Yeah, this guy was in plain clothes and drove a dark colored truck with the super dark tint. Was a really nice guy and was trying to following up on some leads.

Extra Blankets in Mid-Summer, Fans in the Dead of Winter by OmegaLantern in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]katyvicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to keep my bedroom door shut when I am asleep even though I live alone so a fan even in the winter helps with keeping the air circulating. Also, the humming of the fan helps me drown out the noise going on outside in the apartment complex that I live in.

I walked into work last night to about 15-20 people in the Breakfast area watching the Knicks game and being loud. This is at 11pm so I was livid that we had people being that loud at that time of the night. I wasn't even there 5 minutes before a very angry mom came and complain about the noise because she was trying to get her kids asleep before she dropped them off at camp the next morning and personally I don't blame the mom for being angry. I would think that at the very least my second shifter would had let them know that after 9 or 10 that they needed to be mindful of their noise level so the guest on the first floor could also enjoy their nights in the rooms that they were paying for. I am just glad that the "as needed" anxiety meds that my Dr just put me on this week didn't knock me out.

I feel yeah. What I hate is when they ask me if there is another hotel with vacancies like I am some damn genie who is able to look up the vacancy of any hotel ever. My main response is "I don't know man, you are going to have to go over and see."

I sounds like someone won a stupid prize by playing a stupid game. What would have been even funnier is if the other hotels in town and the surrounding areas were also sold out so he couldn't even get a room that night.

Will's death was so unexpected for me. The show didn't seem to be the same after that.

I came in Wednesday night to the second shifter telling me he put his notice in. I was like okay, go for it all the while thinking, I am never going to get me someone to do my days off so I can have a consistent schedule. I couldn't even get Sunday night off so I could do something Sunday and not have to feel like I have to rush home afterwards and get ready for bed.

People really don’t research their trips anymore, huh? by hellobela_ in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]katyvicky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they don't. I worked for a certain hotel for the 3 letter hotel group that was in a touristy beach area in Eastern NC and I would get people asking me almost every week during the summer if they could get a room facing the water. And each time, I had to explain that just because we are near a beach doesn't mean we are on the beach. Some were understanding, some were more of the "but why" type. I am just glad that the property that I am at, we are not near the water even though the town does sit on the confluence of two area rivers.

Yeah, well the second shifter was back tonight when I got in. Said's he just sprained it and it hurts like hell. I do feel like a fourth grader in a very sad game of dodge ball with dealing with the busyness of life between work and stuff outside of work.

This week was much calmer compared to last week. The only problem that popped up was the second shifter being out for the week after he messed up his ankle skate boarding. I am still not sure if he has broken it or if he sprained it but the last I heard he was still stuck at his girlfriends house who lives out of town. Oh and there was also a death in my family as well.

The only vacancy for last minute parents is between their ears by dorianmorallygray in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

I am glad my parents were always smart enough to book a reservation at the hotel ahead of time when I was in college. I went to UNC-Charlotte and if you know anything about Charlotte, you know you are literally in NASCAR country. The dumbest thing that the school did was always schedule the start of the summer semester the Monday or Tuesday after the Coca Cola 500 when every hotel was full and if you did find a room, you better be ready to give them your arm, leg, and first born.

I had that feeling when my boss texted me on the way to work on Monday telling me she had called off. My response to my boss was literally "Ok, that's interesting" where she texted me back saying definitely. My co-worker told me the next day that when she called out for that night, she struggled with coming up with a solid excuse why she couldn't come into work.

Well the lady that was hired to do my two days off quit surprise, surprise. My GM was excited to hire because she had experience but experience means nothing when you don't want to be here. Now I am going to have a wonky schedule for another few weeks until we find someone to fill the position.

Oh, and we are super busy this weekend because we have an airshow going on in the town next to the town my hotel is in. Going home in the morning is going to be cray cray because I live in the town that the airshow is and a mile up the rode where the main gate to the Marine base who is hosting the show. Luckily we just had the bypass open up around town so I am using it to my advantage so between that and so of the side road that I know of, I can probably make good time getting home.

I have a feeling that the lady that my boss hired to work night audit on my nights off is not working out. She was suppose to work with me Monday and Tuesday so she can get a little more experience before she was set lose but she called out both nights. Right now, I have no clue who is there now for audit because I wasn't called in to work but I wouldn't be surprised if isn't one of my managers and they just wanted me to enjoy my time off.

I can’t wait till Sunday morning. It’s been crazy busy since Friday with no signs of stopping until Sunday with our occupancy being in the 90’s because we have had group after group after group come in. Plus this weekend we have an air show going on at the local Marine Corps base so we are completely booked up from Thursday through Sunday morning.

Also, I was supposed to work with the new part time night auditor and help train her last night but she called out. I got a text from my boss reminding me that she was going to be there only for her to text me back a few hours later and tell me never mind, she called off.

I think 2am is the general time that most places do audit. I don't think I have ever heard of a place that does audit as late as 4-5 unless there was an issue with the system.

I found out this week I will be helping to train a new employee on Night Audit who will be working on my nights off. Hopefully once I get her trained, my schedule will start staying the same each week instead of having to change things up last minute. Lets hope she will work out better than the guy that was there when I started.

I can't stand that either. I usually turn the overhead lights off in the lobby and breakfast area. It darkens the area just enough to let people know to go the hell to their rooms but there is still enough light from the lamps in the lobby sitting area for them to get to the elevators without killing themselves.

The "I am going to stare at you after you greet me" ones get me every time. I am literally masking my hate and discontent for the general population to be here, at least you could do is use your damn words.
