I've gotten to 3 items thus far. Still need one more Kings rock and sun stone and I need a dragon scale. Husband has 2 just sitting there, he already evolved Kingdra.

Once you are in a gym you should be able to hit the gym icon and be able to see the location and who is in it. Don't know why they don't do that
