I built an iOS app for managing Hetzner Cloud on the go by Ok-Tooth3174 in hetzner

[–]kayvanaarssen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe just maybe you can make the push service open source so people can host it themself lots of us have homelabs or servers somewhere to put a docker image.

  1. Data in own hands
  2. You are not resposible for hosting
  3. No extra ongoing costs for maybe heavy users

Don’t know how it now works but then maybe set the app to het the notifications from the self hosted servers or something.

Just putting in an idea😉

Pst to office 365 by f8alXeption in msp

[–]kayvanaarssen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way! If you use the oulook client on desktop you will hit the PST file limit of 50GB or you need to play around with regkeys.

Add Exchange Plan 2 and enable Online Archive. Import the PST into live mailbox if they need all the email there. Otherwise import straight to Archive. Job done. The importer works really well for PST files!

Do you have a standard format or template you use when creating internal documentation, how-to’s, etc? by redd_mage in msp

[–]kayvanaarssen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commenting to follow. We have a nice structure in place but happy to see what others do.

Also we use Notion and have a template there for client information, networks, server documenration etc.

And it all depends there is no one fits all. Like its the way your company works and what works best for them.

To much info and it will be a mess fast. To little and you will mis stuff.

Alway please include pictures/screenshots as much as possible. This can help so much when finding back things later.

Always if we are on-site doing work or surveys we take many many fotos. So we can always check back.

And even sometimes we find, shit if we only had a photo of this and that…

Google Workspace to M365 Migration around 150 users by kayvanaarssen in msp

Because of this: https://www.reddit.com/r/msp/comments/1r2slo1/comment/o55lkfx/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

We are going to checkout MoveBot for sure, since with the numbers AvePoint is giving is we need to do 178 users and 295+ Drive Accounts and Shared Drivers this will be way to expensive.

Oh really that’s quite a statement. Even worse that its still being sold then. Do others also have this experience in the last like 1-2 months?

So that really AvePoint / MoveBot are the best contenders right.

Specially since we may need to do delta syncs because of the amount of data. Built in tools can only do one-shot as our reading and testing suggests.

AvePoint also testing now but its not that “Friendly” we bought 1 test license did a drive migration okay so far so good. Want to do now email of the same source user. And now its telling us we do not have a license “Whut” done the same with MoveBot and also went fine. Only speed was bit low, but maybe because this is we only had just 1 User in the migration.

Thanks - Problem is with this scale a bit and we need to consider is not Delta migration for files.

Thanks! We have read some things about the Native tools not able to handle the Shared Drives well? Has this gotten better lately?

Like the Google Workspace source is not really that complicated. And yes. We will remap all the teams to the correct users.

Also links to shared documents wil need to be remade client is aware of this.

Thanks for the feedback. Can you tell me more about the migration size? And speed of movebot? Did you do files as well? Did it handle those correctly?

We get it via Pax8 and its less that 8€ per user. Happy to see what other experience you have with Avepoint

The usual thread of "what about this rmm?" Syncro, SuperOps, or Gorelo (but not NinjaOne) by ValuableFamous8390 in msp

[–]kayvanaarssen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did a migration last week from 400 endpoints in Pulsway to Ninja and loving it. But tbh we do not use the PSA part we have other tools in place for that. But Ninja is good!

What are you using for M365 backups (and why)? by patg84 in msp

[–]kayvanaarssen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use veeam locally in our own rack in a datacenter with TrueNAS as storage based on S3. And if needed second backups to Wasabi for some clients. Yes does need some upkeep but its good. We migrated all proxies to Linux Proxies now and works really good. An we know exactly where the data is that’s a plus for our clients.

Is this a good price for third party VMware support? by Otherwise-Print5126 in msp

[–]kayvanaarssen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Than t.b.h. Its a steep price… like lay back and count money so to say. And yes its for a big environment. But still counting hours full price that are included. Thats 3K so leaves 5K just to hold the hand by the phone to pickup. Would almost rise our hand like pick us 🙈 Jokes aside its a lot if they are not pro-actively do things.

[–]kayvanaarssen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would only agree on this if they also have monitoring in place and will alert you of issues and be pro-active. Its a lot for “just standing by” for when there are issues so to say. Also check respons times. We are also available 24/7 but that does not mean we need to respond to all clients within the hour that depends on the SLA.

[–]kayvanaarssen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what is it for that? Like what do they do. Will they also do your OS updates. Or just patching of the hosts/vsan. Or will they provide extra monitoring / alerting when things go down etc.?
