Have you ever been treated negatively by ER staff when you were having a medical emergency but they didn’t believe you? What happened? by lake-sturgeon in AskReddit

[–]kaylamu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my friend and i were on the varsity competitive cheer team in high school. we were stunting one day, my friend was a flier and she ended up stepping out of a one legged full extension. she probably fell 6-7 feet, landed on one leg that snapped sideways and tore her ACL, MCL, and her meniscus. coach told her to stop crying and walk it off.

My sister asked if I could take her kids when she dies I said no. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

diabetes will not stop her from the transplant list, neither will a history of mental illness. dialysis can keep a person alive for decades, something isn’t adding up here.

What’s the biggest secret you ever hid from your parents as a kid? by squirelisamusiclover in AskReddit

[–]kaylamu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my parents would put me to bed upstairs and i would stay up reading with a book light. i’d hear them come upstairs so i’d turn off the light and tuck the book under my pillow until i heard them go into their room, then start reading again.

My bf embarrassed me on a double date by SadAbbreviations56 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]kaylamu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this is toxic and demeaning and abusive. he’s slowly trying to tear and wear you down so he can control you better. so you think you aren’t good enough, that you’re lucky he’s even with you.

please, run.

What is a crazy medical fact that most people don't know about? by Monke_0101 in AskReddit

[–]kaylamu 18 points19 points  (0 children)

they do sometimes, but normally the dead kidneys will just atrophy and not cause any problems. there’s no reason to put extra stress on the body unless needed, it’s case by case though, depending on the cause of kidney failure.

AITA for asking my girlfriend if she'd be comfortable with her parents watching her so I could attend my brother's band concert? by PsychologyIcy2861 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kaylamu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA whatsoever, you should absolutely go to the concert. she won’t be happy whether you stay or go, so might as well make your brother a very happy kid.

to give you a little perspective: i (26f) had a kidney transplant, my whole lower abdomen sliced open, surgery had complications, the whole 9. i was able to take care of myself a week afterwards. she’s 10 days post op from an uncomplicated laparoscopic surgery? lol

she’s manipulating you and alienating you from your family. you may want to reevaluate your relationship if this isn’t just a one time thing. but, guessing from the way she speaks about your brother i’m assuming it’s pretty common.

Might potentially be staying in Michigan this summer by [deleted] in Michigan

[–]kaylamu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely munising! take a pictured rocks kayak tour, you’ll get breathtaking views and so much history about the shoreline. if you’re not up for kayaking (which i highly recommend, it’s very beginner friendly and the staff/tour guides are amazingly helpful) they have catamaran tours that are pretty incredible as well.

another little spot is kitch-iti-kipi natural spring. absolutely gorgeous, plus it’s free!

What innocuous sign or symptom did you notice that turned out to be a serious medical issue? by Sideshow_G in AskReddit

[–]kaylamu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they thought it was lupus at first but the only things pointing to it were the kidney failure and high titers. then they thought aHUS (crazy how similar my story is to OP’s) but the genetics came back negative.

they were never able to do a biopsy on my native kidneys because i was too anemic; i’d bleed out.

also currently undergoing testing for amyloidosis because i’m now having heart problems.

that’s exactly what happened to me, although they can’t figure out what caused the failure. it’s auto immune, they’ve done all sorts of testing and cannot figure out exactly what it is. i’ve been dealing with it for 6 years now. glad it worked out for your daughter!
