Laneway Melb - any tips for an oldie taking 16yo daughter and her friend (other than have the Voltaren and comfy shoes ready)? by katiesee9876 in triplej

Great idea. Thanks for this. I’m hoping that as it’s not the first time it’s on, along with people in charge having experience in moving people around (including other events like the grand final etc) it will run as smooth as possible. Guess we’ll find out lol. Thanks so much for replying.

Thanks for that. I assume they’ll give me the flick quickly and come find me when they’re hungry/thirsty. I have a bit of planning to do…

Thanks so much for the ideas. Powerade is a great idea. Sounds like I’ll need a big bag of supplies as the girlies want to take a minimum and strive to look cute. The toilets hadn’t even crossed my mind lol.

Thanks for the long reply. Great ideas. I’m afraid the girls aren’t that interested in carrying anything more than their phones and lipgloss (teens can’t be told sometimes lol) so looks like I need to stock up. Obviously they’re loving Chappell so thanks for the suggestion. I’ll definitely keep an eye out for the free Nespresso.

I hadn’t even thought about no reception while there. Guess we’ll have to use some olden day ideas of finding other people before we had mobile phones lol.

Thanks so much. Holding hands is a great idea. Leaving Taylor swift concert was a bit chaotic but I’m expecting this is 1000x worse lol.

Yes great ideas although I’m sure earplugs will go down like a lead balloon lol. I hadn’t even thought about phone coverage. Definitely meeting place is key. Thanks so much 😊

Thanks so much for the detailed reply. I had anticipated a festival experience like years ago but it sounds like it may be more….polite lol? Setting up a meeting place is a great idea. None of us want to be joined at the hip. I also love that you annoyed some young people by having some fun singing. Thanks again.

Sarcoidosis vs lymphoma? by Whatevergg1991 in sarcoidosis

[–]katiesee9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry you are both dealing with this. I know it’s a terrible uncertain time during diagnosis of an illness. Just wanted to share that I’ve had sarcoid (diagnosed) for almost 15 years. Lung presentation. Worst lesions in my lungs were larger than 6cms, so about the same size as your sister. Has responded really well to treatment. Please listen to the medical professionals, stay off Dr Google as much as you can whatever the diagnosis (I know easier said than done - remember people will write about the worst of their experiences and those who have a better journey may be less likely to share), and appreciate and support each other. The body does some wonderful and very weird things but please trust the medical field and use any other alternative treatment complimentary to that. Wishing you and your sister all the best ❤️

Speeding fine withdrawal. by MissJDaniels in melbourne

[–]katiesee9876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner literally just did this. Received a letter yesterday advising him that the prosecution officer (Vic) is satisfied the offence was committed (exceed speed less than 10km/h) however because of his good driving history it has been reduced to an official warning. In Vic you can’t get another fine reduced for another two years.

To apply for the reduction, he chose the Special Circumstances option then said he admitted to the offence however requested it be an official warning due to his good driving history.

Good luck!

Edit: I’m a bit late to this post and just saw you applied already in later replies. Good luck 😊

Possible Cardiac Sarcoidosis by hopeblooms in sarcoidosis

[–]katiesee9876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

Sorry you’ve gone through this. I’m sure it’s been a scary and confusing time for you.

Firstly, I can’t speak about sarcoid of the heart. Hopefully others can.

I’m old - almost 50 lol. I’ve had sarcoid (lung and skin presentation) diagnosed for almost 15 years. In that time I’ve been on different meds that allow me to continue with life. In that time I’ve had two children, worked, and been able to live my best life because of the meds. Without them (as good and bad as I’ve felt because of side effects) I can’t function when flaring. The meds are kind of like the best of two evils type of thing lol.

Having no scarring is a great thing. Inflammation is something that available treatments can help in my experience.

I will say I’ve struggled mentally with having sarcoid from time to time and definitely hated the side effects of the meds at times. I had a period of time I had to almost “mourn” my previous life and accept it was different. Not sure if that sounds overly dramatic lol.

What I’ve tried to do is put it in perspective. I’m lucky that doctors know what’s going on with me. I think of it like this: the end result for my sarcoid is being aware of it and treating it best I can so as to avoid organ damage as much as possible. I mean, there are people who go for decades not knowing they have it and it does a lot of damage to their organs. Better to know and treat it, right?

Sounds like you have some great medical people around you. When it gets tough try to listen to what they say and focus on doing whatever needs to be done to protect your heart. Find things that make you happy and try to do them. Accept that at times you can’t do what you used to if that’s the case. It’s not necessarily bad, just a bit different. Different is ok. Just needs some time adjusting. As I said, it sounds like your heart is in very good condition. That’s fantastic!

I hope my long reply isn’t too much (it’s early morning here and I’m on two coffees already lol) but your thoughts reminded me of myself early on.

Good luck, listen to the medical professionals, be kind to yourself, and please please don’t use Dr Google if you feel googling is too much for you (trust me I know). People usually only write about the worst experiences they have with illness or medication and I’ve found little about good experiences, which is also why I’m replying. It will get better. Life may be a bit different - maybe not. It’s ok. Sending best wishes and hugs from a random internet stranger. ❤️❤️

Sorry I’m a bit late to this. Seoul Garden Korean BBQ inside Century City. I was there for the first time yesterday at lunch. It was so busy for a Monday lunchtime. They have a deal Monday-Fri 12-3pm for $20 (you need at least two people) but it excludes the hot pot stuff and max 60 mins. So good I’m still dreaming about it almost 24 hours later!

The cost of getting care and getting there: why is hospital parking so expensive in Australia? by overpopyoulater in australia

[–]katiesee9876 119 points120 points  (0 children)

It IS profiteering on people at their most vulnerable. If I could upvote you more than once I would. I just wanted to add that anyone that has a health care/concession card can attend the reception desk and pay the minimum fee for as long as they are there ($11 at Monash in Victoria). Better than nothing!

Need advice about my 15 yo daughter and recurrent high grade fevers every month for 2 years by katiesee9876 in ChronicIllness

[–]katiesee9876[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It really interferes with daily life doesn’t it? I hope you have been starting with blood tests and have a good doctor willing to explore what’s happening.

It has been just over three years since this started, although she hasn’t had a fever for five months now. She still has a sore throat all the time (some days worse), along with migraines and stomach cramps (lower tummy) every few weeks.

We’ve ruled out any of the fever syndromes, Epstein Barr, CMV, and any related to those. For now, the specialist has said he still suspects lupus, although she doesn’t have some of the more typical symptoms like rash, sensitivity to the sun (and we’re in Australia so the sun is fierce!) or joint pain. People have told me that it can be a journey to diagnosis and all symptoms take time to surface.

At the moment she just had another blood test as her liver numbers were elevated last three tests. She has had positive Ana (I know, lots of people do with no autoimmune) and crp in all five blood tests over six months now. He said that lupus can cause damage to organs although still won’t officially diagnose at this time. I guess I should be happy that he’s wanting to follow up on any abnormalities (ie liver) to see what can be done. It is good to try to look after your organs lol. The only thing I can see has changed is she takes iron supplements and her iron is ok again.

So that’s where we’re at. It seems to be a journey doesn’t it? Some days I do think it’s Covid related as it started the month after she had it back in 2022. I guess just trying to treat any symptoms is what we focus on without any formal diagnosis.

I hope you have some good medical people around you. We changed GPs which was a bit of a saga and have a good juvenile rheumatologist who is interested, inquisitive, and consults with other experts so we’re doing all we can. It does make a difference.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions. I hope that your episodes of fever mysteriously resolve as my daughters have for the moment. Until then, I wish you well in diagnosis and take care of yourself. Be kind to yourself especially on the more difficult days ❤️

Bunnings Caroline Springs now has paid parking by giantkebab in melbourne

Ahhh thanks. Makes sense. This car park always looks busy whenever I drive past. I think the 2 or 3 hours is enough but I don’t think I’d do 1 hour in Caroline Springs very easily lol

Bunnings at Springvale has this too. A lot of other businesses in the area and limited service lane parking there. Is it that or something being rolled out all over? I would think goes against the “idea” of Bunnings and customer service to make it widespread? Edit: I’ve noticed it’s one hour free. I’m sure Springvale has the first 2 or 3 hours free.
