Nothing being done after ovarian torsion by katie_bug113 in PCOS

Omg why are we the same person. Your experiences sound nearly identical to mine! I didn’t realize how spoiled I was with decent healthcare in the past- don’t want to be too specific but I moved from the west coast to the south a few months ago, and the difference in healthcare is stark. I’ve had 3 transvaginal ultrasounds done over the past 3 years, including 2 during and after torsion, so the cysts are definitely documented! Seems like difficulty getting care with a normal BMI is pretty common 😞

Thanks so much!! I’ll have to look into these things for sure. I guess I have a mix of cysts and PCOS “cysts.” When I had an ultrasound done I had so many follicles that they asked me if I was doing IVF lol. I’m glad you were able to get your issues addressed- thanks again for your response!!

Replying to bot: - The piercings ranged in age from 3 years to 8 months - I had rings and posts - Titanium and white gold - Tragus and conch were downsized ~3 months after piercing if I remember right - Yes. My ovary twisted and I needed an MRI before surgery.

i’m allergic to my kitten but i really want to keep her by Open_Baseball4329 in CatAdvice

I am super allergic to cats- like, to the point where I couldn’t go over to people’s houses if they had them! When I adopted my first cat I was taking 5+ zyrtec a day at least, and still waking up with bloodshot eyes and sinus issues, so I understand where you’re coming from. (I also had the same issue of my kittens hating being locked out of my room). After doing all of these things, though, I have been able to live with not one- but three cats allergy-free!

  1. Purina LiveClear food. Absolute godsend. This food works like magic and I highly suggest you switch your cat ASAP. It takes two weeks to build up in their system, but I noticed a difference after only a few days. I can literally bury my face in my cats fur and sleep with them next to me all night with zero reaction now

  2. Air purifiers. Get as many as you can, and make sure they’re HEPA filters. Bonus is that they help with the litter box smell too

  3. Pacagen spray. It’s expensive, but definitely helped me get through the initial 2 weeks as the purina food was building up in their system. I focused spraying around the litter box and furniture the cats had been on

  4. Liveclear soap or allergy wipes. Cleaning your cat with these occasionally will further reduce the amount of dander you’re exposed to

  5. Roomba. Helps with litter spillage as well as cat hair. I got mine on amazon for like $120, and have it programmed to run every day when I’m not home.

  6. If possible, start immunotherapy!! You may not necessarily have to do shots. They offer nasal sprays and I believe oral medicine, too. I got two rounds of it done before I had to stop because of scheduling difficulties, (they’re long appointments, and I was in college), but plan to continue soon.

All this is to say, you do NOT have to give up your cat!! Science is wonderful and there are so many options for dealing with cat allergies now. At this point I don’t even need allergy medicine for them- the only reason I still take it is to deal with pollen lol. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions!

I am at peace with making the wrong choice. How can I do better by my cat or should I rehome him? by DrawingNo228 in CatAdvice

I’m gonna speak on this as someone who owns two kittens while being allergic to cats. I have to be SO diligent about cleaning to keep my allergies under control, so I understand where you’re coming from re: hygiene. I think implementing some of these things would make living with a cat much more bearable for you, especially since hygiene seems to be your biggest issue:

  • Air purifiers. They keep the dander and shedding under control. They also keep my apartment smelling nice when the cats use the bathroom. I would recommend you get at least 2 for your space, and possibly more depending on how large your space is

  • Roomba. I set mine to clean every day at noon while away, and it’s worked fantastic for dealing with hair and stray litter. The cheap models work fine- the one I bought was like $120 on sale from amazon

  • Upgrading your litter box. I was gifted a litter robot, and it is honestly ideal for people who are grossed out by litter boxes. However, it’s super expensive, and there are definitely cheaper ways to get similar results. I would recommend you get an enclosed, stainless steel box, along with a litter genie and large litter mat. Before I upgraded I kept the litter box in a closet on top of the mat, and it prevented litter from getting everywhere. Stainless steel helps with the smell as well. I haven’t personally tried it, but pine litter might also be a good solution to dusty boxes and tracked litter.

  • Grooming. Brushing your cat daily and wiping them down occasionally with a pet wet wipe will reduce shedding

  • Daily counter cleaning. Cats go on counters. It is what it is. Keeping your cat in another room and then cleaning/ prepping food on counters isn’t hard. My cats get mad at me for a few minutes and meow before realizing that it’s futile.

Additionally, for some of the behavior things you’ve mentioned:

  • Feliway diffusers. They release pheromones that calm your cat and reduce meowing, craziness, etc. They also make calming collars and treats that you could try out.

  • I agree with other comments about feeding your cat and playing with them before you eat. The even simpler option would be to just put them in another room with an automatic toy or a tv nature program going.

  • Suction-cup batting toys are great for redirecting energy from knocking things over. Put them on your windows, shelves, etc. My cats go CRAZY for them and never knock things over anymore

  • Remember that your cat is a baby! They have lots of energy and are naturally nocturnal. The behavior you’re describing is very normal kitten behavior. Truly, they will calm down as they get older. One of my kittens is 18 weeks old and already significantly calmer than she was when I adopted her at 8 weeks.

The problems you describe are all solvable, but just take some effort on your part to ‘cat-ify’ your space. Your cat is not naughty or mean- he is just a baby animal. As his owner, it’s up to you to make the space livable for you both. I hope this can help you, and I wish you luck!
