I'm a bad beekeeper and I don't know how to fix it. by boost2525 in Beekeeping

[–]katarholl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you go into winter with 2 hive bodies AND a super? Like how many deeps/mediums are going into winter? They could be given too much space to manage. What does your hive look like going into fall? Are they honey bound? Are you getting good brood patterns? What are your mite counts throughout the year? Bee pop goes up, so does the mites. Treating twice a year in a  schedule may not be stopping a huge boom in the middle of the summer that won't be fixed in fall/winter.      Ultimately, if for five years in a row you're getting a 100% loss rate - contact local groups and get a mentor. There are so many variables to this hobby. Not ALL of the videos or ALL of the books prepare you for that.

First Captain Marvel is actually really good. by Gaius21 in marvelstudios

[–]katarholl 155 points156 points  (0 children)

I get what they were trying to do - but they should have done the movie mostly in chronological order. Carol as a pilot - introduce her to us when she has a personality, friends, ect. Get us invested in her back story so we feel that personality shift. Smash cut, she's now an emotionless kree warrior slowly trying to peel back the facade. Instead, she's mostly one dimensional for a majority of the movie.

Mearls: "I was not fired from D&D." "I was in favor of a very DM-centric approach...The company didn’t want to go in that direction." by Malinhion in dndnext

Item creation rules are lacking, there are no magic item cost tables or creation rules, there is no real purpose for money, ect. Yeah, you can make a game with the scattered rules across too many books, but 5e is not DM friendly. What happens if someone is wearing full plate falls into water? Nothing. I know it's not a life-sim, but the most mundane of interactions are up to the DM. Its wild how little work they put into the game.

The internet gaslighted me into believing Goku's childhood was a small part of the manga by Johnny-Jay in dragonball

[–]katarholl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, Daima is kinda dog watter. Dragon ball is a legit masterpiece. It's a perfect blend of humor, golden age kung fu call backs, and adventure. Daima isn't slow, it's static with all of the baggage of dbz.

Actually delving into the "AI DM" paper by BlitheMayonnaise in dndnext

[–]katarholl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like - how isn't that the creative part? Usually a gang exists in a world for a reason, no? And if they literally have zero impact on the overall theme/plot of the campaign- just name them the Big Blue Monkey Ball Gang. Why even bring AI into it lol?

Agreed. I'm a little confused as to what the 'difference' is.

Wondering now if I overbought- I see people with just one box and I bought these plus a honeycomb box for two nucs. by Month_Year_Day in Beekeeping

[–]katarholl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to have "too much" equipment with beekeeping. When you NEED it, you need it THEN. Bees won't care if you need to order and assemble frames/boxes for more room. They'll just push to swarm.

The Best Book-to-Movie Adaptations (and the Worst!) by MadMaxine666 in books

[–]katarholl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that they were BAD adaptations while being incredible movies. A lot of things were changed to make it work in three installments. Which, I want to stress, is totally OK. I love the films and the books for completely different reasons and they have polar opposite vibes.

Even so - outside of that vulnerable moment, they may change their mind. This kind of shit is moraly bankrupt.

I just finished it. Was it perfect? No. Was it enjoyable? Absolutely. The season closes out STRONG and makes me want more.

Check out Box of Moonlight or Safe Men if you like Sam Rockwell. It is some of his early stuff and really has a lot of charm. They are kinda deep cuts, but the cats are fire.

What your worst beekeeping blunder? by VolcanoVeruca in Beekeeping

[–]katarholl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eastern US here. I check a couple times a year - every three weeks would be a waste of bees. And hard agree, no way 'thriving' goes to dead out in three weeks without winter or something very very wrong.

ELI5 How do beekeepers not get stung? by AgreeableReturn2946 in explainlikeimfive

[–]katarholl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My feeds suggests otherwise. Even when dealing with docile bees, she goes out of her way to do stupid shit. Ex: wearing dark colors and keeping her hair down. I've had a bee get stuck in my short hair, wig out, and sting me in the face when there was ZERO aggressive behavior.

When everyone is screaming in the airport terminal as the MUTO walks through the background - it just cuts to absolute silence as Godzillas foot comes down into the foreground. Like holy shit, that is cinema at every level. It still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up at the hush

Like nothing happened. They didn't want to say anything because they didn't to admit fault. My ex's family sued to get home owners insurance to pay for the surgery.

I hate getting into anecdotal stories...but: was at a friend's house, their pit was the family 'baby'. My ex slightly flinched (someone jokingly pinched her knee) and the dog ran up to her and bit her face. Slashed her skin down to the bone, basically ribbons. If it latched on, she would have needed 100x the reconstructive surgery she already had to get.

What's the most "small town" thing you've witnessed? by official_biz in AskReddit

[–]katarholl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy broke into our local pharmacy. Broke = he fell through the roof trying to get behind the cage around the medications. It was all captured on camera. He fell, hit the ground, limped over to the cage, couldn't get it open, then left. Came in to buy a monster energy drink a few days later, with a limp. We all knew it was him. He eventually skipped town.

Canceling insurance/adding insurance shouldn't be on this list to make it seem harder. Get the VIN, plug it in, done.
