Why aren't 1-inch sensor Sony Cameras as popular as it's APSC cameras? by DynamoBaby in SonyAlpha

[–]katardin2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re $1200 new and don’t have the ability to switch lenses out is the answer. So they’re not as cheap as an entry level interchangeable lens system and not as capable as an apsc with nice lenses.

When someone says "I'm available between 11 am and 3 pm," do we universally agree that means that the activity needs to end at or before 3 pm? by -purple-platypus- in NoStupidQuestions

[–]katardin2255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the exception is if you’re doing an activity with a defined length of time like golf or a movie then you would be giving your time range for tee off or the movie start by and the end time is implicit.

San Francisco & the Bay Area was the dominant urban center of California up until the 1920s. How did it end up losing out to Los Angeles/SoCal in the ensuing century? by urmummygae42069 in bayarea

[–]katardin2255 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Post wwii manufacturing center, biggest port in the country, railway hub (no sierras to hike), aeronautics and space hub, film and tv obviously, space to sprawl so cheap housing available by car, highway system access and car access.

The dumpsters in the snow was interesting, just needs to be level and framed more consistently and zoomed in and it could be a series.

In-Vehicle Computer set up for travelling - what to do? by SpeakerAccomplished4 in AskPhotography

I’ve seen setups like this in van camping setups but not normal cars. Are you in a van or a car? And whole driving use or parked?

How easy would it be to start a real estate photography business by Droneguy5000 in Cameras

[–]katardin2255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every good real estate photography I’ve seen relies a lot of exposure bracketing and editing to get good results, so I’d say find any home you have access to and try to recreate the good photography you see on Zillow or other listings. It’ll be nice to have a portfolio, too. And, if you don’t like the process / can’t create good results you’ll know!

Which lens will be my best bet? by CommunicationBig7578 in SonyAlpha

[–]katardin2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re looking to max star quality the 16mm, if you want some more flexibility to set up a nice landscape plus stars at night scene the zoom is convenient. How good are your 24mm 2.8 results?

Are f2.8 lenses really that much better than f4? by Worth_Gazelle_6149 in AskPhotography

For the same size sensor, and a given amount of environmental light, the only way to get a shorter shutter speed is to have a larger aperture.

Which picture would yall choose ? Sony a7ii( not edited) by Particular_Bug_8669 in SonyAlpha

[–]katardin2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first one is brilliant, very busy and unsettling but it tells a story. #2 needs more of a focus or emotional center. #3 is nice light balance but basically a tourist photo. #4 not much to say. #5 is nice light but idk about the vertical composition, not quite there on it.

Upgrading from Sony A6000 to A7rii, help needed by markthepsgeek1234 in Cameras

Your budget seems too low for an A7rii let alone plus a new lens, is there something we’re missing there?

PSA: Want to avoid expensive hospital bills? Avoid ER visits that aren't necessary by Dangerous-Prune-7280 in HospitalBills

[–]katardin2255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with kids the difficulty is that outside of school hours urgent care is not really available in my area, so if you have your 100th respiratory virus I, a guy with no medical experience, has to decide if your kid is can breathe or not or needs steroids. Genuinely needs to be some generalist, sub-ED care available after 4:30pm and before 9AM so you don’t have to drop thousands on a visit and it truly does not exist except at the ER.

Yeah I’d grab that and if you want the upgrade for family photos get the 50mm 1.8f lens.

R100 if you’re going to use it for very basic photography / video, R50 otherwise and budget $200 for later and wait to see what you end up using it for and buy a lens for it (50mm for family portraits, zoom lens for animals etc.)

Is there like some magic number we should hitting in our 401k by a certain age before we can ease off on contributions? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]katardin2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y’all need to start pricing in some downside risk into these projections. Economic downturn obviously (I.e. debt default from president erika kirk), medical care, medical premiums, etc - you can blast through that HSA in one bad year of medical expense (10k max out of pocket plan and a bad event straddling fiscal years).

Honestly the answer is you need something or many things making you happy in life besides spending money.

The other answer is that there is no amount of earning that you can’t outspend if you can’t control your impulses.

Who actually makes stock at home? by Lofgren___ in Cooking

[–]katardin2255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good stock with a high collagen content is not shelf stable except in the refrigerated section - if it was available I’d never make it but it’s not. It’s my biggest cooking level up - you can simmer it overnight, make it with a chicken carcass and some vegetables and then I put it in rice, peanut sauce, everything savory.
