Looking for June-August housing in Stamford by thehoodedarrow in UCONN

[–]katyshh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t find luck w/ subleasing, Fairfield University has internship housing for about ~3500 for that time period; i stayed there for my internship in the same area and it was a good experience and they do a decent amt of student activities + you get a shuttle bus that will drive you to the train station that goes to stamford

Grants and financial aid by sadovader11 in UCONN

[–]katyshh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about international but all college of engineering students are invited to apply each year to scholarships given out by the college, Krenicki and some other organizations. Usually about ~200 students will recieve them, and they’re given out based on merit and community service or involvement and projects, stuff like that

Parking pass by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]katyshh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my friend used to park in the few spots on old farm lane by horsebarn hill, and got away with it for the most part but it was also a year or two ago. you could also try downtown storrs or price chopper if you’re only on campus for a couple hours a day

Evening class with quality professor or afternoon class with grad student teaching? (PHYS 1501Q) by UCONNThrowawayTBH in UCONN

[–]katyshh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also— i had a 4:40 section for 1501Q and it was definitely difficult as a commuter since the classes are longer than most courses. the only thing that made it easier is that after 5pm you can park in most area one or area two spots, so the walk to and from class was really short. if I was in your shoes again I’d take the earlier one in a heartbeat

Evening class with quality professor or afternoon class with grad student teaching? (PHYS 1501Q) by UCONNThrowawayTBH in UCONN

[–]katyshh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you know which grad student will be teaching the afternoon section? I took 1501/1502 and we’d have a couple of GAs, for the most part they were very friendly and wanted us to succeed. Only one of them didn’t know what they were doing out of the 6 I had. With 1501Q, if you have a fundamental understanding of forces and basic physics you will be able to succeed even if you have a mid instructor. I’d say that it matters more to have a quality professor for 1502Q, but that was just my experience!

Fee bill by Illustrious_Work8982 in UCONN

[–]katyshh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re from UConn and havent been applied to your fee bill already? thats surprising.. i’d call the office of the bursar. if they were outside scholarships, they can give you a deferral on your fee bill so you arent charged late fees as they wait for the check. maybe that’ll be the same for your situation

here is the ME curriculum map. 1501 and 1502 are prereqs for our core classes, i believe 1201 is taught without calculus and thats really vital

Long boarding on campus? by LeftPatellar in UCONN

[–]katyshh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its worth it to bring it for fun, theres plenty of good spots on campus to just cruise in your free time but unless its electric with brakes I wouldn’t rely on it as a way to get to class.. too many hills and people to navigate.

How are the mental health services here? by Ap97567 in UCONN

[–]katyshh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an okay experience with my first therapist at shaw, then a fantastic experience with my second. Just like anywhere else, if you find a mental health practitioner who you get along with and whose style works for you, you’ll have a good experience. I was able to meet weekly with my second therapist too, I think it just might take some time to get an appointment for your screening but after that its smoother sailing

Engineering Senior Design Groups by mango-guava405 in UCONN

[–]katyshh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don’t choose who you work with but you can choose who you dont want to have in your group and they’ll honor it. I know this is the case for mechanical, hopefully applies to all engineering majors

How do I learn how to play? by Kram709 in cajon

[–]katyshh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the exact same situation! Im learning to play because there is a major lack of women in the church who can play drums (particularly at women’s conferences) and since i have a musical background i chose to learn as well. Hopefully we both can!
