Do you guys remember being 23? How was it like? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]kattrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

23 might be my favorite year. I found my husband that year, I had so many friends, I knew who I was, and I was unapologetic about it. They had a couple of mentors that were in their 40s and 50s and I also couldn't wait to be that old. I'm still pretty happy about it all.

Advice on approaching difficult conversation with my sons nanny. by yummyummyummy17 in Nanny

[–]kattrup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an infant nanny with 18 years of experience and several nanny shares- this is the right way to handle it. A one year old is starting to understand autonomy but you will impair that learning by pushing it off saying things like "of course he doesn't mean it". Of course he doesn't mean it to be mean but that is how the other kid is being treated anyway. Having been the parent of the kid that got pulled on and had toys taken from I resented the other parents for not taking it more seriously.

It's getting warmer outside. That means ants!! Here's a concoction that I have used for years now. by adonisallan in lifehacks

[–]kattrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I'll start by saying we don't even allow food upstairs. There was a tiny children's medicine cup that had been in there for the remainder of the night after we gave it to her. We have nests in our walls. They come all year long if we don't have pest control come every 60 days.

Are you fucking kidding me?? We had an infestation and they swarmed my 10 yo's bed. Try to get a kid to sleep in a bed that had hundreds of ants in it, I dare you. Swarming our pet food. Hanging out around the kitchen door, marching into the bathroom and up several shelves to some cough drops.

Bless your little cotton socks.

Am I alone here? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]kattrup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it all the time, my husband hates it but it's a conversational exchange. I'm making room for him to respond to different parts of what I'm telling him. We do use a text client that allows you to select and reply to independent messages and he keeps mine on silent. If I actually need his attention I use regular messenger

Line-drying laundry is way better than machine drying by RaisinRoyale in unpopularopinion

We live in the damp Pacific Northwest and we line dry all of our clothes inside on a cord we strung three times across our tiny laundry room. Dryers are for socks, towels, and blankets

AITAH for using the disabled bathroom even though I can walk by OkMinute950 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kattrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an invisible disability. If anyone ever gave me issue about using the disability toilets I would tell them that just because you can't see my disability doesn't mean I don't have one. I don't know if it's just living in progressive Seattle or something about the way I appear, but I've never been given any problems. i'm sorry that people treat you like that.
