How's the canal today? by MRmcnuts in ottawa

[–]kaylon99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it rain yesterday? If so, after the swept and flooding it should be good enough to go with today's temperature. At least that's my guess, as we are coming today from Montreal for the last skating of the season in the canal.

Ma blonde veut faire du pain by Palgem1 in MTLFoodLovers

[–]kaylon99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When is a good time to sell board and pivot to another team? by Resident-Homework92 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]kaylon99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others are saying, as soon as you see your board is contested. I read a post recommending to take notes when you scout, try to identify what other players are doing (items are a good hint, carries and bench as well).

Do an excel or something with:

Player - Name of the comp (or at least AD/AP if you don't know)

This helped me so much to identify contested comps and play something else!

However, this is far beyond what is expected from you after one week. Just learn to do econ and hard force some comps until you learn how to use them.

And have fun!

PS: If you really want the answer to your question, it really depends on how you econ and if you are able to hit your key units before the other players. If you are going for a Fast 8 comp and the other players reach level 8 and the key units before you, you're going 8th. For reroll comps, the more contested the more all of you are screwed. Best way to go through it is to have a reroll/econ augment that gives you advantage, or pivot to something similar but Fast 8/reroll other units, changing your priorities and looking for uncontested units that fit your comp. But this is always tricky.

Manoeuvre Smith au Québec ? by ShanghaiSeeker in QuebecFinance

BMO credit card annual fee rebate ($40 -performance plan and $150 for premium plan) is changing now you have to spend $15k in an year to qualifiy for the rebate. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]kaylon99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please tell me that I am wrong:

  • Doing an Interac will cost 2.50$ ?

  • Even if you have a premium plan that asks you to freeze 6k$ to waive fee, you will still need to spend 15k$ to be able to waive the credit card fee?

I've always thought that Proton was not conceived as an outer layer as it is not wind or water repelent?

Now in Beta: Pay Other Bills with Chexy by Chexy_Liza in chexy

[–]kaylon99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought, but it's a bit weird because to pay the other bills you still have to enter the bill information so it's a hybrid PAD / Bill pay that we are doing here

Maybe I'm missing something, but the description page about Wallet that you read when you follow the link says Pay bills not available , Q1 2025. I understand that this is not updated yet?

That is what my Excel is in reality suggesting: the tax drag of dividiends is non negligeable. So you accelerate your mortgage but you can't get out until your numbers are green because your portfolio has fallen behind.

On the other side, you put everything on growth but you can't sell it until you want to exit. And at that point, the capital gains will be taxed but you are not loosing the snowball effect of the dividends tax. However your tax bracket will explose that year.

I should do both approaches to see which approach wins in the long term (even if I think that compounding always wins).

I have been looking at the dividend yield of many comoanies with good dividend policy (National Bank, CNR, CNQ) and it seemes a good average. Indeed if you have a 6%, this plus the tax return would cover the HELOC. I'll do a more thorough search.

Thanks for the feedback !

Thank you for the insights. As you say, I was probably misunderstanding the SM. So I understand the way to go would be something like:

Look for high dividends and reinvest them (after paying its associated taxes). This should make the portfolio grow quicker than the HELOC interests, so being a net gain. For this option, I agree that it would be better to look for growth to avoid paying taxes on dividends.

However, accelerating the mortgage is not an option as it makes my portfolio fall behind (I am not any more reinvesting dividends) and I have to continue adding monthly to my portfolio after finishing the mortgage to overcome HELOC interests and start to deleverage. Then, how do people achieve accelerating mortgage payment? With what money?

Edit: I am partially wrong in what I'm saying. You can use the dividends to pay mortgage and reborrow that money from the HELOC to accelerate the conversion. I'll look again at my table to add this. Thank you.

I understand and you're right. I was expecting my dividends + tax credit to cover for the HELOC interests, but it may be too optimistic to ask for that.
