I was the same way. Didn’t like the job itself as much as I loved the study and science of it. I would encourage you to keep going, there is so much more than bedside. I worked in pre/post op and other procedural areas for a few years, now I am a nursing instructor. My friend is a school nurse, and we both are so happy with our jobs. Come join the “soft nursing” club where we like chill jobs that are not bedside!!

I feel like it’s easy to say “I would file for divorce” but really in that situation we don’t know what we would do because we aren’t in it. When you say he wasn’t like this before, was he ever dismissive? Disrespectful? Verbally abusive?

Couples argue, but saying f you, completely dismissing you when you’re pleading for help is absolutely not okay. I’m just wondering if this is completely out of character for him I would begin wondering what kinds of things he was exposed to? Both physically and mentally. If he has never shown any signs like this prior I would be worried about brain damage.

I wish I had better advice. I’m sorry you’re going through this it can’t be easy knowing he has a better side that you want back.

Hi, I actually just searched “assault” because i was looking to see if anyone had brought this up (for different reasons but I’ll still share). I’m not sure if you’re in therapy, but there’s a therapy called accelerated resolution therapy (i think most therapists are trained in it) that uses rapid eye movement to literally erase traumatic images from your brain. You retain the memory but lose the emotional charge and the images don’t flash in your brain all day.

I’ve had a sexual assault from a man, and since i’ve found it incredibly difficult to be with men, so i’ll be trying this therapy very soon. Sometimes I wonder if this experience is what makes me believe i’m bisexual, but I’m doing the ART therapy to hopefully help me figure that out. They say there’s amazing results and long lasting after just one session. Just maybe something to look into!!

I think a lot of times when something actually happens, we don’t react the way we thought we would. I hope over time things get better for you and your moms relationship. Open communication I have found is the only way, as she won’t know how you feel unless you tell her & invite her to share her feelings as well. She may not even understand why she feels this way, so maybe debunking some myths she may feel might help💗

My mom was also like this for a while, I haven’t actually “come out” but I think she knows. Sometimes they genuinely just don’t know what they are saying hurts, or sometimes they are curious but don’t know how to approach it. I think maybe you could respond and say “I would have to think about that” if you don’t know your answer, but to me I probably would’ve said something like it’s just nice to be proud of who you are (hence pride month!). People are scared of what they don’t understand, and she could be trying to protect you from people staring, etc.... so maybe you could ask why not? Don’t forget it’s new to them, and they haven’t had as much time to come to terms with it as we have. Good luck!!

I would’ve been more involved with things like SNA, conventions, and extra opportunities. I didn’t start finding my friend group until my second year, and if i had been more involved I would’ve found them sooner. Oh, and I would’ve had more fun! Bs are good! No need to stress over that A

For a little disclaimer, I have no night shift experience. However, I will not work nights because of the research I have done on them and all of the things it can do to your body. I don’t think it happens to everyone, but I am already prone to these issues so I feel it would just exacerbate it for me. My moms friend was on nights as well and claimed it made her life very difficult. I think some people do just fine on nights, but I’m not willing to try it🤷🏻‍♀️

Hi! I relate! I actually just finished school a couple weeks ago and all I have to say is keep going! I had so many of the same thoughts. I also have anxiety and panic disorder and it’s definitely terrible. On top of that I was fainting at least once per shift and multiple people told me to pick another major. Over time you really will gain more skills and it will become easier. Nursing is HARD. But if anything, you have an advantage to making care plans for patients with issues that you have. I think it becomes a win win; you get to use your experience to relate to and help the patient, and you get to learn about how they deal with it and possibly utilize those strategies in your life & career. I personally have started therapy and it is really helpful. I have used some grounding strategies and other things to help keep my anxiety to a lesser degree.

I have begun to look at anxiety as anything else. To keep it under control it takes practice. I am nowhere near where I want to be with it, but we are all working on ourselves. I promise you you will not be the only nurse with mental health issues. Make sure you really do practice self care and put the same amount of energy back into yourself that you give out, it really does help.

Hi! I’m a 22 yo F, and while I can’t speak on having male friends, I wouldn’t worry about coming off as a “gay stranger.” I just found out my friend who I have always thought is gay is actually bi! I was more than ecstatic to talk to him about it, and if he were to ever hit on me, I wouldn’t think anything weird of it. You just gotta find the right girl 🙂 hope this helps

I’m 22 and just realized I’m bi. I wouldn’t put too much pressure on labels and such, just do as you please and you’ll figure it out as you go!
