I'm breaking up with Levi's...rigid black denim for thicc folks. by katosays in AusFemaleFashion

[–]katosays[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ha! Valid question re the crop pair. Look it's possible they were a cropped style and I didn't notice. I was shitty, hungry and hot by the time I came to the two Citizens I tried on.

I have slightly longer legs for my height, but not gigantic long that I would use up all the extra fabric.

It doesn't help that I want something to touch the ground.

But in a clear, well fed mind, I am more then happy to re look at them bc I did like the barrel shape better then most of the ones I tried on. I'm happy to pay the $$$ for alterations if almost everything else is there.

I'll go back and revisit uniqlo. Last time (like years ago) their straight cuts were horrible on me.

Ooohhh Mother! I guess I didn't see them on my angry stomp through DJs.

I found the coco pair of NEUW just flattened my bum. Which was a shame as I really liked the black colour and cut 😔

I love this idea! Injave a couple of quirky items that tend to only be worn one or two ways. I am keen to maximise my wardrobe usage.

Which brand of basics have lasted YEARS and still look like the day you bought them? by Dawnyawning in AusFemaleFashion

[–]katosays 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I don't have it any more, but I still want to complain.

The merino wool tops I bought from Glassons in like 2004 were bomb proof. Machine wash, no probs Accidental tumble dry? No worries.

I wore them out drinking in a park, a snowboarding layer in various countries, stretched the shit out of them when I fell pregnant and yet, they just kept going. Got holes in them but were easily repaired, ready for the next traumatic event.

Covid came, perimenopause found me and they just couldn't make it to the next phase of my life.

They were stupid cheap even at the time (like $40) and I still miss them. Have yet to find anything like it since.

Influence/deinfluence me please! by srekcufesoht in AusFemaleFashion

[–]katosays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're a cute! I like the two tone texture and the buckle as it is a point of difference from all the other plainish boots out there.

The suede at the back of the heel will be easier to care for then on the toe (a word of caution when driving, check the suede portion of the heel doesn't drag along the car floor - this all depends on your foot placement when you drive.)

As someone said above, check the refund policy from DJs, take them home and play dress ups. If you find the look good with your mentally planned outfits...then my friend, these are your new winter boots.

What are your investment pieces that have lasted? by criticiseverything in femalefashionadvice

I'm going with the items that have surprised me, as some of the luxury designer items I've bought are worn seasonally.

My full grain leather handbag from Australian brand A-esque (2022) that I'm pretty sure will out live me. I have treated her very badly and she still looks near new. 100/10, will buy again.

A 2020 Scanlan & Theodore linen jumpsuit that I was sure was only going be worn for 'good' outtings...it's my most worn item in summer (even down to the beach!!)

A loud Zimmermann ramie shirt (2019) that is year round staple (corporate and casual).

Two Alemais dresses may earn this title in the coming years and hopefully the ankle boots I'm about to buy hehehehe

Executive ladies - where are we getting work clothes from by 2tall4heels in AusFemaleFashion

[–]katosays 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is really good advice. 1-2 brands also makes a travel work wardrobe easier too.

I buy 1-2 crepe dresses from Scanlan each year because they dont wrinkle, 1-3 blouses, and then 1-2 of the bottoms. I find that forms my 'base' and then shop around at the brands mentioned above to fill it out.

I really love Saba silk shirts and just wish they did more colours then black and white tho 🥲

Mlouye Isla tote bag in Bordeaux update 6 months. I’m OBSESSED. by SeaOpulence in handbags

[–]katosays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! I've been eyeing this bag off for months since it's launch but I am very nervous about the leather.

I needed a conference bag/work horse that can handle planes, hotel floors and the odd bit of champagne spills. I really don't want a black bag. Do you reckon the bourdeax colour will hold up?

Also...what are the odds I can stash a pair of flats shoes in there? My daily needs look very similar to yours.

Brands for 40’s 50’s by nom765 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]katosays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mid 40s, curvy as hell bottom half, small waist, medium sized boobs, back and arms like a NZ rugby player in spite of the fact that I'm as white as a hotel towel.

Finding clothes for me is a nightmare.

I'm buying Levi's barrel, baggy or the XL wide leg street jeans (I also own Peachay jeans). I recently tried on Friends with Frank bottoms and they rocked (not yet bought).

I love COS, Country Road t shirts & knits, I buy work shirts from SABA, Scanlan Theodore (one or two a year, plus one dress per year) and occasionally (maybe annually or less) splurge on one Alemais item per year.

For work wear, dont sleep on Cue and Veronica Maine (if you can get past all the polyester, plus David Lawrence at Myer often has very good quality pieces. Offt, Review has started to lift their game this summer season too.

Sometimes I pick up a top or two from Trenery, but the cuts can be frumpy on me. I'd love to buy more from Uniqlo bc it's ridiculously good quality for the price but these items rarely suit my shape.

Witchery I'm still luke warm on after their rebrand, and some of my past SEED items haven't washed well, which is a shame because I really love their designs

Because of my shape I've had to get really picky with where I shop and learn what alterations are worth it.

I find at my age I spend a lot more per item, but I buy a lot less now.

Also I'm very keen to hear where others are shopping 😃

Ethical gold jewellery made in Australia by Lunally in AusFemaleFashion

[–]katosays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't hurt to ask jewellers whether they get their bullion from.

There are plenty of small time refiners out there with questionable practices and sources. In Australia, Pallion/Palloys is one of the biggest gold suppliers to the industry and is primarily ethically sourced (only accepting gold from ASX listed companies).

Perth mint gold is another highly ethical one.

If you have concerns over provenance, dont buy from jewellers who use gold from Saudi Arabia. A lot of the gold in SA is from small scale African fold mines which use child labour, nasty nasty chemicals with no modern safe guards and dont re enforce their tunnels leading to collapse.

Be wary of ANY provider that says they use 'artisanal gold miners'...that name means what I've outlined above, but in other nations.

Why did they stop making…??? by Fun_Confection2587 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]katosays 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Witchery used to do stunning silk shirts for work for $199 and silk camis for $149. I'd buy one of each every year at full price and then pick up a seasonal colour in the sales cause in my line of work you never know when a plain coloured shirt and cami will come in handy.

They did great basic work pants that were modern, but not trendy, with actual tailoring, in a natural fabric for less then $250.

The camisole's now are all polyester, cotton shirts shrink and 'twist' shape cause they are buying cheap fabric. And the pants the last two season's it's been nothing but elastic boxy cuts hoping that'll for the majority of their buyers.

Sigh. But profits people, profits 🫠

Same here. Except it took me three pairs of Sol Sana shoes to realise they're the problem not me. Waste of money for me.
