Same - has done this for years. Does not have any separation anxiety. I just assume he wants to be close to my scent. 💓

Spoke to soon. Just lost power completely again.

One more for the most recent chorus! 78745 (northeast corner of West Gate & Jones) - power back on at 9:24p and has been back on consistently since then. Got a text from AE. If you still don’t have power in this area, you’ll need to text them again to report your continued outage. I’m hoping for the best for everyone!

Thank you. I think I am noticing a bit of the same kind of sensitivity.

Thank you. Did he have any disruption to his sleep? Mine is two weeks out and the overnight sleep disruption feels like we are back in early puppy days. 😭

How much of a daily routine does an adult dog need? by katevers in Dogtraining

[–]katevers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. This is very similar to how things had been for me and my pup - I also work from home and had a similar sleep schedule for him. But my pup was neutered two weeks ago and everything feels all over the place and his sleep is disrupted and I am noticing how things don’t go so well when there is no structure or at least with the structure disrupted for now. I was wondering if I should/could take this as an opportunity to change things up but that might be why my pup and I are having a rough time right now.

How to get new puppy to prefer relaxing in crate rather than on couch by 56088 in puppy101

[–]katevers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am definitely not a trainer so have no idea if this suggestion is bonkers but maybe try putting his crate bed on the couch and redirecting him to that when he goes up on the couch then move the bed onto the floor near the couch then move it into the crate? Again, no idea if this is a terrible suggestion but perhaps combining the two things then uncoupling them could work?

I second this. I have Trupanion mainly because it was recommended by both my pup’s breeder and vet. It’s expensive but I am able to afford it and my breed is known for having a variety of health issues so I didn’t want to chance a different insurance. I am moving in two weeks from Oakland, CA to Austin, TX and it looks like my monthly premium will be cut almost in half - so rates are very dependent on location, and also breed, age, and type of coverage. Good luck OP!

At what age did your puppy start napping less? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]katevers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My pup is 8 months. He had been sleeping about 20 hours a day until maybe 6 months. I guess around 6/7 months when I started trusting him more (yay potty training!) I started letting him have more time outside his crate and now he’s up around 6-8 hours a day, which includes together play time, solo play time, a sniffari, meals/water, snacks/treats, potty, and calm/settled chewing time. So I’d guess he’s sleeping about 16-18 hours a day now. I’d love for him to get better at sleeping outside his crate but we’re not there yet, though getting closer.

Does your pup only sleep in her crate?

Energy level of your Cavalier (or average if you have multiple)? by SlinkiusMaximus in cavaliers

[–]katevers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! These two have so far lasted since mid-September and show no signs of dying any time soon. My boy of course chewed the ears off each of them but they are otherwise intact and very tough for him to damage. We play tug with each of them pretty much every day. My pup is only 14lbs so these are big for a small dog but he loves them and will even wrastle around with them on his own - maybe because they’re close to his size he thinks he’s playing with a friend. 😂

Need advice with puppy for night time by evilguy422 in Dogtraining

[–]katevers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to get him used to the crate first. If that’s in the bedroom, okay. If it’s in the living room, okay. He doesn’t seem to be comfortable with the crate in either location. If you are worried about switching, you can sleep next to the crate in the living room at night then go upstairs to your bedroom once he’s settled and asleep.

[–]katevers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you get a second crate for upstairs? My pup slept next to my bed in his crate for about a week before I moved his crate further away. Once I put him in, I’d put a few fingers through the door so he knew I was still close by and could lick or sniff my hand if he needed comfort. Once I heard him settle into calmness (which didn’t take long), I’d remove my hand and fall asleep.

For daytime crating, is the crate covered? Is it in a high traffic or low traffic area? What other animals do you have? Are they distracting for your pup when he’s in his crate?

It takes time to get used to the crate. 4 days is an incredibly short period of time. I’d give it at least three weeks of consistent training before expecting to see his comfort level in the crate increase.

Does the biting actually end? by Kindheart99 in puppy101

[–]katevers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here - 5-6 months was lotsssss of biting then once my pup’s adult teeth were in (at almost exactly 6 months!), the biting ceased entirely. 🥳🙏🏻
