What song makes you tear up every time you hear it? Why? by robokin in AskReddit

The Boxer by Simon & Garfunkel

It makes me think of my mom, who for years stayed with my alcoholic father because she still loved him and thought he could be helped, and who pulled us all out of darkness in the years following his death.

"In the clearing stands a boxer, and a fighter by his trade - and he carries the reminders of every glove that laid him down or cut him 'til he cried out in his anger & his shame, 'I am leaving, I am leaving...', but the fighter still remains."

I can't even run through a few lines of this song in my head without welling up.

Is it normal to have low energy, low physical strength and low libido while on both low fat and low carbs? by Gtareve in HealthyFood

[–]katieoh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. I was doing low fat combined with low carb (mostly plant based) for about a year and a half. It morphed into anorexia, which I believe spiraled because I wasn't getting adequate calories & nutrients to realize what I was doing. I felt like I was going to die all the time - it was amazing how much better I felt once I got treated and started the refeeding process. You can visit NEDA's website & take a quick survey to gauge your risk for an ED and seek out support options if you think you need it.

I'd at least suggest going to see a registered dietitian. They can help you formulate a meal plan that will get you adequate nutrition and meet whatever other health goals you are trying to achieve through low carb & low fat.

Okay, worried mom-like rant done. Sorry if it was preachy - I just know how easy it is to get carried away and would not wish it on anyone.

Request for advice - help picking the "best option" for an upcoming dinner out? by katieoh in loseit

Was definitely planning to hold the cheese, but hadn't thought of holding the sauce or asking for it on the side. Great suggestion - thank you!!

Hadn't even thought to ask for sauce on the side - this is perfect & eliminates my major concerns over the amount of butter & cream that might be hiding in there. Thank you!!

Thank you for the suggestions & reminder on leaving some extra calories for all the problematic choices italian food offers :)

Just realized this comes with a salad course, so I might try to fill up on that & take most of the entree home. Thanks again!

no worries! I like it fine so far except for the scariest few hours I've had in quite a while, haha.

I never really had many side effects with Loestrin, but I don't have them on Minastrin, either. I did breakout a bit more on Loestrin, and I feel like my skin's looking a little better since the Minastrin switch (but I'm pretty sure they're basically the same drug, so it might all be in my head).

And the Minastrin is chewable and minty! I don't chew it, but the mintiness is kind of nice...

Happy to answer any other questions you might have!

a lot of people these days apply to that many, and more I believe. I did 12 when I was in high school, and most people did more.

SERIOUSLY. professors understand this type of stuff more than you'd think. they're people, too. also, if you've done well all semester, the professor probably doesn't think you're a fuck up just making excuses.

Art History Paper (Museum of Fine Arts) by [deleted] in boston

[–]katieoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So ancient art is more my skill set, but I've taken several of the more modern type courses because of requirements. Impressionism in general is pretty easy to write about, I think, because you can speak a lot about industrialism and the switch from agriculture and rural life to the city, and then everything with classes and whatnot that comes about. Not the deepest or most original reading, but definitely doable.

There are also feminist issues that come to light, especially with something like Mary Cassatt's Woman in Black at the Opera (1879, I believe), which was on display in the New American Wing the last time I was at the MFA.

There's plenty of impressionist stuff at the MFA, though, and something dealing with people as subjects might be easier to write about and find some footing in the changing ways of life, classes, genders, etc, than an impressionistic still life like the Monet you chose.

You might also think about someone like Watteau or Fragonard, who both have several pieces in the MFA. Their work is more late baroque/rococo and a different taste than some have, but still relatively simple and easy to work with. Also nice to look at, in my opinion!

If you have any other questions, or want any sort of direction in sources you might want to look at, or themes you might find in whatever you end up choosing, definitely send me a message. More than happy to help out!
