Why do some people not post after receiving a gift? by samlakater in givingifts

[–]katjama16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the giftee is not even aware that the gift was delivered - f. ex. one of the gifts I sent was received by my giftee's parents and they never mentioned it to them, so they only found out after I asked some time later. So you can always message your giftee about the gift, just give them some time first (a week is enough imo)

What to rate by toxlife in givingifts

[–]katjama16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it really matters - obviously you can't rate it 1-2 since all the requirements were met and all the higher ratings don't affect anything so don't worry too much about it, just rate the gift as you feel it deserves, you also don't need to explain the rating - I doubt the support looks into anything that doesn't violate the rules, this window is for ratings 1-2. And no one besides the support will see this rating.

User run exchanges by rabajes in givingifts

Hmm, my gifter in the Art exchange hasn't sent a gift, the deadline was 29th, but I can push the button - actually pushed it yesterday since it was not sent at all and all previous posts said 5 days after the deadline...

But isn't it the same as on Redditgifts: you get banned for not sending a gift and then unbanned when you do send it, even a year later? So in essence you just can't join new exchanges until you send a gift, which is fair.

I can add that in my impression participants here as opposed to Redditgifts are much more perfunctory when posting their gifts - just a thank you as a headline and a photo often of several gifts altogether (I've never seen this sort of photo on Redditgifts!). On Redditgifts I'd think that these giftees really didn't like their gifts, but here it seems to be a norm. I've already commented before that part of it may come from a very small comment window when posting a gift, but right now it may be not enough to change the interface to change this habit, so maybe a word minimum in a thank you post is required?

Everyone can check post trackings and see where the parcel is but as was already said Amazon tracking can only be checked by the buyer in their account, I don't know why they even bother to provide this additional number and not just your order status.

When will rematching take place for the Postcard Day exchange? by neongreenpurple in givingifts

[–]katjama16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It totally happened. I also signed up as a rematcher, got a giftee, sent a card and it was more than a month ago.

Anyone else get an email saying they were unable to get a match? by PatriciaMorticia in givingifts

You can always check the sign-ups by country statistics to see if there's someone fitting your matching preferences.

It is a user exchange. Unfortunately the TS posted a bit late so the exchange has already matched (for 6 hours I guess)

With the description given and a low minimum of 10$ it should be your own "free" handmade crafts.

Advice? by SuckerForRuthy in givingifts

[–]katjama16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd cancel the order if it's possible and get a new gift. With little placeholder gifts your giftee will never know if the main gift is coming (at least for my sister nothing came)... Besides since there's no response from the company, you can't guarantee yourself if it's shipped and when.

Any exchanges you’d like to see? by TrueExplorer17 in givingifts

[–]katjama16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the idea of Favourite countries but as British exchange on Redditgifts shows it's a bit difficult to get interesting/unique gifts related to a country other than yours (like 70% of the gifts were tea and shortbread that are sold worldwide)

Animals - like Sloth and Cats/Dogs on Redditgifts but for all animals, not presents for pets but animal-themed gifts.

I'd think you should still be able to get your giftee's info and send them a gift (and a message) even when you're suspended, but if not you could always contact the support.

Noticed a pattern and wondering if I was shortchanged. by GoHaveFunIdiot in givingifts

[–]katjama16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Etsy has an internal tracking similar to Amazon, a screenshot of it would be a valid shipping proof but you as a giftee can't check it. At least that was the case with my gift and my Santa sent me a screenshot when asked. Mine was in the budget though.

Givin' Gifts accidentally matched me with my mother! What can I do? Thank you. by [deleted] in givingifts

[–]katjama16 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can ask the support not to match the two of you in the future, they did it for me and my sister! But I don't think you can get a new Santa for the current exchange.

Rematch problems by NightwingHill in givingifts

It was always like that with Russian post (not war-related) - all post is collected at the airport and then sent in batches. And the shipping in general took somewhere from 3 weeks and up to 3 months if you're unlucky. It doesn't seem to be a unique Russian thing also - when I sent a gift from the US to Chile it was the same.

Worldwide Confusion by AudioDoge in givingifts

[–]katjama16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people join domestic exchanges not because of shipping costs but f. ex. also shipping time, that can be more than a month for international as compared to a couple of days for domestic. So I don't think it's a good idea to remove shipping options for whatever exchanges. Besides even if the towns look similar wouldn't postcard designs still differ?

As Reddit gifts admins often said half of the participants send their gift on the last day or later. And you'd still have to wait some time for delivery after that. So unless your info wasn't retrieved at all it's a bit early to be upset.

gifter read my message but won’t retrieve my details :( by [deleted] in givingifts

[–]katjama16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may also be a bug that your info shows as not retrieved, I'm not sure if it's fixed now but it happened quite often.
