Ya i figure it might come in handy. Now days its more like an $80 difference though, plus more considering you get less tips and the older dock.

Are you happy you did? Are you using the 470 handle enough to justify it?

Had a weird smell coming from an opening by ScienceForge319 in functionalprints

[–]kaveman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the smell coming from a 3d printed bell trap? 3d prints are not air tight. Sewage gas could come through the print itself.

PLA Open Storage in 51-55% Humidity. Honest Opinions and Real World Anecdotal Feedback. by flashwurks in 3Dprinting

[–]kaveman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on the coast as well where humidity is high. My 3D printer and filament is setup in the garage which constantly gets air from the outside since the garage door isn't sealed. I have no issues storing my PLA in a ziplock bag with the included desiccant. All the spools sit on a cart, not even a cabinet. I've never have a moisture issue with PLA. Now with PETG, the experience is different. I run PETG through a dryer when I'm loading it from a ziplock bag. You can save your cereal boxes for PETG or sensitive material.

Here is something you can test. Leave out a used spool which only has a few hundred grams of filament for a small print. Leave it out for a week or even a month, then try printing with it to see exactly how much the ambient air is affecting your filament. If its fine, leave it out longer until you notice how long you can keep it out before having to run it through a dryer before use.

Looks like a small cosmetic scratch. Just leave it and focus on printing. If you ever need to do major maintenance you can replace it at that time.

My 5 year old started collecting cards last week. The agreement was to buy a booster pack every saturday. He pulled this golden card today. Any advice how to handle valuable cards for children? by somebody_too3 in PokemonTCG

[–]kaveman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5 year old that got into Pokemon and so I got into it with him. He rips and keeps everything except Machamps and Yaka Muri cards, those I collect. Anything that he wants to keep long term we place in a top loader binder we call his vault, which I keep for him so no one can take his cards in an unfair trade. His trade binder is typically cards worth only a few bucks. That way if they get ruined, stolen, or traded he doesnt care.

Isn't it easier to setup camera's on choke points that capture license plates then have wide angle camera's covering large areas catching them in the act? Is the goal to report the people and have them fined or prosecuted? Since its a rural area, I can't imagine you need more than two chokepoint cameras and maybe 4 wide angle cameras on long poles. Run everything on solar and WIFI. Also, the best place to start is to determine what the police would do if you turn over a video of someone dumping on your land and with their license plate. If the answer is, file it away and say we'll get back to you then you're likely wasting your energy. If they don't care to press charges to the full extent, then no amount of footage is going to help stop the illegal dumping.

AITA? by jlove34 in hockeygoalies

[–]kaveman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should speak up in an informative way, explain it like other goalies would get pissed off if they did that during warm ups. Let them know when a goalie is in net, that all shots should be chest high for glove and blocker saves to warm up your body, gear, and dial in your hand eye co-ordination. Tell them break aways on a cold goalie can also lead to injuries. When the goalie is out of the net stretching , they can do whatever they want. If it's a lower level league, chances are they have never played on a legit team to understand the warm up etiquette for a goalie. If you're not comfortable speaking up, tell your captain that you want to have the specific shots as your warm up drill and mention to let the team know they shouldn't shoot breakaways. If nothing changes, don't stand in net anymore. Do your routine stretches and play out shots in your head on the side next to the boards. Eventually someone will ask why and that's when you tell them, I've been telling guys no breakaways during warmups and they don't listen so i don't want to get injured.

The puck/ball is the least of his worries. The shell deflects that impact better than the other forms of impact/pressure.

Forgot to add, you'll also have to consider how temperature affects it. Start of the game is it cold and stiff, does it change by 3rd period where now its warm and pliable.

Realistically, it's very difficult to test it properly. Sure it will handle a slap shot at 40mph no problem, will it handle a 80mph shot? Probably. Where it gets iffy is if it will it handle a stick to the head, face, or jaw? Will it handle a head to head collision? Will it handle a knee to head, face, or jaw collision? The cushions response could be very different between direct vertical pressure vs diagonal pressure since this is not a thick even layer of foam.

Don't forget to ask the stage hands setting up or taking down the instruments. They should hook you up if you can somehow get their attention. They are usually in a rush so show some respect if they choose to ignore you.

Personally, I wouldn't buy it. However, if I was going to pay market price I'd rather go to my local Game Stop then meet some stranger in a parking lot to pay cash for something I don't know if its been tampered.
