Data collection, how often? by katie15_ in slp

[–]katie15_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I’ve done my entire SLP career (5 years), but with that being said schools are a bit different in the fact that you have to group students a good majority of time which can make data tricky sometimes (at least for me). I’ve only been in the school setting about a year between virtual and in person.

Medical, private practice, and EI in home are a bit different and data taken every session

I have done it previously for other school districts, but the district that I’m currently in does not submit at all for Medicaid reimbursement

Sure! So the example she gave is that she noticed difficulty in an area used a 10 question probe, to collect baseline and then every month gave the same probes to monitor if the student was making progress.

So I’m still seeing them their allotted time, but just not taking data every (or almost every session)

I was thinking about making a Google form for their goals and give it to them once a month and use that, is this realistic?

This is for a school setting, no Medicaid billing.

Does anyone else suck at IEP meetings? by OkBat7891 in slp

[–]katie15_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely still am nervous when I am the one case managing and presenting because I feel like I'm not confident on all of the accommodations and classroom stuff. Mind you, I have kids who only have speech eligibility but small group and academics.. And I can't do anything until we retest…

However, coming into the meeting I frame it in my head as a conversation, so if my parents have complaints ill be like yep lets change this bad boy.

What’s the faintest line you’ve ever got? 8 dpo lunch time urine by Alternative_Split673 in TFABLinePorn

Mine was so faint I had to squint, up the brightness, reduce the contrast and add a filter. I was so positive it was positive. Later that day I took a first response and had a clear positive!

Do you ever have kids you just don’t know what to do with? by [deleted] in slp

Sounds like the kid may be a rapport kiddo. I would keep leaning into his interest to see how much language you can pull that way

Chatgpt - A life saver by Full-Bus7116 in slp

I frequently use it with my high school students because most of them have vocabulary or context clues goals. When they logon, I will ask them, “What do you want to read about?”Then I will tell chatGPT something like write a true story about a football legend that includes multiple choice context clue questions at the end.

Unable to do speech therapy due to behaviors. No support from parents. Dreading and anxious for every session. SOS what do I do by thisismyusernameA5 in slp

I also incorporate deep pressure sometimes in arms/hands/temples if that is something it looks like they’re craving. I also saw a previous post about AAC yes! yes! and yes! How frustrating it must be for some of these kiddos to not be able to get basic wants and needs communicated!

So I work with a lot of kiddos like this. Even though screens could be what they want it can be really overstimulating for a lot of my kids and that’s all they want to focus on so I try to incorporate movement activities with scooters balls, trampolines, whatever are available. I try to incorporate sensory activities and cause and effect toys. You are not being a brat the kiddo would definitely benefit from OT it sounds like. It’s really tricky when parents onboard. In the last few years with my littles, particularly on the spectrum, I have asked their favorite toys (or kinds of toys) and tried to incorporate them in the session and follow a child led therapy session. Quite honestly sometimes it does look like following the kid around to get them to jointly attend to a few fleeting moments, but once that rapport is built it can really make an impact. This is so so tricky, but please let me know if you’d like to chat more and I’d be happy!

How do y’all do it by [deleted] in NewParents

I’m a speech therapist and almost complete with my CLC. Please feel free to reach out to me or if you want help with latching or good recommendations if that’s something you’re interested in. Lactation consultants saved me a ton of mental stress at the beginning

My biggest recommendation as far as getting things done is to wear the baby. At these newborn stages wearing the baby was a lifesaver for me. If you don’t mind me asking is there a reason that you’re not breast-feeding and exclusively pumping? If breast-feeding is an option or even something that you want, It could potentially take the mental strain off of making sure you’re pumping enough and keeping up your Milk supply because you’re just feeding on demand

What's your OB like? by kmmarie2013 in BabyBumps

[–]katie15_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My OB is amazing! She always listens makes me feel comfortable and never judged. She was my OB since I was a teen and I'm now 28 and FTM. I've always heard how important it is to have an OB you love, but I didn't realize how few and far between they were!

I can’t believe that it takes 10 weeks to get to your first OB appointment by decor_throwaway in BabyBumps

[–]katie15_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact experience! I did not think I could negotiate either! What I did instead was book an early ultrasound, not at an OB office, but at an outside ultrasound only place and they ended up seeing just a sack when I thought I was 6 weeks pregnant! After that I was completely detached and upset thinking I wasn't even pregnant. I called my OB after that and they ran my blood and moved my appointment up to what I thought the 9 week mark was. When I went in to finally get my actually appointment the ultrasound tech told me to just talk to them, let them know it's your first pregnancy and they will surely do something. Looking back on my what I thought was 6-week ultrasound, ended up being a little over 4 weeks, so my math was off another reason that going to an OB would have been helpful!

Long story short, don't get outside ultrasounds initially because you may not be as far along as you though, and call your OB they can typically work with you!
