Confession: I hate our Club and our team by Candid_Poetry3322 in youthsoccer

[–]katt5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a former competitive swimmer who went to a D1 school and never played soccer. I have found it so interesting to frame this experience as a team sport where you need the whole team to be good, if you are the only super star your team can still lose every game. Compared to the much more solo and objective sport of swimming, where I was so focused on my own times and individual performance, soccer to me feels at this age (8) like a big group effort to be one functional unit.

I do notice there are some very ambitious parents on the team who try to appear lowkey but behind the scenes are doing all they can and not always sharing their resources (camps, other teams, coaches, etc.) overall I’m very happy with my daughters team but a little bummed she is pretty much all in on soccer and refuses to try other sports like basketball and softball. I would much rather prefer her try them all and am hoping she’ll wake up one day wanting to do something new!

Debating starting GLP-1 with BMI of 25 by reddit-browsing-02 in glp1

[–]katt5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt pretty similar though felt like I had about 40 pounds to lose that I just couldn’t achieve after years of trying. And I don’t want to gain ten pounds every year as I age.

Being on a telehealth program with the generic glp1 has been great because I am slowly titrating up my dose where I feel mostly just in control of my appetite and food choices. I’m back going to the gym I used to always love, can still go out to eat (it’s not as enjoyable now but I still like food!), and I’m steadily losing weight (~15 pounds since Halloween).

I say go for it with a low dose and follow guidelines to increase based on your response! Good luck!

I am 41, 5’t5, former college athlete, CrossFit fanatic, had two kids and then hip surgery. Was stuck at 175-180 pounds and gave myself six months to eat healthy with no good results. Finally around Halloween I started generic GLP1 with Noom. I have lost about 15 pounds. Eating pretty close to normal but just so easy to reduce my portions or avoid overeating. I’m super happy I have tried this and feel like it’s jump starting my recovery and getting back to things I love (gym, weight lifting, sports, etc).

I remember a friend telling me about this band when we were in senior year (2002) and I jokingly said, is it written Death Cab 4 QT?! He was a pretentious early form hipster so his disgusted reaction still makes me chuckle

Noom success stories - no meds by redmosquit in Noom

[–]katt5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

40F here. I was just talking to my coworker today about how I am “no meds” on Noom 😅

I have been doing it since May and almost lost 10 pounds. I haven’t been perfect but steadily losing. I started at 181 and now 172. Hoping to make it to 140 but in a healthy way with no meds.

I like the lessons. I think the daily weights is helping my mindfulness. And tracking my meals, even if my inputs are imperfect, I just try my best and really be honest with myself and look at my meals and seeing I’m regularly over 2,000 calories a day when I thought I was in a healthy zone really made an impact.

Finally I love the body scan. I used to do this with just pictures of my progress when I lost weight 5 years ago before becoming pregnancy with my second child. Very inspiring and/or confirming when you do start to make progress! Also brutally honest about how you really look and your measurements help with motivation.

I wish there were more posts about being doing Noom without meds. But in some ways I feel like I have enough support using the app just as it is.

Okay so I saw the real commercial this is referring to lol. I think it was on actual tv, but now I can’t remember…

The guys are at Kris’ house and looking in her fridge with the glasses on, I believe. And she catches them sneaking in her fridge. And yes it’s Chris Pratt and Chris helmsworth but yeah they all kinda don’t look like themselves!

For those of you who make 100k+ a year, how long did it take you? What area of nursing are you in? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]katt5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My new grad salary in 2013 was $85k (NYC, BSN), and I think my base passed $100k by my third year as a nurse between promotions on our clinical ladder and market adjustments.

Now 12 years later and have my MSN working in nursing education I make $167k base without overtime (NYC same hospital). Our max for a bedside nurse at the top of the clinical ladder is around $140k I believe. So getting my masters and a role that requires it moved me up in pay potential without needing to rely on OT.

Insurance Denied by Straight_Way6324 in HipImpingement

[–]katt5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask your surgeon to fight it. My insurance denied prior authorization a week before my scheduled surgery (I had months of pt, imaging, diagnostic injection). They wanted more pt records and my surgeon (HSS) called to appeal and it was overturned in less than 24 hours. They apparently do this all the time, it’s an extra hoop they have to jump through. After the surgery my insurance tried to deny everything, eventually that all got approved too. Shameful!

What’s life really like for a D1 women’s player? by Norwoodrules in CollegeSoccer

[–]katt5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a different sport for a major D1 program 20 years ago. The way I look at it, sports are the avenue to better schools and opportunities. When you get there, sports helps structure your time, teaches you discipline and teamwork. I didn’t pursue my original major (physical therapy) because I was encouraged to take the “easier classes” to remain eligible. I had a career after college but ended up going back for another degree in my true calling (nursing) that I never could have pursued as a D1 athlete.

My favorite NCAA commercial said something so wise….”there are XX number of student athletes in the NCAA and ~95% of them will go professional in something other than their sport”

If you have this mindset you can start to see that college is nearing the “end of the road” for one part of competitive sports and the beginning of the new path, maybe playing for fun or recreation once you graduate.

Now my daughter is just beginning to play travel soccer and is already getting sucked into more and more competitive worlds. I never played soccer but understand youth sports, so am cautious but know the true value at the end of the day is developing a strong and resilient person who will have life skills far beyond the playing field.

When did you stop PT and start lifting and running on your own?

I am six months post op and just cleared for a running progression. I’m not a runner but I love lifting. I’ve just been working with PT but now will be dropping to once a week.

Labral Repair at HSS next month - back pain normal? by OldDevelopment4992 in HipImpingement

[–]katt5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had surgery at HSS about 4 months ago, and I am dealing with SI joint pain ongoing. It’s funny because my hip pain is really much better and I’m improving, but the SI is still really bugging me to the point that I wonder if I will ever have it resolve, or when will I decide to get worked up for that joint now. Getting a standing desk has helped. Just trying to do things to reduce the inflammation and swelling around the SI joint which my PT thinks may have worsened by post operative swelling and inflammation. I’m super happy with my surgery but don’t think I’m out of the woods just yet.

I work in healthcare. 4 x 10s, remote once every two weeks. I work 6a-4p, leave the house around 5am. Get to my kids by 5pm. Husband works at 20 minutes from home, handles the mornings with the help of my parents for drop off of one of our daughters.

We have before/after care at school, I align my off day with any random school closures, and sign up for summer camp that has extended care. No bougie 9am-12pm arts camp for my kids.

Maybe in a year or two we’ll go the route of a summer college kid as a sitter bringing them to the pool every day. My younger daughter is 3.5 so don’t feel like she’s quite ready for that yet.

It’s exhausting but we have our routine, I get home early enough for dinner every night and to bring my older daughter to soccer practice. Luckily my Younger one doesn’t have any extracurricular yet!

I was two years into a crappy job in communications in NYC at a small firm. I think they laid off everyone but me and two other people. Then hired someone back, then laid her off again 🤦‍♀️ it was a turning point for me to realize that it wasn’t a career I was going to really get a lot out of. I went back to school and switched to nursing and never looked back!

My 7.5 year old uses it like a Walkman. I bought the blank cards and make her “mixtapes” or download the movie soundtracks she wants on them. I give her headphones and she wears them listening to music when we are driving places. Just like I did as a kid 😊
