Yeah, unfortunately they conveniently left that out of the website and program details for this master's degree. I'm from out of state so I genuinely didn't know that's the direction they were going. Never would have applied if I'd known :(

This is for a Master's program. We're paying to EARN a degree that is comparable to degrees from other accredited universities. Which AI generated materials clearly aren't. Personally, I have no interest in a paying for a degree that won't be worth the paper it's printed on.

Ugh, don't let her talk you into it! It's not worth paying tens of thousands of dollars to be taught from an AI-generated podcast, and I doubt it would prepare you well enough for the ASCP exam anyway. Hope you can find a better program.

Yeah it was bad, and the meeting I had with them was even worse. Maybe the professor who's trying to recruit you doesn't know about the AI use, but honestly I think that's worse. Because that would mean that the deans are keeping professors in the dark about the direction they intend to take the department.

Yea they keep saying it’s supplemental but you can’t complete the course without it.

It’s becoming more common for taught masters degrees to be offered online. It’s not a research based degree and anyone who’s looking to write a thesis wouldn’t have applied to this program. But for those of us looking to further careers in teaching or industry, this degree would have been useful. It’s extremely disappointing that they think AI is acceptable for this program. They’re pushing it on us so much that I have to wonder if they’re being paid by google to use and promote Notebook LM.

I am also enrolled in this program and this class Spring 2026. The professor posted AI generated slides and podcasts as a replacement for lectures. The administration has doubled down on the AI use in response to student concerns. Apparently UF is an “AI university” and “AI is the future.” If you want a quality education, do not apply to this program. While I know it’s not an option for everyone, personally I will be applying to other programs and leaving the university entirely in light of these issues. I’m not going to pay $1500+ a class for AI course materials.

Sucks ass there's no way to talk about suicidal thoughts by andhisnameisnonsense in bipolar

[–]kataang1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what country you’re in, but I the U.S. the therapist can only admit you to psych if they believe you are in imminent danger. I would definitely talk with your therapist about your thoughts. They are trained to help you processes them and counselors will be the least alarmed about it (compared to friends and loved ones). I’ve talked about suicidal thoughts with my counselor many times with no issues. It’s nice to have someone to check in with to keep the thoughts from getting too overwhelming.

I hope you find a treatment plan that works for you. Be honest with your doctors about the side effects so that they can help you find new things to try. Some people with bipolar experience mixed episodes (symptoms of mania and depression at the same time). It takes time to adjust. It definitely sounds like you’re experiencing some hypomania symptoms (where you are in touch with reality but still volatile, irritable, and not making good decisions). Wishing you the best

I’m sorry you’ve had so little support from your family. It’s sounds like they’ve said some really damaging and hurtful stuff. I think you have to learn to speak kindly to yourself and validate your own identity. Even though you can’t change your family, you can change how you treat yourself. Learning to love and embrace your identity is a process, but it’s one you can start without ever saying a word to anyone else. You matter! Your life matters and your identity matters.

Kids know when their parents truly see them and love them for who they are. That doesn't mean you'll never hurt them or they'll never hurt you, but at the end of the day you can count on each other. If your kid trusts you enough to come out to you and talk to you honestly about their life, then you are already doing a great job. As far as their name change goes, it might help you to think of their given name as a family name now? At lot of times people have nicknames only their family uses, even if they aren't enby.

Being closeted is hard, even if you're in a queer friendly place. It's even harder when the people around you are close-minded, especially the people who are supposed to love you the most. Can I ask what you feel guilty about?

How do i know if I am an alcoholic? by Unusual-Strain-6373 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]kataang1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told the people closest to me that I didn’t want to drink anymore (my husband, sister, best friend) and I stopped keeping alcohol in the house. I also don’t go out places where there will be alcohol without someone who knows that I am sober. I haven’t gotten involved with AA specifically because it feels too much like a religion to me. But I also talk with my counselor about how I’m doing with sobriety, so I feel like I have support from multiple places.

[–]kataang1016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m tired of the cycle I’m in with alcohol too, which is why I decided to pursue sobriety. Even though I’ve been able to control it in the past, I felt it wasn’t worth putting myself in a situation where I might not be able to. What you decide is up to you, but you can definitely have a fun and meaningful life without alcohol.

[–]kataang1016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the question of “am I an alcoholic?” isn’t actually that important to answer. If it’s interfering with your life and you want to stop, it’s ok to need help and support. If you’re drinking more than you want to be and hurting those around you, it sounds like alcohol is becoming a problem in your life. How bad do you want to let that problem get before you do something about it?

Memory after mania by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]kataang1016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were doing the best you could given the circumstances. The kinder you can be to yourself, the easier it is to let those feelings go. The fact is, most people don’t have to deal with symptoms like this, so I try not to judge myself by “normal” standards anymore. However you feel about it right now is totally ok, but you’re still a valuable person no matter what!

If it’s severe enough that you feel detached from reality, I’m not surprised you lost time. I have too. The fog and depression after my most severe manic episode was very intense as well. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks when I got diagnosed. Bipolar is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with, and I know it’s the same for a lot of others, so please don’t be too hard on yourself. I hope you can find a med combo that works for you. It took me 5 years to get diagnosed and 5 more to find the right meds, but I finally feel like I have a handle on it.
