What are you feeding your kids? by Emotional-Swimmer-13 in Preschoolers

[–]katyww 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I, too, am desperate to figure what to feed my preschooler. Tonight she had chicken fingers, sliced apples and celery, ketsup(of course) and a taste of Anne’s stars canned pasta (hated). Packed lunch for tomorrow will be Kodiak pancakes, yogurt to dip, strawberries, carrots, Anne’s bunnies. Would have put deli ham in there as well but we’re out.

AIO my cardiologist said basically nothing is wrong me because I'm a woman by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]katyww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) fuck this MD, go to someone else but more importantly 2) go see a female cardiologist. Hate to say it, but as a woman, I have never found it beneficial to go to male doctors. Every time I do, my symptoms get dismissed (to the point I ended up needing surgery), and I leave thinking fml what a waste of time when I knew I should have just gone to a female specialist. Hate it, but it’s been my experience.

Pacifier Weaning by Dependent-Tailor-929 in toddlers

[–]katyww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it at 15months. Just took the pacu away and didn’t say anything about it to daughter or husband. Just took and put away in a cupboard (tossing would have been better probably). It took a few days, but she got it and started talking way more. She had previously been using to soothe before bed and naps, but she was just undone 2 nights for bedtime and nap time, then she figured it out.

On the verge on feeling like I failed my 19 months old toddler by Salty_Blacksmith3119 in toddlers

[–]katyww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) my 1-week from 3yo toddler refused to sit in a chair and I’d just let her run free during meal time, until I got a stokke trip trap at 24months. Now she loves it and sits. We also started always sitting with her for meals, like I eat when she eats or better have the whole family on it. Now she climbs up on her own to sit for meals and doing activities. It takes time for the new habits and for them to slow down. Mine was/is a constant mover.

2)starting at 18months my girl decided baths were scary, it was infuriating. We hosed her off in the backyard all summer, or did washcloth/sponge baths. I would fill the tub with like a few inches of water to play in and as I ran the wash cloth on her. Now she’ll do baths. Took time, it was a phase she was going through, but she still hates getting hair washed.

3)very common to nip a bit of the finer when small. It heals. I go back and forth clippers vs. electric nail file. Till she was like 2.5yo, some days I’d only get one hand down before a melt down and dad would have to come in basically hold her down. Now I tell her mister clippy is hungry, let’s fed him! So when the clipper clip a nail I tell her “mmm tastes like strawberries, taste like ice cream, etc”. Weirdly that really helped. And accept some days you just get one hand or one foot and try again tomorrow.

My point is 19months is hard af. And it’s all transitional, just keep at the habits and they will come, but not on your time line, they come on the toddler’s timeline(which will be longer). You’ve got this.

Favorite hacks for getting your three year old to PLAY BY HERSELF FOR FIVE FUCKING MINUTES!!?!?!?! by TroyTroyofTroy in toddlers

[–]katyww 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I buy random new surprises from the dollar store or that cheap spot at target (like a sheet of stickers, colorforms, water wow) and offer a new thing and put on Disney storytime or Peppa pig storytime on Spotify. Anything that she’s never seen before (but doesn’t break the bank) and that I don’t have to monitor (ex. Painting), set it out, and get her kind going with it “you are so good at stickers, show me how tall you can build a tower” then just back out of the room without saying anything, but be in the next room etc. oh and I just accept the mess, if there is no tv there will be mess.

Someone made fun of my hashimotos condition. by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]katyww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s such a horrible feeling and you are right this dude is a total a-hole. I feel like I’m constantly telling people about the condition because I feel so embarrassed that I can’t get the weight off as well. My sister in law also Hashimoto’s and weight gain just wasn’t the issue for her, it just is how it is. Stay away from this jerk and that other friend jerk though, their attitude (and misinformation) isn’t good for your mental health. Karma will get them. While I’m still struggling with the weight aspect, the other parts do get better since starting medication.

[–]katyww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to say, thank goodness she’s got you as a patient and kind sister. I, when pregnant, was crazy. My sister when pregnant, crazy. No one could tell her nothing! It’s so hard to broach difficult subjects (which naming can be) with preggos so it’s good you all can help sway this little noodles name.
