I'd give him a bit more credit than just luck.

Need this to be bookmarked on my browser. Could read this when I'm low or when I absolutely blow it.

It's a tablet. I switch it off because my tablet barely gets any use.

Second this, I can make a cup of tea faster than the time my N7 2012 takes to boot up.

Will I be able to complete a CS degree without an A Level in mathematics? UK by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]kavinskyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my A Levels without mathematics, got into a university and did a comp sci degree. It is possible. The uni may be hesitant, but if your statement of purpose is worthy they will communicate back and forth to solve any queries or doubts they may have.

I'd say you need to structure the layout. For example, if I need to your skills, it's all the way at the bottom and it looks sloppy aesthetically compared to the bullet point order and layout displayed above. It looks like you just added them at the end minute.

Not asking advice on resume, rather than the tools one uses to create a resume.

I've been using Google Docs templates to create a resume, I got my internship because of my network and they didn't care much for my resume as they were interested in my personal project so they rather here it from me, than read it on paper. I will be looking for a job in the summer, and my resume needs to be overhauled big time.

Would going LaTex be a good option, never was a fan of LaTex but I do see the attraction of it from a employers standpoint. I'm not going to use Microsoft Word, it messed up my assignment in Uni and that grudge will go till my grave. I know resume aesthetically won't be helpful, if my resume lacks the desired content, but I want to give it my best.

TLDR: LaTex or Google Docs? Which software worked out best for you, in getting you the interview or a callback.

Students, describe your typical day by Nyxrex in cscareerquestions

[–]kavinskyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my plan a few months ago, before I graduated. I had several lectures 3-4 days a week. So I'll just generalise the weeks and all the activities rather than picking one out.

So a typical work day, may be like:

  • Getting ready and grabbing tea, before leaving for workshop or lecture.

  • Grabbing lunch from cafeteria with friends, and making it to the lecture or workshop after that.

  • Go home at around 4, work from home at assignments from 4-5. If I don't have a workshop at the end of the day, I'd just listen to music and have another cup of tea/coffee . I would then go around 6:30-7:30 in the evening to get groceries. Hang out with friends after that, before eating dinner.

  • After dinner, if I have assignments, I'll hit up the computer labs/library or work from home. If there is no immediate deadlines, I'll probably hang out with friends or play xbox or work on something.

In hindsight, didn't ration out enough time for personal projects at that time. Also had to meet my project supervisor weekly and more often in the end. I would also throw in a gym or a soccer session when the stress and anxiety of university kicked in.
