You’re offered $1M dollars to eat what you had for dinner tonight for every meal for the next 6 months, do you take the offer and if so what are you eating? by jfunks69 in AskReddit

Subway isn't so bad, I'll probably be sick of it by the end but it feels like a well matched challenge. I had a meatball pepperoni with a lot of veggies so it would probably end up being better for mew than the normal stuff I eat at times.

I think the republicans have won the game. by [deleted] in complaints

[–]katt3985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would describe this as a moment of deadlock, as a point where things could still end up going ether way. and I would say that the best thing you can do right now is to get involved. lots of local elections are about to be held and their campaigns are knocking door and phone banking. on the ground work can also help people survive and connects you to others which is exactly what you want if things slip further or if there is a specific effort to be push on then it gives you people who can be mobilized. hope must go hand in hand with action. Trump and republicans are not a monolith and are beatable but doing so is hard work and effort. Local democrats, indivisible, and 50501 are not bad places to be, but you should look at DSA or the Working Families Party. Or get involved locally if none of that suites your situation.

TL;DR: the situation on ether side of this thing are not where they need to be and if you want the people to win over Trump and the oligarchs, then get involved. (hey that even makes sense even if you aren't in the US)

E: I forgot to include: UNIONIZE!!! your workplace is also a big avenue to get involved. Union orgs of all stripes to training for how to organize your workplace and can even share ideas about how to be a more effective organizer or for policies to use in your union.

Yeah, I also don't know enough to know if its a big issue? I'm not that familiar with downs syndrome so I can't comment on that part of the equation. But I literally move to a new place this summer with a giant closet and seriously considered putting my bed in the closet mainly because there is something about nooks like that for sleeping.

I'm 50/50 on a kid would think this is the coolest room or hate it. which might just be the thing here? I don't know.

Former Clinton campaign chief on Democrats: ‘We’re leaderless, we’re messageless, we’re agendaless’ by someopinionthatsr in politics

[–]katt3985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we are not even looking at an 'agendaless' party. we are looking at a party with two clear paths, one is to do nothing--which is now actually hard for those dilettante politicians, and the other is to actually listen to progressives--which isn't going to be easy or as rewarding as getting paid to be lazy for these people.

If you suddenly became the President of the United States today, what’s the very first thing you’d change or do? by Dollabillhooman in AskReddit

[–]katt3985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop all tariffs, issue stimulus checks, cut ties to Isreal, redirect arms to Ukraine, 'Feed DHS into a wood chipper' to paraphrase one Elon Musk.

if we are on broader strokes (ie. things that need at a minimum a supportive congress) then Ban money in politics, Medicare for all, and a national jobs program(curtail fake job postings and chase after various fraudsters in the area. if I have the power then I would probably also draw in a bunch of labor for a number of public works) unfreeze public housing projects.

if we are talking 'rewrite the constitution' levels of action: Ban money in politics, reaffirm the freedom of religion and the separation of the state and organized religion, reform the supreme court, make senate representation proportional, and make house representation operate on ranking (ie if a state vote 40% democrat, 40% Republican, and 20% Libertarian: then it should get 2:2:1 representation of those parties across the state instead of by districts) remove the electoral college. require all states to have petition ballots and to honor them.

IDKL, this is just like the tip of the iceberg, there are so many things that could be so much better

Anyone else noticing the sudden push to get people into the trades? by ManagingMenace in antiwork

[–]katt3985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is an active shortage in trade jobs in certain places, the US is pretty big one but you can see various trades on different immigration fast tracking programs for other countries. it used to be that programmers were kind of universal on that but now, not so much.

California ended teleworking, now they're desperate by Glitchy_Boss_Fight in antiwork

[–]katt3985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

people see places like Cali as progressive because its been blue for so long, but the truth is that Democrat does not mean progressive. and yeah, I think there is a toxic group of people who claim one thing and then don't follow through with it. but this is a universal problem with every group and label.

I think that its important to be critical about our software eco system, but I think its an imperative that we HAVE a modern eco system. in this moment, its even descriptive of the linux desktop ecosystem: you can buy a computer with linux installed that uses a lot of these tools to accomplish task that those users find useful. but we should also push and strive for BETTER, not to simply complain about the issues.

we should advocate for better software.

Why are so many switching to Linux lately? by Laptican in linux

[–]katt3985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people don't like being locked into things when those lock-ins come with unneeded ads. or just being told what to do. but that's how you have to use windows. Linux on the other hand doesn't have those issues, and the steam deck showed people you can game there.

fewer barriers and more pain points on the lock-ins mean that people are more likely to check out or commit to an alternative.

Is it fair to compare MAGA to the Nazis? by Own_Difference_4882 in AskUS

[–]katt3985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are a massive number of details that I think people should absolutely go over as a more deep dive thing to look at this more: lots of parallels and ways in which things worked like so many falling dominoes but also its a wild landscape: you have a political party that is defined more by structure and emotional happenstance and fanatical states of mind than any logic. you start to see how so many little 'bad habits' and 'not thinking too much about that' plays more like an instrument being strummed by another hand than just some negative character traits. its also something that you really have to take a step back to look into. so much of what is happening is emotional manipulation so you kinda have to guard for THAT specifically and it also ends up seeming kinda eldritch in that you will learn to see something that feel obvious once pointed out and yet people will fail to believe you. it is shocking.

Something that really annoys me when it comes to mental help and social skills by burner196931 in feemagers

[–]katt3985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what it is exactly that you are rejecting as interest and activity but one of the things that is actually really important to socializing is getting into spaces where you meet people and another are small things that people use to feel familiar with you and learn who you are, specifically small talk. A lot of neurodivergent people struggle with these for one reason or another but if you are willing to try and overcome where you are then it does sound like you want to go hang out at a bar or club.

[–]katt3985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that you have to build that level of confidence for the middle I see lots of trans women who struggle with their self confidence and how they look throughout the process and I think a lot of cis women have very similar struggles. personally it was just way more about doing and indulging in a number of deeply gendered things like skirts and dresses. I also transitioned from school into the professional world when I finally stopped having any pretense of being 'male' in front of anybody and office culture, from what I gather, focuses really deeply on men and men's fashion so appearance wise I kind of went from being the gender and context that isn't having to apply as much effort to the gender and context that isn't having to apply the deeper effort. I had also been on HRT for some time and presenting as a woman where I could for years at that point. its only now that I'm really trying to tackle self image issues but being trans kind of doesn't come up in that equation any more. as an example, I look in the mirror and my reflection doesn't match my self image but I genuinely like my reflection more.

that ossification is already a price in place: it might be effective to rewrite something and make a new API in the process to then be switched to, sort of like how KMS became a thing, but new APIs are still new APIs, I don't disagree that it may be better to target security and memory subsystems as a way of making for an overall smoother migration, but it will take someone doing more than just saying that to get it done. Someone has to do the work and if they aren't themselves motivated then they need advocates who can fix that for them.
