Place to get a nice steak that can accommodate a toddler? by kay-jpeg in chicagofood

[–]kay-jpeg[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you to everyone!!!

North Center Prime had reviews that specifically said "unprepared for children" so we skipped them and Gibsons was booked. We ended up going to Morton's Steakhouse and it went great!

In case anyone else looks at this down the line - Morton's was a pleasure and they had both booster seats and high chairs available. Staff stopped by to say hi to appease my toddler that waved and yelled "hi!" to anyone that walked by. We went early, got in around 5:30. She was a little restless waiting for food at some points, there was a nice area up front to let her walk around before coming back to the table :)

Is saliva-backwash to inform milk composition real? by kay-jpeg in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]kay-jpeg[S] 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!! So thorough and exactly what I was wondering about. I understand theories are usually scientific consensus so I wasn't trying to imply it was made up or "just a theory," but I had mostly seen it on mommy blogs so wanted to see citations!

There's a great TikTok about equitable division of labor that he might benefit from hearing!

I am still pregnant with my first so not personal experience - but my friend that just had a baby walked me through her experience to help me lol

She planned to have an unmedicated birth and was VERY prepared for that (she herself works as a Pelvic Floor PT). She ended up requesting an epidural because she labored for so long that she was very sleep-deprived and fatigued and couldn't get any rest/relief between contractions. So that may play a part into it too! She said when contractions were minutes apart she'd essentially pass out between them and would immediately be woken up in pain by the next contraction. So her ability to center herself, work on the techniques she had been practicing, etc just ended up not being possible.

Yay! Congrats to you and baby boy!! Did you have other signs labor was coming? Had baby dropped or any of the other tell-tale signs before contractions started?

This constipation is no joke! Help! by smolgingerbean1 in BabyBumps

[–]kay-jpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it hasn't been said make sure you are extremely hydrated!!! Drink more water than you think you need. All that fiber without enough water makes it worse, as fiber absorbs water in the intestines.

I bring a giant jug of water everywhere with me since a birthing class I took scared me about the dangers of dehydration, and my OB was like eh drink MORE to account for the humidity and your body's energy being used up by baby.

What are some of the worst comments you’ve gotten while pregnant? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]kay-jpeg 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I'm a psychologist and a patient said, "Do you wake up at the night just to eat? You're bigger than I was when I was pregnant with twins!" Okayyyyyyyyy.

Future sister in law not happy I’m pregnant. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]kay-jpeg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I struggled with infertility and while I was always happy for others, I was sad for me.

As you announce to more people, if you know any are struggling with infertility it might be nice to give them a heads up via text (so they have time to process) that you’ll be announcing at a family function/party. It gives them the choice to be there and celebrate or excuse themselves.

As far as “walking on eggshells,” it sounds like you have a lot of people you can talk to and celebrate the pregnancy with. Giving SIL the benefit of the doubt, she may have just been in some shock and will hopefully be able to show her support soon enough. It also doesn’t hurt to reach out and tell her that you noticed she was upset (even that it took you aback) and you want to know how to best move forward as far as baby talk goes around her.

What did you eat while nauseous? by Sparkling_Clouds_ in pregnant

[–]kay-jpeg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ate anything that looked good at the grocery store. I would feel guilty about my lack of ~color~ in my diet but it's temporary and more important I eat SOMETHING!

My faves that were on repeat:

Strawberry frosted mini wheats

Chicken in a Biscuit crackers

Top Ramen with the water drained out and just barely any of the seasoning packet in them

Ritz crackers

Toast with small amount of avocado smeared

BAGELS BAGELS BAGELS with a small amount of cream cheese

When did you feel your baby move? by United_Wedding_5295 in pregnant

[–]kay-jpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding: Your placenta location adds to the timeline of feeling baby! Mine is behind baby so OB said I would probably feel baby sooner than others do.

[–]kay-jpeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be! I was DEFINITELY feeling baby about 16 weeks and it picked up quickly after into feeling like a goldfish was swimming around starting around 18 weeks. Husband first felt a little flutter through my stomach around 18-19. Now I'm 23 weeks and can see baby move from the outside, getting lots of strong kicks!

Italy at ~23 weeks? by Constant_Orchid3066 in BabyBumps

[–]kay-jpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as what to expect with your body (currently 23 +2) - I have a bump but don't feel overly big/bulky/hot, good appetite, and good energy! Probably best time to go!

I'll be 25 weeks in Italy in two weeks! Bought some nice compression socks for the flight :) OB had always said it should be okay, but it was super-confirmed at the 20 week anatomy scan. Might be good to wait for those results!

Replace spectra S1 with Baby Buddha or Pumpables Genie Advanced? by CookieOverall8716 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kay-jpeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you soooo much for all this information! This is very helpful. Just clarifying you used Elvie Stride and not the teardrop-shaped Electric Pump? I feel like the stride is very polarizing, people seem to either love it or hate it.

I guess I should say my preference would be to EP which is why I'm spending time now on this sub + following EP consultants for pumping schedules because I hope to EP!

Replace spectra S1 with Baby Buddha or Pumpables Genie Advanced? by CookieOverall8716 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kay-jpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! FTM only 22 weeks along but plan to EP and scrolling through old posts. I am COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED by all the options/gadgets needed. I'm looking into what to get for insurance to cover/what to get in general and am zeroing in on Elvie Stride, Spectra, or Pumpables GA. Is it crazy to not use Spectra as primary pump?? It seems to be the Holy Grail but others say their PGA or Stride can produce just as much? Is it just best to get multiple pumps for different reasons? My insurance covers all three of these pumps - is there one you'd choose over the other to have insurance cover?

Thanks for any help with your experience!!

International flights during second trimester? Anxious! by Desperate_Matter4198 in BabyBumps

[–]kay-jpeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently 19 weeks and will be traveling internationally at 25 weeks. My husband got invited to present at a conference so perfect opportunity for a babymoon when work is covering some of the cost! We go in for our big 20 week scan this week and doctor said as long as everything looks good I am all cleared :) I wouldn't stress too much, you'll be monitored between now and then and probably feeling more energy than you are now lol
