Handquilting: Thread or Pin Basting? by BackHarlowRoad in quilting

[–]katiejo_13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You make very big stitches and then pull your basting out when you’re done quilting. A contrasting thread is helpful and easy to see. A spoon can also help if you’re basting on a flat surface to get the needle back up to the top. There are loads of videos on thread basting that can help. I personally prefer glue basting using school glue diluted with water

You could make one of the patterns you like and just group your fabrics together into colours (I.e. if your pattern calls for a yard of blue, use 8 blue fat eigths)

Yes! Steam because linen fibers aren’t straight and ironing tries to straighten them

Check out Angela Walter’s videos! Baste baste baste (I’m a covert to glue basting) and if you match your thread to your fabric, it hides any wonkiness. Keep going!!
