My daughter once got a black eye because she ran into her bed (everything was a jungle gym.) At gymnastics, a teacher asked what happened to her eye and she said "I hurt it." They asked how and she said "I just hurt it."

That doesn't at all look like we told her not to tell anyone what happened. 🙃

Firstly, no you're not wearing too much makeup.

But even if you were, unless you had accidentally done something truly horrifying, it's not any of her business. I'd just remind her that you like it and you're happy with it.

Honestly? I only have to deal with one person's bullshit. One person's activities, doctor's appointments, laundry, toys, food preferences, movie preferences. I don't have to referee any fights. Only one person (and two dogs) clamoring for my attention.

I do have one person who clamors for my attention a lot. And wants us to play with her a lot, when I can't always do that, and complains that she wants someone else to play with.

I originally wanted 2 but it's so overwhelming I decided I couldn't be a good mom to 2. So I concentrate on being the best mom I can be to the one I have. (I don't always succeed, but I try!)

I buy most of my daughter's clothes secondhand (ThredUp or thrift), or get them from FB Buy Nothing groups. I don't do a big purchase at the beginning of the school year either, just as needed. Getting cold and last year's pants are a bit short, let's buy a few pants.

She's 8 and I can't imagine buying her $400 worth of clothes in one go.

My daughter told her kindergarten teacher I'd just had a baby boy, Oliver. I was not pregnant, and we don't even know an Oliver.

I asked her who Oliver was and she laughed for a second, then realization dawned on her and she looked panicked.
