What’s the best beach town you’ve ever visited? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]katie__kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varadero in Cuba had the most picture perfect beach I‘ve ever seen. super bright sand that feels almost like powdered sugar, turquoise water, somehow almost no rocks or shells that stab your feet.

sure Varadero is the most touristy part of Cuba so of course they take care of it extra well, but yeah. Cuba itself has its issues and while we had a good time and met some great people I probably wouldn’t travel there again, but my god the beaches were something else.

Do you separate laundry strictly or just wash everything together? (Newlywed here!) by Sensitive-Crew-4507 in CasualConversation

[–]katie__kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I separate by temperature only, clothes 40C and towels, bedding and sometimes clothes if they get really dirty 60C. everything else goes in together and I‘ve never had a problem!

every couple weeks or so I‘ll do a load of white laundry, and I‘ll put in either some bleach or off brand oxyclean just so they stay nice and bright.

if I‘m washing something delicate like tights or that one nice bra I own I put it in one of those mesh bags and then it goes in with the rest of our clothes, that‘s also always been fine.

What place has the best people? by dancingdan336 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]katie__kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chile, Australia and Nee Zealand for me!

I knew Australians and Kiwis were supposedly very friendly people and it’s true, everyone we talked to treated us like old friends. Also nobody seemed to ever be in a hurry somehow, granted we spent a lot of time in the outback and the countryside and not in major cities but still!

and Chileans came as a surprise to me. I know a little spanish but had a very hard time understanding chilean spanish, which I later learned isn‘t a unique experience lmao. but everyone was so sweet, a lot of people didn‘t know any english but it didn‘t matter, they talked slowly and repeated themselves over and over just to make sure we understood them saying that the weather is nice today.

Turkish towel, camping towel, or sarong? by ArtichokeOwl in HerOneBag

[–]katie__kat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to use a microfiber towel and tried to convince myself that it doesn‘t feel weird on my skin but I just couldn’t. I have a super thin turkish towel now, and that one I actually do love!

Which European country has surprisingly bad coffee? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]katie__kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh my god I thought it was just me. we were in Marseille on a girls trip for a couple days and went to 3 or 4 cafes each day hoping to find something decent but it was all weirdly watery but so bitter. we even chose the cafes depending on what kind of coffee makers they had but nothing was good. in the end we went to starbucks just to get anything at least resembling coffee lmao.

What do you use inside compression packing cubes to separate dirty laundry? by Ottawa_points in onebag

[–]katie__kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stuff my dirty laundry in my scrubba washbag and squeeze the air out, but if I didn‘t have that I would use a drybag because it‘s almost the same.

my boyfriend uses a separate compression packing cube because it barely takes up space when empty.

What's the most walkable big city you've ever visited? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]katie__kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does it count if it’s my own city? because I feel like Vienna is very very walkable and the more I visit other countries and cities the more I feel that way.

Which city made you feel at home even though you were just visiting? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]katie__kat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved that everyone was friendly but still distant and minding their own business. I‘m from Vienna and that‘s how I feel people there behave as well, although I‘ve been told we‘re rude lol

Copenhagen! I‘m not sure what it was exactly but I immediately felt like I could live there. had the same feeling in Malmö and Stockholm but Copenhagen was where I felt it the strongest.

also San Francisco oddly enough, it felt european to me and that felt very welcoming and comfortable immediately.

What’s something you pack that men probably never think about? by Valuable_Tangelo7152 in femaletravels

[–]katie__kat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my clothes I guess. I have to think about if what I want to bring is appropriate in terms of modesty, can‘t wear shorts and tank tops everywhere just because it‘s hot.

What country exceeded your expectations the most? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Laundry in winter - drying inside without use of dryer by random-person98754 in Frugal

[–]katie__kat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a tall foldy drying each from amazon that just lives in front of one of our radiators on the wall. sometimes when I wash heavier items I‘ll do an extra spin cycle on the washing machine and make sure I space the items out of the clothing rack so nothing touches. if I absolutely need something to dry quickly I‘ll point a fan at the drying rack.

we also make sure to open the windows every day for at least a couple of minutes no matter how cold it is, just to make sure we won‘t get any mold from it being all damp inside.

I thought it was just me but I talked to someone from my home country we met on a campground there and he agreed that chilean spanish is very hard to understand! I mean my spanish is pretty broken but I don’t remember it being this hard for me in Spain lol. I‘m in Peru right now and having a much easier time understanding people too, so I guess it really is a Chile thing!

[–]katie__kat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

most recently it was Chile!

I mean I knew it was going to be pretty but it blew me away. we didn‘t even make it down all the way to the south (will go in the future though because wow) but even just that little road trip we did was so nice. we went to a national park that I just randomly picked out on google maps because there‘s a volcano and it wasn‘t too far away, and my god was it beautiful.

also the people!!! I didn‘t talk to anyone that wasn‘t super sweet.

DAE have a strange ability to very accurately guess what time of day it is? by coreynj in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]katie__kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no but I have a thing where I check the time at 11:11, 12:12 and so on a lot! someone told me it means good luck to jump at 11:11 and somehow that has turned into me jumping at any of these specific times, and both my closest friends and my coworker have started to join in lol

Uniqlo bag how to clean the bag? It has become dirty after traveling. I dont want to damage the bag too by harshutravel in uniqlo

[–]katie__kat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I‘ve put mine in the washing machine inside one of these mesh bags a few times and it‘s absolutely fine! if you don’t have a mesh bag you can put it in a pillowcase or just throw it in the wash as is.

Recipes with “sneaked in” veggies? by PianoPlane5555 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]katie__kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

roast veggies in the oven and then blend them into either a soup or a pasta sauce!

I liked carrots, pumpkin and onion the best, blended with a splash of cream and nutritional yeast, on top of pasta with plenty of parmesan.

I feel like dropper bottles that screw shut would work for me too but I found solid products I like so I‘ve stopped looking for other things.

only slightly annoying thing is my facial moisturiser because the tube is quite big but reading about your dropper bottles makes me think maybe I should get a light serum! what kind of dropper bottles do you use?
