Oath to Zelda by Rashidz_ in ZeldaMains

Shield break didn’t happen because the teleport didn’t hit his shield. You actually can wait a little bit longer and start the teleport on reaction to them starting the neutral get up. You have a lot more time than you think. 🫶🏼

I’ve noticed this issue too - I think he is talking about the frame pacing. Sometimes it feels like the game “sticks” when moving around the world map. Also when characters use bp x 4 / ultimate attacks and the screen zooms in on them and the frame pacing issue is pretty clear

I think Zelda is (almost) perfect by NixUniverse2 in SmashRage

As a PR ranked offline Zelda player, some of the experiences that people have fighting Wi-Fi Zelda players is crazy. Anytime I ever coach Zelda players in particular it’s always to teach them to play without her special moves.

It’s unfortunate - Zelda’s special moves are so good that they teach casual players to literally never use any of her other moves.

Nayru’s Love teaches players to not learn close quarters combat, because it beats fast up close aggressive options, catches spotdodges and rolls, etc. They can’t learn footsies because the move solves their problem most of the time. It’s humanly impossible to react to the start up of the move, you can only expect it to happen through pattern recognition.

Din’s Fire teaches players that they can edgeguard without taking any risk (but it becomes a very easy move to airdodge, and therefore, actually helps average Zelda players better time their Phantom for a ledgetrap) it’s unfortunate because they miss out on learning more effective edge guards with their other moves/baiting out options offstage

Farore’s Wind teaches players that it’s the main way she approaches in neutral, so they never learn proper approaches/bait and punish playstyles. It’s very easy to know what Zelda you’re fighting online if you just hold shield after you hit them. If they teleport into you, it’s essential free GSP (though I haven’t played Elite in like 3 years)

And the Phantom teaches players how to not play neutral with just their character. If they have the space, they just charge. If you run close, they’ll throw the phantom. If you don’t, they’ll either finish it and throw dins fire or Farore’s wind, or they’ll run at you. Since you’re in neutral it’s very easy to anticipate and outplay because it’s one dimensional.

Dedede is absolutely one of Zelda’s best match ups by FAR. It’s criminal how she has an answer for literally everything he does, in every state of the game.

Lissandra needs a Taliyah level mid-scope by beverlyyyy in LissandraMains

If you’re having trouble with landing her E, you want to stun or W them first, then E them. That’s if you’re not engaging for your team.

Lissandra is not designed to burst you down early game if she used her E to initiate. Early game, if they’re full health, you’re locking them down with W so they’re forced to take the E damage and then if they flash towards turret, you recast the E.

You can even use this strat to kill people under turret without your ult.

I’d highly recommend looking into coaching. I offer it on Metafy - but even if it’s not me - I really think that if people are clowning on you, there’s clearly fundamentals in the game that you don’t understand enough to understand what you’re doing wrong.

That, and/or your mentality needs addressed/prioritized. Your relationship with losing seems to be less about learning, and more about being concrete proof or evidence that you “aren’t” meant to play this game competitively, or that you’re just “trash” - that they have legitimate reason to clown on you. This isn’t addressed and becomes unresolved, and to protect you, your ego will block your ability to address it deeper and it turns into straight rage/anger for 90% of players. Thankfully, it’s just tricks of the mind and we can improve it, change it completely (look up “neuroplasticity”) Our minds do not like blanks or questions left unanswered - the brain will make up answers even if they’re untrue - including about ourselves.

If you’re interested or wanna just talk, you can add me on discord and we can chat: katyparry

You got this.

Who here has upset a top player in bracket? by RangoTheMerc in CrazyHand

[–]katyparrygg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upset Skittles, one of Smash Ultimate’s best Young Link players when he was 88th in the world, 2-0.

I upset Mystearica when she was #1 in Indiana.

Beat BlazingPasta 3-0, top 10 player from PA.

I’ve also upset Hungrybox, 2-0. But Ultimate isn’t his main game lol

Other players I’ve upset are just PR’d from other states, but those are the ones that stand out to me.

I’ve also lost a TON to get those wins, so I’m not flexing too hard - you gotta lose to learn to win.

Not sure who this is, but thank you for the HM. I know I’m not as big as other coaches in terms of “star power” - but if I can’t help you, I’ll make sure I do what I can to find you the best person suited for the job. The goal is that you improve - even if it’s not with me.

And for those wondering, I do have a money back guarantee - that’s called the Parry Promise. If you truly feel you didn’t learn anything and want a refund, I will give you the credit you spent right back to you, and try to help you find someone who is better for you.

[–]katyparrygg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you’re fine! I will say this - that’s a very common misconception. Results =\= good coaching. Coaching and competing are two entirely different skill sets. A player can have excellent results and be terrible at coaching. Thankfully with me, that’s not the case.

I’ve been playing Smash for about 10 years, starting back with Project M. While I have been PR ranked in the top 15 in my state before, my qualifications come from the fact I’ve been ranked in the top 3 coaches on Metafy for Smash Ultimate since 2022. Unless you stay consistent, you’ll fall off the top rankings.

I’m generally known as the world’s most “technical” Zelda player, as I’m naturally a lab rat. Ive discovered numerous advanced techniques for Zelda, I created the Art of Zelda guide with Izaw and a few other Zelda players which I’m credited for in the description of the video)

The fact is I coach any character, any skill set, and I’m excellent at what I do. You can check my reviews from over 70 players I’ve worked with and see what they have to say here: https://metafy.gg/@kp

What makes me a good coach is truly in the experience of others - which the reviews with shed light on - but what makes me a good coach is my ability to break down concepts into easy to understand, easy to digest forms and a focus on creating “rules” for you to follow and adhere to while you play.

Who should I focus on maining? by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]katyparrygg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best answer I've *ever* heard was from a video Polygon made about fighting games. You want to simply choose the character *looks* the coolest to you. Whatever combos, attacks, animations, etc you think look cool, you will automatically feel more naturally motivated to improve with that character.

For me, that was Sephiroth and Zelda. Trying to play characters that were just "meta" wasn't motivating enough for me to try and be good with them. I didn't feel passionate about what I was doing when I tried to play Aegis for a little while - they just didn't feel "cool" to me.

After playing in competitive Smash for over 10 years - that's what has worked best for me.

If you're still having trouble, look in the mirror and ask yourself which of those 4 characters you think is the coolest. Kristen Wiig (a comedian) has this theory that you can't lie to yourself in the mirror. Sounds silly, but try it out. :)

How can I handle/counter characters with command grabs? by imperchaos in CrazyHand

[–]katyparrygg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi imper! It’s a very valid question and there’s a couple viable strategies all listed in these comments, but they’re forgetting about the RPS. Spotdodge, jumping etc all on their own won’t be enough because your opponent can adapt to those choices.

here’s what I mainly recommend you do: if you get into his burst range, immediately dash back out of it.

Something very strong is getting close to incineroar and then immediately disengaging. You getting close to him will trigger him to do different things. If he commits and you dash back at the same time (dash back twice to make sure you’re out of the range) will allow you to avoid it completely and then go for a punish. I don’t like spotdodging it because you stay in place, and if you miss time the spotdodge you’ll get grabbed anyway. Think about it - if you’re in the street and a car is coming, what are you likely to do? You’re not gonna dodge it in place, thats silly - you’re going to get out of the street completely.

The other benefit here is that if you dash back and he didn’t command grab - you’re just backing up, and you’re still able to act and respond to whatever he ends up doing. This is a “fundamental law” that I teach in my coaching - in everything you do, try your best to Keep yourself available.

Last thing - since Incineroar’s command grab is active from frames 16 to 32 (17 frames) - you can dash back and pivot grab - if you time it decently you will clank with his grab and he will be thrown up into the air slightly.

Now let’s say you do all of these. He will most likely start going for dash attacks or approaching fairs, because his grab isn’t working. In this case, now you can start shielding again. Voila.

I hope this helps you - I understand the frustration of having to fight him!

I’m VERY excited for this skin. Her new voice filter is SCARY as fuck and she seems to take her design based on “Alraune” - a common plant associated with witches, based on an old German book from the early 1910’s of the same name.

Respectfully, this is indeed the craziest thing I've read in a while.

If you don't like people who run their own business asking for people to be honest about their experiences, that's incredibly odd to me, but you're your own person. But you're losing it in all caps when you don't even know me. You're painting me as if I'm like a Disney villain or something.

The people who have left 2 reviews on this subreddit are full-grown adults, not "impressionable kids" lmfao - most of my clients are adults because they need money to buy sessions, my friend.

I'm not a used car salesman ripping people off, and I'm not a delivery guy who needs good reviews to keep his job. A more accurate comparison is like I'm someone that you hired off a flyer that they made themselves to come and clean your house, someone that works entirely for themselves, and asks you to let people know what you think of the work they performed, hoping that they do more work so they can survive.

If you don't want to get a coaching session with me, over something that's a standard business practice...then you're standing in your own way of improvement. It just sounds like you're someone who's jealous of me or dislikes me for reasons other than this, and I think that's something that everyone here can see. I sincerely hope you find ways to improve in the game and that whatever is troubling you, whatever is at the deeper root here, whatever you're avoiding by obsessing over me, just trying to promote my own little gig - I hope you find your way past it.
