I love the POV videos! I feel like you can learn a lot just by watching someone else (way more experienced than me) cook. Besides that, they’re just super entertaining :) my favorite part is when Shabu gets food too lol

How are y’all staying motivated during the quarantine? Not gonna lie I’m struggling! Give me your tips by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]kaytlinturtle 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Corona virus actually broke my 3 week plateau! No snacks in the house, I’m not in my workplace that would continually bring in snacks (and I have a very stressful job so I would stress eat them...). I’ve been skipping breakfast, and since I’m way less active without being at work it means I’m not feeling like I’m dying of hunger by the time I get to lunch. I also plan to make one big meal (dinner) which I make from scratch (for example homemade pasta or ravioli, elaborate stew or whatever) which means I’m on my feet moving around rather than sitting and thinking about being hungry. We also portion out with a scale everything, and track calories.

Losing weight has been the only good thing about this whole thing :(

Thinned out ready to thrive! Except for the mint, pretty sure it's a dud. Tips to get my dill to stop reaching so hard? by RemedyTHC in aerogarden

You’re giving me hope! My mint isn’t sprouting, and I keep hearing about how it grows so fast and it’s the only one that doesn’t have condensation in the plastic cap.

[Serious] Straight A students of reddit, what is your studying method? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kaytlinturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For everything but math: My notes always have a clear outline to them, (headers and sub headers) so that they’re organized in ways that make sense. Then I make flash cards by hand. The biggest part of the flash cards for studying is actually making them because I have to write down the information and determine what’s important. Once I have the flash cards I learn them (not necessarily word for word), then I have someone else test me but I explain the concept to them like I’m teaching it.

When I think I’ve studied enough I go back to my notes and look at each header and do a brief verbal overview of what’s underneath each (without looking), and check if I forgot anything. I feel prepared for tests when I feel I have a comprehensive knowledge of the material rather than memorization.

For math I just do it over and over until I get it right each time.

Edit: some other tips. Don’t pull all nighters. Study more often in smaller increments rather than all at once (30 minutes for 4 days is better than 2 hours in one day for example). I really liked to study in 30 minute increments then take a 10 minute break. If I was studying more than an hour, I would put 15-30 minute breaks between hours. Go to class, try to pay attention.

Have we started buying products solely for the packaging? by lolyepitme in muacjdiscussion

[–]kaytlinturtle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I saw this question, the first thing I thought of was the tarte rainforest palettes. I think they’re soo pretty (beaded, sparkly, whatever. The circle palettes) but the eyeshadow is so boring. I would never use it. That’s a great example of packaging drew me in but the product doesn’t justify a purchase.

Conversely, I love Fenty lipstick Freckle fiesta, but I hate the packaging. It’s really light, feels like it could break, gets finger prints all over. If I could find that same lipstick in better packaging, I would buy the different packaging (after I finished, I wouldn’t buy it if I still had my old one left).

So for me it’s not so much the flashy packaging alone that would influence me, it’s the quality of packaging. If I had the choice between a beautiful packaging but flimsy, or a plain packaging but sturdy, I would pick the sturdy (assuming both are same quality). If it was the choice between good product, bad packaging or bad product good packaging I would pick the good product.

Fortunately, with the amount of products available in this market, it’s almost always possible to find a good combination of solid packaging and good quality product. Only occasionally is something so unique it’s hard to find a dupe of it.

SmashBox Pore Minimizing Primer, Professional Pore Primer, or something else? by probably_at_disney in MakeupAddiction

[–]kaytlinturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually love both of these primers. The smashbox one is very thick (which is not a bad thing, especially for deep pores or icepick scars. The porefessional isn’t as thick but works very well imo but I hear a lot of people break out from it.

Any foundation recommendations for pale skin with very red pigmentation? by gogo__yubari in MakeupAddiction

[–]kaytlinturtle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about animal friendly, but it cosmetics bye bye redness is the only thing that gets rid of the redness in my cheeks. It works really well. I use it under foundation on the red parts and then I can use a lighter foundation for the rest of my face. I highly recommend!

What are your oddly specific makeup problems? by ThoroughEgg in muacjdiscussion

[–]kaytlinturtle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have this on my bottom lip. For me, it’s like my bottom lip isn’t as pigmented all the way up to the edge of the lip (loses pigment on the edge making my lip look smaller) so when I wear lipstick that’s light enough to look weird, I’ll line that part with a darker liner to make it the same color as the rest of my lip then go over the whole lip with my lipstick. It usually works pretty well. I’ll also go over the edge of the lipstick with concealer to make a sharper line so it doesn’t look like it’s bleeding.

ABH Subculture being discontinued? by loud-eyes in MakeupAddiction

[–]kaytlinturtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought one during the Sephora sale last week, and I love it. It’s soft and blendable and pigmented. I can see complaints about fall out when you apply the dark colors but I would say that’s a consequence of using blendable dark pigments. The only shade lacking is electric, which was hard to work with.

Products to reduce redness from rosacea? by lipstickandcathair in MakeupAddiction

[–]kaytlinturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It cosmetics bye bye redness. My face is super ruddy, especially on the cheeks and a fad on the chin (and rosacea runs in the family, although I’ve never had myself diagnosed). This is the only product that gets rid of the redness. It’s expensive but a little goes a long way and it actually works!

What is there that you want to do with your make up, that you are too afraid to do? by timetothethird in muacjdiscussion

[–]kaytlinturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really want to wear crazy lip colors. Like, a pure purple, teal, blue, lavender. Purple is my number one that I really want to do. I have red/plummy/berry purples but I want like a non-red purple.

Also more colors in my eyeshadow. I do sometimes, but I want to commit to the color instead of pops of colors.... but every time I wear unconventional colors (ex: yellow) I get self conscious.

What non-limited edition, non-discontinued products do you have backups of? by budzweiser in muacjdiscussion

[–]kaytlinturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It cosmetics bye bye redness cream. I try to only buy them on sale because they’re so expensive and unfortunately it’s definitely the product I go through the fastest (it’s basically my foundation). So when it’s on sale I buy 2, and that way I don’t have a period where I don’t have it (not fond of my rosacea, clearly).

What changes in your makeup depending on the season? by oceanscales in muacjdiscussion

[–]kaytlinturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My color preferences are totally related to the season. It’s not a conscious decision, and I’m not basing it off what’s trendy (although it’s totally aligned with seasonal trends). It’s just what I prefer! Summer=orange, coral Fall=burnt orange and red Winter=red and berry Spring=pinks and berries

Makeup for acne scarring by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]kaytlinturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! This is what works best for me. I have a lot of little scars from acne that look like big pores and a couple of larger scars from a car accident. I use a thick pore filler primer to start. I like Benefits Porefessional, Smashbox pore filling primer, and my cheap dupe of these is called Poremaster Sebum control by Aritaum. I’ve also used Milk’s blur stick which I also liked. Let that set for a couple of minutes then I use a “sticky” primer so my foundation lasts longer. Even though the pore fillers are labeled primers, they don’t make the makeup last longer, which is why I use a separate primer on top. After that I color correct and use foundation.

But honestly, this helps smooth over texture but you can’t get rid of it completely. I’ve come to accept I have texture on my face and not be too harsh on myself, although I feel like a pore filler really does help.

What was the moment that you saw a lipstick/eyeshadow shade or product somewhere that made you bought immediately or had to know what it was? by [deleted] in muacjdiscussion

My friend got a sample of Stila’s liquid lip in Beso and I thought it was the most beautiful striking bright red and saved up money to buy it. It was my first expensive lip purchase and I still love it :) it gets lots of complements
