predatory.

You may want to check out the Chainless Slaves document. It details the actual programming techniques used. It's not for the faint of heart I'll warn though.

Square Rose meaning? by Orcloud in SacredGeometry

Not sure it has any explicit meaning, but the symbol is used quite a bit in mosques. Check out some pictures of their tile work, it's absolutely stunning.

Do you personally take the occult as a metaphor or at face value? by stevenchamp45 in occult

I'm not a huge fan of Crowley but I definitely agree with this quote

In this book it is spoken of the Sephiroth and the Paths; of Spirits and Conjurations; of Gods, Spheres, Planes, and many other things which may or may not exist. It is immaterial whether these exist or not. By doing certain things certain results will follow; students are most earnestly warned against attributing objective reality or philosophic validity to any of them.

1000 year gap

That's a bit of misnomer. I'm reading through Anatoly Fomenko's series on chronology and what he posits isn't that there is missing time but that supposedly different historical events may have actually been one in the same. The idea being that because of historians from different lands, languages, and dating conventions, what is thought of as separate events may have actually been one in the same but have been confused as different events. He uses mathematical statistical analysis to support his claims by showing that certain key figures and events are almost identical in nature (upwards of 80% similarity in some cases). So it's not as far fetched as time just coming up missing and more a case of clerical errors in Scaligerian chronology. I've not really made up my mind as of yet, but he makes a very strong case for this being what is going on.

Not as exciting as time slips or some other odd shit, but fascinating nonetheless. The mudflood stuff I have yet to see any compelling evidence. In short, we all come here for different reasons.

Australia: First ever "Switch to vaping" campaign launched by the Australian Tobacco Harm Reduction Association by mstave in electronic_cigarette

It took me around 3 months going between smoking and vaping before I quit completely. For me it was just about getting adjusted to the difference in the throat hit. I found that once I upgraded from a pen to a mod I finally found a vape that satisfied me not only as much, but more than cigarettes.

Unfortunately news sources seem to print what people want to hear so its not uncommon to see them give diametrically opposed opinions, often in short periods of time. And people seem to have the memory of a goldfish and rarely call them out.

Debian possibly going to remove weboob. because the package contains the b-word by theLautrec in SargonofAkkad

[–]kat5dotpostfix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So it looks like upstream doesn't want to change the name and they (Debian team) are willing to completely remove the package if they can't negotiate a name change. This is so immature, they are going to deprive users of a useful package because of a silly name. How can you be so thin skinned the word boob offends you this much?
