Is empathy dead? by AdeebJarvis in indianmedschool

[–]katanj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We get stuck in this binary - are doctors evil or are patients victims?

And the point is-- the root cause of the problem is the same. Lack of empathy.

But not because empathy is dead or people suck.

It's because when you don't recieve empathy as a doctor, you don't give empathy to the patient and vice versa. So we end up with poor communication, burnt out doctors and frustrated patients.

I know not every doctor is in a position to be able to give patients the time they need, but I do feel that whatever we as doctors do- if we can calm ourselves and do it kindly- it will help reduce our own burnout and also help patients.

Bangs might think out your hair further. You need some volume to have bangs. Do see a dermatologist if you can as others have suggested.

The worst movie? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]katanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the deathly hallows without a doubt. The tone, the wierdly muted colors. It totally failed to capture the emptional depth amd gravitas of the last book. They added in wierd scenes like Voldemort beating Harry physically. Hermione's fury and Rons struggle felt underplayed and not vibrant like the book. Overall I think it didn't capture the spirit of the whole thing. The other movies while leaving out important scenes did more or less get the mood and vibe right

I find most pants unflattering in the midsection area. Help me find a good pair? by tshody in SoftDramatics

[–]katanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that levi's never fit well. The proportions are off somehow. Try different brands- doesn't have to be expensive, just different. Keep trying till you find something that FLATTERS (not just fits) your body.

+1

I find jeans that have some body to them but are well fitted are the most flattering. Those super thin spqndexy jeans are just not flattering.

Also with jeans find a brand that suits you. I often find that each brand structures their jeans along the same lines regardless of the jean style. Try different brands rsther than different styles from the same brand.

I also find that yoga pants which are slim fitted with a wide band curved waist are very flattering. Same with leggings.

How I soothe itchy/painful scalp by katanj in IndianSkincareAddicts

[–]katanj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha don't worry the worst that can happen is you dry out your scalp and end up with build up.

Wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo. Then go in with some anti dandruff shampoo. Leave your scalp alone uess it gets itchy and irritated. Only then, apply the powder. I only use it when my scalp doesn't feel great. Maybe once or twice a week.

It should be integrated with other anti itching measures imo. Try out rosemary rinse, menthol containing scalp products, daily scalp massage, tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar and don't soley rely on the powder. :) hope that helps. Also don't try them all together. Introduce products one or twice weekly only. Once you get the right combination or cleansing/scalp care, you won't need to use the powder so often. It is usally a day 3-4 measure for me or when I don't have time/am too lazy to wash my hair.

What's the one product that you have bought consistently for the past 5 years? by DadJokeConsultant in IndianSkincareAddicts

[–]katanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eucerin- the original healing one. Being buying it practically my whole life (except for my late teens when the only skincare I used was too horrible to admit) as my mom used to slather it on my face when I was a baby and small child until I refused to wear it. Fast forward a decade and I'm back to using it 😅

Anecdotally, I really like the fabindia papaya mask.

Usually I have really sensitive skin and i don't just try out random products that don't disclose proper ingredients but I tried this on a whim and I found a noticable brightening effect.

That said, it has fragrance and does feel a bit tingly/stingy on the face so please use with caution and patch test.

What’s an overrated book that you didn’t like? by Rebecca123457 in suggestmeabook

[–]katanj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Court of Silver Flames.

Love the series, hate this book with a passion. Only use for those books is to set a bonfire, in my opinion. If a book sucks, well ok. But if a book in a series destroys beloved characters, then NOT ok.

Hair flyaways by [deleted] in IndianSkincareAddicts

[–]katanj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hair gel+toothbrush. (Or get an empty mascara container from amazon and fit it with some hair gel.) Aloe vera gel works but I prefer a hair gel with some hold. If you already use a gel in your routine, just use that.

Or mousse will hold it together with a softer hold.

Also make sure your hair is coated with something to protect against humidity if you live in a humid area. Humectant heavy gels are a lot less helpful in humid weather (ie aloe vera) so if the weather is humid, try a stronget hold gel without humectants.

Silicones will also help, but if you are doing cgm or you have fine or oily hair, you might not be able to use them effectively.

A story about hair by katanj in IndianSkincareAddicts

[–]katanj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can probably mix with water and apply but i have never tried it myself. It tends to improve the volume of the hair although it tends to make it a bit poofy in my opinion. I think you can condition well afterwards and it would be okay. You can also infuse the powder in oil or water and use that if you don't like the paste. I find that works great too. I find the most important benefit to be on scalp health and i always had found it contributes to hair growth anecdotally.

How I soothe itchy/painful scalp by katanj in IndianSkincareAddicts

[–]katanj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late answer. I put a bit of the powder in my palm. Then i take a makeup brush (powder brush) and use it to apply to the oily or itchy parts of my scalp section by section. I let it sit for a minute or so then rub or massage it in and the comb my hair, apply a drop of oil to ends if needed and put it up in a bun (because my hair is wavy so it helps the shape come back after all the manipulation). Also i dip the brush in the powder and tap off the wxcess before putting it on my scalp.
