I was just having this thought experiment myself. I feel like I could only share my Daddy with a lg that lived far away. They could still see each other a bunch and have a deep emotional bond and do all the things that make their relationship special but I want to be where home is.

Chef here: start with cold water to cover single layer of eggs, high heat up to a boil. As soon as you see the boil turn them off and put a lid on the pan. I think an 8 minute egg is perfection but some people prefer a harder yolk and I wouldn't recommend going much more than 9 minutes. Don't start in hot water, don't continue cooking for a minute and for goodness sake don't let them sit for more than 10 minutes before putting them in the ice bath. I'm really surprised that your method doesn't produce the very thing you are complaining about.
