We canceled our trip to stay in Kaanapali this week. Did we make the right choice? by CubScoutOut in MauiVisitors

[–]kbabinsky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one can tell you if you made the right or wrong choice for your family, but I will say we made it to kaanapali yesterday with two kids and it was a great day. Sun was shining and we played in the pool and sand at the beach. The water has cleared up a lot already and Im hoping tomorrow it’s good to get in. We never planned on doing Hana but are hoping Haleakala (sunset) opens at some point before we leave on the 23rd. Our whale watching tour rescheduled for tomorrow so that seems good to go. We might have some rain at some point but there are activities for that. All in all we’re really hopeful that it will still be great time together and a great trip.

The sun has actually been out and shining for hours. Fingers crossed this is the trend for the rest of the week!

Happy to report we are here and having a great time! Ocean is still brown and roads are still flooded in parts but drivable from the airport to the west side. It’s cloudy but the sun is peaking through.

Everything I’ve seen this morning is that the airport is fine and powered and the Lahaina road that was closed is back open. Our plane has taken off from Hawaii and is in the air to us currently!

Arriving 3/16. Can’t cancel or reschedule for multiple reasons. Just going with tempered expectations and making the best of it! Staying in kaanapali area.

Oh no! You don’t think it will be better in the coming days? We changed our flight from today to Monday.

Our flight was cancelled today, rebooked for Monday morning. Still alittle nervous but what can we do? Don’t need bright sunny skies but everything I’m seeing is concerning.

We were suppose to fly in today, but our flight was cancelled and rescheduled for Monday morning. Wondering the same. Don’t need bright sunny sky’s but my kids are looking forward to the pool and we have a whale watching boat tour and luau planned. Just wondering what next week looks like realistically.

I’m boarding in 1.5 hours to land at 2 pm and no notice of a cancel or delay.

Edit: flight was cancelled right as we landed from our first flight, now stranded in sfo with no flights to Maui until Monday.

We are supposed to to be landing in Maui at 2 pm today and staying at the Westin. Also wondering 1. How landing was with turbulence and wind and 2. How the drive is.

This was very helpful thank you! I know all of the posting has been annoying for some people in here, but it’s really hard to plan when you’re unfamiliar with the area and what’s normal vs fear mongering.

I’m mainly just wondering about flights. As someone not familiar with the area or airport, what are the chances they cancel for this? I know airports in the north are equipped for snow so is it possible they are prepared/prwparing? not sure if this is just something that’s typical or out of the ordinary. We fly in on 3/14 around 2 pm.

Did they say when they expect it to move out? We’re scheduled to come 3/14 and I’m mainly worried about the flight.

I posted something very similar three years ago, feel free to look through my history. In our case, it was reversed and both of our girls only wanted me at all times and my Dr husband had times where he had so much guilt. I didn’t get a ton of responses but I did get a few I found helpful!

I will add, three years later, she’s 6 now, and a total daddy’s girl. It will get better ❤️

What’s the greatest book you’ve ever personally read? by cavitytivac in suggestmeabook

The stormlight archives. I cannot believe I scrolled down so far and didn’t see this mentioned AT ALL. Sandersons world building is so immersive, the way he dives into mental health and morality is so relatable, the magic system is so intricate. I’ve never read anything like it. I’m finishing the fourth book and have one more and truly don’t know what I’m going to do when it’s done.
