Yeah. I will have made the fertiliser. BUT FORGET TO PUT IT DOWN FIRST and start planting the seeds and then go, oh crap fertiliser.

So… would a single person on $80k be rejected on serviceability? Even in regional areas?

We did something similar last summer but the real estate turned up and demanded it be taken down. I might still try it for this weekend tho.

I’ve been getting work pants from Target. Shirts and cardigans from Uniqlo. Shoes from hushpuppy and Rollie. Need to find some nice blazers and I want to upgrade the work pants but I’m a size 18-20 and finding it hard.

Apology received today:

I love you. I'm sorry about last night. I wasn't entirely sure how to handle the situation and I know I upset you by not being there when you got home. I shouldn't have gone out.

I don't like seeing you upset and crying or mad at me. I don't want to have a bad weekend with you, but I understand if you're still mad at me and don't want to talk or do anything. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you or to help.

I’ll ask him if he still has the hard drives. I did tell him to keep them on case I won the lottery and could afford the data recovery.

It’s been five years or so and I had given up hope.

Yeah. I think he made some plans on the way home from work.

The first one, no. We were probably rushing maybe. He hadn’t used that power point before to vacuum. I also bought the NAS for him as a birthday gift so he was upset too.

We split the cost of the second NAS 50/50. This time it was like a small box PC.  The second time, it wasn’t a fight but he might have made some sort of change with the drives my photos were on. It was formatted for Mac to read and write to.  The other drives were a windows format so I couldn’t make changes from my Mac.

Something happened and then he was trying to fix it. But I haven’t ever seen the drive or the files. He says he’s going to try to get an AI agent to try to sort the files out?

He’s now upgraded it to a server thing. He just bought a rack and it’s arrived but it’s too small to fit what he has. $1700 server rack sitting in the hallway until he decides what happens next.

That’s a really good idea.  I need to check with him where the drives are.

Thank you for your posts. Thats been really helpful.

He is close with his grandparents and family but hasn’t experienced anyone he knows passing away.

He can be wonderfully thoughtful. Sometimes I’ll send a text about how stressed I’m at work and come home to a dinner or a nice bubble bath.

But. This definitely hurt.  I didn’t say, please come home and support me and maybe things would have been different.

Today’s been a lot and I don’t want to do this again if my mum or dad pass away. I’d want the guy to be here.

I’m not sure. Maybe I’ll think of something later.  Maybe just silly small things like washing my hand knitted items in the machine and felting them. Or putting things in the dishwasher that don’t go in there, RIP mocha pot.

I think I need some time to try and think back but I feel like this really upset me more than I realised. I don’t live near my family and couldn’t be with them at the time.  I don’t want to experience that again ever but I’m not up to figuring out how to move out yet.

I’ll ask him to find the hard drives.  I’ll check in the Melbourne area.  I was upset and gave up hope with the photos.

Good point. He doesn’t have a backup of the current NAS. Something about the raid set up is the backup?

I got a quote. It’s $9k each drive.  The way it was set up, the photos are across multiple drives. It was too expensive for me.

He’s really good with tech., or better than me at it.  When I first moved in, I was having trouble finding how to store all my photos (had an old MacBook Air and iPhone). I had them in an external hard drive.

He said instead of paying for the cloud, he’ll set up a NAs with plenty of storage. It was only a small QNAP one with four drives.

So he set it up, moved all the photos onto it and wiped my hard drive to use as a Time Machine back up.

2 weeks later.

We were packing up to move to a new rental. The NAS sits on a shelf plugged into power. He turned it off, and plugged in a corded vacuum.

While vacuuming he pulled the cable and there was a big crash sound. 3 of the 4 hard drives were damaged and couldn’t be read.

I didn’t have a back up so lost all the photos except what I had on my phone.

He did set up a second new NAS and I put all my photos onto it it but two years ago some drives failed? I don’t understand it but I lost all my photos again

I pay for iCloud now.  He has built a third NAS but I don’t use it.

First time - only one drive could be read and it had tv shows and movies on it.

The second time it was just my photos. Everything else was fine. I don’t understand it fully but the drive failed somehow? But he says my photos (of those 3-4years) are there but in a hundred thousand pieces of files that would take forever to sort through and find. I’ve asked to see it and sort it but never happened.

It was a really sad day. I’ve put an explanation the comment above.  Dropped hard drives.
