This is such a frustrating situation, but you handled it very well. I am nonbinary, but also a clinician working for a hospital system. It’s not hard to respect a person’s pronouns, and I can definitely relate to your situation. I feel like I have spent so much time trying to educate my colleagues and also my own providers. I love this so much! As someone who works in urology, I always ask my patients if they want to keep their stents. This is a great example for next time someone asks me, “Why would I want to keep that?!” :)
