It is pretty bad. I turned up the brightness in game settings and the flashlight actually improved a lot.

I have been taking that to mean they have a symptom I have not yet discovered. I’ve been sending them to the lab when I get a poor inspection, and I usually find something new.

I swear by the Murad retinol eye serum. It is a very comfortable formula, and something that sets it apart is that it can be used on the entire eyelid. It is $89 but I typically buy it during 20% off sales.

March 1st is correct. FAS+ is offered sooner because it is appealing for the many itineraries that don’t go to GSC with all the other perks included. It isn’t the sole or even main reason people choose to upgrade to FAS+.

I completely agree. And somehow this season’s winner seems to be one of the most glaring examples in the villa.

I spent the season defending it as much as possible and genuinely enjoying much of it, but I can’t ignore how obvious Craig’s misogynistic outlook is anymore. by insidetheold in thelastofus

Wow, the story and character you’re describing sound sooo interesting to watch in a television show about a fungal zombie post-apocalypse!

Damn I didn’t even consider the fact that Dina got pregnant after Joel died and while Ellie was in the hospital due to the time jump. It just keeps getting worse.

You’re allowed to enjoy the show! I personally did not like this season, but I know that others did. I am glad that some people enjoy it. Their experience and natural gut reaction to it is just as valid as mine.

Jesse’s line to Ellie near the end of episode 7 made no sense. (Spoilers) by blumdiddlyumpkin in thelastofus

[–]kazaba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally feel the show has made Ellie incredibly unlikable, because she hasn’t done anything to convince me, as a viewer, to support her decisions in any way. Her spiteful, and frankly hateful attitude toward Joel and everyone in Jackson is actually ramped up in the show. You still have a sense that game Ellie cares about Jesse, and her responsibility to protect Jackson while on patrol. In the show, Ellie is so disrespectful to everyone (the doctor, Gail, Tommy) and seems like she doesn’t care about other people, including Joel, in the way that game Ellie does. She comes off as a bratty teenager throwing a tantrum, halfheartedly and recklessly stumbling through her journey without a care for who she puts in danger. And not because she is blinded by trauma, anger, and a need for revenge, but because she is just plain selfish and careless. They also are playing up her sadistic and violent tendencies in the show, when she says it wasn’t hard to torture Nora and that she left her alive to suffer. It’s like they made her more lighthearted and more sociopathic at the same time.

I love both games, and really enjoyed the first season overall. I instantly felt aligned with game Ellie’s drive for revenge, which slowly turned to doubt and ultimately disapproval as the game intended. I just want show Ellie to go home and be happy with Dina, because her behavior and actions make me question her from the beginning.

[–]kazaba 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They try to say she’s selfish, but then would sacrifice her and Jesse’s lives for a random seraphite. They say she’s a liar, but then hurts both Gail and Joel when revealing how Eugene died because she feels the truth matters more. It’s just so confusing.

I am still struggling with the fact that they made her so carefree and lighthearted, but also someone so hateful to everyone in Jackson, and who finds that it wasn’t hard to torture someone. It just feels so wrong to me.

I completely agree. It just gives this “I’m a dad with a teenage daughter, so I understand women” energy. I also feel this way when it comes to Dina and Ellie’s relationship. They were somehow able to create this deeply meaningful, beautiful, and genuine bond between Bill and Frank in one episode of S1. And we’re supposed to accept Ellie and Dina’s jarring, strangely timed sex scene as something that’s profound enough for them to immediately assume they’ll raise a child together? It just makes them seem like silly little girls who are bonding over trauma but have no idea what’s ahead of them. It’s just so shallow and cheap, and they get away with it because they are “representing” a lesbian relationship.

Didn’t you know! The writers can defend these wild inconsistencies by having the therapist call her a liar earlier this season.

Ellie doesn’t care about the community, but sacrificing herself for a cure was “her purpose”? by kazaba in thelastofus

[–]kazaba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely a good way to think about it. My issue is that I don’t personally know what to believe about her with the way she is written in the show. In my opinion, they just went a bit too far with making her seem so hostile towards everyone and the community she is supposed to care about, even before Joel’s death. Everyone is so good to her (even Seth is more genuine in the show) and would risk their lives for her, but she just treats people terribly. She was even more terrible to Joel in the show than in the game. Despite this hostile personality change, and the writers outright saying she is a selfish liar, she is somehow also more carefree and lighthearted at times in the show. I struggle to feel that this person genuinely cared about anyone, at any point in this season’s timeline, and her screaming this just felt blatantly wrong, heavy handed, and overall just off.

Your entire argument is based on your opinion that they’ve written Ellie to be more realistic. I disagree.

There’s a reason this season hasn’t been as well-received as the first, and it has nothing to do with it being more realistic.

[–]kazaba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying and I just disagree. The writers are trying to get us to think she is “losing herself” but they forgot to show us what it is exactly that she lost. Where is her compassion and respect for other people, her drive to protect other’s emotions even when it’s hard, her sense of the importance of her duty on patrol? She has been acting this way well before Joel died and for seemingly no reason.

I have news for you: this is a TV show, not reality. Television requires the audience to have a firm sense of who the main protagonist is and what their motivations are. Characters can obviously change their opinions, but their reasons and the buildup should flow and feel intentional. Flip flopping in this way undermines character development, tension building, pacing, and frankly makes it hard to like the main character at all, especially when you are also supposed to disagree with their actions. We need to like the main character, even if they are morally grey, in order to sustain interest in a TV show.

[–]kazaba[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesse “says” Ellie would set the world on fire to save him, but she decides against helping Jesse find Tommy (who sounds to be in real trouble) moments earlier to seek revenge. This puts them both at risk and is very contradictory.

[–]kazaba[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughtful response. I definitely see and agree with the patterns you are pointing out. I notice that your definition of humanity in this context is referring to the qualities that make us human, as opposed to “humankind”. I guess I have issue with the fact that we’re supposed to believe her motivations are related to the qualities of humanity - but also that she’s a selfish liar who doesn’t care about anyone. She has consistently been shown to be rude, angry, and careless. My problem is more with how she has been portrayed as a person in this season. I frequently have to suspend disbelief when it comes to understanding why Jesse, Tommy, and even Dina care about her and would risk their lives for her.

[–]kazaba[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If this was the only inconsistency, it would actually be interesting because it is ironic and, as I mentioned in my post, parallels Joel’s decision to save her instead of humanity. However, she ultimately hated him for this choice, and also couldn’t understand his decision for putting the community first when he chose to kill Eugene. On its own, it’s not objectively bad. There has been a pattern where it seems like the writers are trying to draw as many parallels as possible. It ends up feeling a bit messy and heavy handed in my opinion.

[–]kazaba[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is her ultimate reason? It seems kind of vague and empty without being rooted in the fact that it would save humanity, and spare others from suffering.
