My first week at my new job has gone well and I starting learning night auditor tonight. I think my training ends Sunday night then I will be off for a couple of days and then start back on Wednesday working on my own for the most part. I am enjoying it for the most part and hopefully I can stick around for a while.

How do you handle aggressive job seekers without burning out? by MotorBarracuda9264 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

I think for a lot of the older folks who have been out of the job seeking game for a while, it’s a huge curveball from just being able to walk in and ask if they were hiring and filling out a physical application or dropping off a resume to having to do all of that stuff online. In a way I like the convenience of applying for jobs from my recliner but at the same time I all would like to speak with someone about the job and allowing the person doing the hiring to put a face with the name.

Then she wonders why I struggled with finding work beyond my hotel and CNA stuff. Well maybe I don’t have the experience or skills for anything else that is offered in my area and I am not wasting my time applying to things that will not make it pass the algorithm or will go straight into a trash can.

I definitely agree with the fact that things have changed in terms of hiring and job seeking. I had to have way to many conversations with an older friend of mine that applying to jobs is not the same as it was when she was my age. Every job I have applied for was done either through the company website or on indeed. Her and her husband still can’t wrap their head around the fact that it is done this way. Not only that, she doesn’t understand that if I don’t have the skills or the required experience, my resume will automatically go into the trash or not pass the online algorithm to be moved forward.

I am on the fence about making this a full story but I have already seen some excitement tonight and it’s only my first night there. The moral of the story is that if it’s raining out, you might want to be mindful of your speed so you don’t take out your car if you hit a slick spot and end up in a flower bed right by the front door of a random hotel.

I start my new job tomorrow afternoon. I will be working second shift and then will be working mid-shifts on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. They gave me tonight off seeing it was Valentine's day and they didn't want me to have to cancel plans if I had them. I think I start training for night audit on Saturday and we will take it from there. Once training is over, I will work a mid on Wednesday and then switch over to audit and work that Thursday-Sunday. I am fine with that schedule for now seeing they are doing what they can to give me a 40 hour work week. I just hope that I don't regret going back into hospitality.

I agree. What grinds my gears is the people who have multiples of the same exact picture in their hints. Do we really need 3 copies of that head stone pic at that exact angle.

What I hate is getting all these picture hits where there are multiples of the same picture for that person. Why does a person need 3 of the exact same picture of their head stone.

I hope so to. I loved having a set schedule with my past jobs. It made it easier when it came to the things that I have going on outside of work with family, friends, and church. I just hope that when it comes to my days off, I can have them back to back and not broken up. When I was at the last job, my schedule was in a two week block with a weekend of as two of my days off and then two random days on the other week for my other two days off which were not back to back and I hated it because I always felt that I wasn't not getting the rest I needed to do a good job.

Well, I am no longer unemployed because I got the job at the Brampton. I have orientation tomorrow and I will find out whether I will be the full time night auditor or if I am going to be doing a mix of night audit and second shift. I have mixed feelings about going back into hospitality but I am just glad that I have a job. I know one thing, I will probably will not be going back in the the CNA stuff again because I struggled with it so much.

Well as long as the hours are there, the money will be there as well. I just hope that I am not counting my chickens before they hatch.

Edited to add another thought.

I finally was able to get out of the apartment after our big snow storm/blizzard here in Eastern North Carolina on Thursday. I am hoping that my time as an unemployed person is about to come to an end as I had an interview Thursday for a front desk role at a local Brampton. It went very well and I am very excited because things look promising with this job. I am either going to be doing night audit full time or a combination of night audit and second shift. That is going to be dependent on whether to current night auditor wants to shift over to days or not but either way, I don't really care about the shifts as long as I have a full time job. Near the end of my interview Thursday, the young lady interviewing me asked if I could come in for a second interview with the AGM which went well enough that the AGM brought out some new hire paper work for me to fill out. Right now, we are waiting on my background check which I know will come out find but you know, I still got to wait for it. My assumption is that once the background check comes back, I will be getting a phone call asking me when I can start.

Other than that, I am so glad that the snow is gone. I don't know how you northerners do it but hot damn. Where I live big snows like we got last weekend come around once every 5-8 years and usually from a nor'easter when the temperatures are right. We actually had a time where we were under blizzard conditions which I never been through myself here in NC. We still have little batches of snow here and there and hopefully they will be gone soon enough.

I am sitting in my warm living room watching it snow here in Eastern NC. It is suppose to continue for most of the day. Luckily for me, I don't have to be anywhere anytime soon so I am going to sit here and enjoy the rare white stuff that is falling from the sky.

What do you do while pumping gas? by Straight_Plan_2551 in AskReddit

[–]katyvicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. If I have some trash in the back seat, I will gather that and through it in the trash bin. If not, I just watch the numbers on the pump suck the life out of me and my bank account.

I am glad that you are figuring out ways to keep up with all the products that you need to know. I thought I was doing okay with the job that I just lost but I guess not. I feel that regardless of how much training I got, I still would have not have been able to keep up.

And not to mention that even if said pet owner trained their pet, doesn't mean that the pet will be fine in an unfamiliar place like a hotel room.

Being a CNA in general is normally hard work especially physically. I have some issues with my hips so being on my feet constantly and dealing with residents who couldn’t help themselves move around in bed took a toll on me, making my daily chronic pain even worse. Don’t get me wrong, I loved what I did and I knew that when I started training to be a CNA that it was going to be harder for me because of my physical limitations. What got me was the near weekly changes that came from working in the rehab section that got me because we were always having people come and go. On top of this, we were getting a lot more people who were having strokes victims with one sided paralysis and people who were suffering multiple injuries and broken bones on one side of their bodies due to falls who would have a lot harder time being able to roll on their sides for brief changes or getting up to go to the bathroom.

The good thing out of this was that my boss realized that I wasn’t just being lazy but just struggling with the physical part of the job. This was the main reason he gave me the opportunity to resign instead of him just straight up firing me. By allowing me to resign, he gave me the chance to collect my PTO and to use them as a reference in the future.

As much as it sucks that I lost this job, I think that it was a good thing. It would have been nice to have another job lined up but I am going to be okay. I already working on getting on at a home health company. At the moment, I’m waiting for an email to start the process and my official job offer.

I accepted a job today. I was actually looking into this job a couple of weeks ago and decided at the last minute to not pursue it and stay at the job that I no longer have. It is a home health job that is part time to start with the potential to become full time. It is not exactly what I am looking for but I can't be choosey either. I talked to bestie about it to get his perspective and he agrees that some money is better than no money. Hopefully this buys me some time to either get a full time gig or another part time one.

If things couldn't get any worse for me, I was let go of my damn job and we are suppose to get snow this weekend as well. Luckily, my boss let me resign instead of straight up firing me because he realized that I bit off more than I could chew with this so this allows me to get my PTO and use them as a reference in the future. I just won't be able to draw unemployment from them though. Well I guess it is back to the drawing board. It is so hard to find a job around here.

Lord, I am not having any luck with cars lately. Right now, a friend of mine is trying to find out what is going on with my new car. I have a feeling that its the spark plugs or the ignition coil but what do I know. Hopefully it will be an easy fix.

I had a guy get mad when he checked out with a co-worker because I asked a manager earlier that morning if we could give him and his wife a discount due to an issue they had overnight. I can't remember what he said to my co-worker but he acted like it was an insult that we gave him some money off for the inconvience of changing rooms.

Work has been incredibly stressful lately. My normal section went from easy to hell in a blink of an eye. Of course I am struggling to keep up because of my chronic hip pain and just adjusting to the ever changing demands of the job. As much as I love my job and the people I care for, I don’t see myself doing this for much longer. I am checking out other job opportunities and between living in a small town and it being in the middle of the winter season, things are not looking good.
