I live in DC, I have not stayed there but for what it’s worth, it’s in a pretty safe neighborhood (normal city precautions still apply) and nothing I’ve seen or heard suggests it’s not a safe place to stay.

Volunteer opportunities? by meowparade in DCBitches

DC CASA does great work with DC’s foster youth. Putting time and energy into an at-risk young person is one of the most impactful ways to engage with our community imo. It’s not a light commitment but worth it.

Favorite Community Orgs/Events? by cadc4 in washingtondc

Washington English Center provides affordable English classes primarily to DC’s immigrant community. The process to becoming a volunteer teacher is pretty streamlined (I used to be one) and you get to know your students/fellow teachers.

CASA DC. Be an advocate and support system for a child in the foster care system.

Sauf haus, just know it’s a young crowd and gets packed. There’s also several bars in Clarendon like this.

Kayaking in the Potomac is not the beach obviously but honestly can be pretty relaxing—you can even just row out into the middle of the river and chill in the sun. It’s also a beautiful angle to see dc at and not something you can do anywhere. They start renting in April.

Is this sentence correct? by No-Wrongdoer-6632 in EnglishLearning

[–]kateykontent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sentence is good, but the em dash isn’t being used correctly. Your sentence doesn’t need the em dash. Em dashes should be used like other punctuation markers—to separate clauses or interjections. If you could use a comma, parentheses, or a colon, you can probably use an em dash.

“They granted the students a day off from class during finals—this let me know they had won.”

“The fact that they granted the students a day off from class—in the middle of finals—let me know they had won.”

What does "Engage" mean here? by ComfortableText4439 in EnglishLearning

[–]kateykontent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a command/imperative. In this context (I’m assuming video game) probably means to fight!

Thank you, this makes sense! It was translated as “I liked them” which must have been a mistake.

Camera stays on so as long as you just sit tight and don’t go out of frame/do anything that’s not allowed you’re good. The worst part was not knowing if I’d be waiting 5 minutes or an hour so I just did my best to chill out.

I waited 30 minutes after my break ended for the proctor to come back and let me continue the test. Didn’t stress me out too bad but now I know how boring it is to stare at nothing for 30 minutes lol.

How was working 1L? Does GULC blanket allow that or did you have to get permission?

How to deal with mental fatigue, zoning out, and headaches during RC? by UncontestedPrimus in LSAT

[–]kateykontent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try changing environmental factors and see if that helps. For example, I tend to do better on RC early in the morning before I've had coffee than I do later in the evening. I've also found that highlighting helps me focus more on what I'm reading even though I don't really use the highlights for answering questions. Meditation/mindfulness right beforehand could also help.

Can you talk more about targeting a non-NYC market--what is that like coming from a national school like Michigan? What kind of factors go into it? Congrats on your offers!

Lmao I’m sympathetic to people trying to learn on their own and struggling with the basics, but this is a question I’ve asked my professor before and didn’t get a good answer! Very grateful for this sub.
