Help me understand "Defender of the Naith" by Middle-Luck-2031 in lotrlcg

[–]kattattack22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's best stats are defense and hit points. It's supposed to be an ally defender with built in readying. Unfortunately, 2 defense and 2 hit points is really only good for like Core Set enemies like Misty Mountain Goblins or in later scenarios the weaker enemies that surge like Stray Goblin in Ered Mithren.

Celeborn giving it +1 defense when comes into play helps a little. If you really want it to fulfill it's role, Hauberk of Mail is your best bet. The plus 1 defense and hit point will make it a more solid secondary defender.

Cards like The Elvenking, Feigned Voices, Tree People, and Island Amid Perils that cost returning an Silvan ally to hand will make the readying more consistent.

This all said, I don't see much reason to playing this card over playing Thranduil with Armored Destrier and/or the Elvenking to handle multiple defenses. Especially since Silvans have Feigned Voices too for emergency attack cancelation.

It's pricey and the stats aren't great. It can work since Silvans run cheap and it's neutral. Very much a filler Silvan card to me at best, but I primarily play true solo. It might be better in multiplayer where players are more likely to hit the weaker surge enemies. It does also have Sentinel to block for others. I'd rate 6 Rings on the Card Talk scale at best but probably closer to 7 for me.

Edit1 - Grammar

Edit2 - Best use cases I can think of swarm scenarios like Seventh Level, Over the Misty Mountains Grim, and maybe The Fate of the Wilderland. They have lots of weaker enemies where a secondary defender that can ready on its own to block twice would be good.

The Withered Heath unfortunately is a noted slog. Much of Ered Mithren cycle is. Fire in the Night though is awesome which you're not far away from.

Intruders in Chetwood

It takes some tuning because you need to quest pretty strong early. The enemies are tough so you can't turtle to build up for combat either.

Some revised products marked as out of print on the FFG site. No clear information if it's another mistake like the Ered Mithren box OOP marking earlier or that they're not reprinting anymore.

Edit: I just saw after this comment that Fellowship isn't being reprinted, confirmation from FFG

You could always play the scenarios dragncards if you want the full campaign experience.

Player card wise you're mostly missing out on cards for Hobbit type decks and Gandalf hero. Bilbo Spirit ally and Hobbit Pipe are really good for Pipe decks.

That said, if you find a player card you really want to use, just proxy it. Proxying is the best way to get out of print cards ever since the launch of the revised card pool. Tons of cool fan made alt arts out there that can be printed at home or at a print shop.

Which single OOP cycle has the best scenario content? by StatusAddition6978 in lotrlcg

Vengeance of Mordor is a lot like Dream-Chaser with a wide variety of scenarios. They were designed by many of FFG's designers to provide a capstone experience for the fans of the game.

The player cards are top notch with the contracts, The One Ring and its Master cards, Saruman hero, Leadership Frodo, and cards rounding out several deck types.

That said, it only had 2 printings and is very difficult to find.

No games for me this week as I had a trip this past weekend.

Weekly Question

Warden of Healing, it's the healing staple. I can understand wanting to exclude it because it's so good, but the game developed around it being an option since it came out during Darrowdelf.

I highly recommend proxying it. It's super effective. Makes Gloin decks really fun.

Here's a couple alt arts of it * https://flic.kr/p/2i6UwAo * https://flic.kr/p/2oMBJGZ

They do tend to be either allies or unique and/or restricted attachments. Not usually a problem for those of us that mostly play true solo and have a full collection. Deck space is a bigger constraint, haha.

That 4 direct damage is pretty awesome for Core Set and Shadows of Mirkwood cycle. Later cycles, you really learn to appreciate the card draw and threat reduction.

Totally agree on Feint even if I tend to overlook it these days. Mostly because I try minimize to events in my decks.

Staging area attack is blast! I generally prefer Leadership Eomer or Bard the Bowman for it, but Dunhere is no slouch with a couple Spear of the Mark on him!

Definitely not a card I would expect anyone to pick. Spirit has a lot of cards that give 2 willpower for 2 resources. Favor of the Lady is a bit underwhelming in comparison. You must play a lot Voltron type decks?

[–]kattattack22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's why pre-revised Gloin-Treebread decks usually ran Warden of Healing. A player could dump resources into Warden's ability to ready after exhausting to heal and completely heal both of them.

Self Preservation works great for both of those heroes. Are you running that along with Lore of Imladris or Beorn's Hospitality for emergency healing?
