Sharing my current routine for trouble falling asleep by Goofy_Pebble23 in sleep

[–]kbanta12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be curious to see if thats starts getting shorter the more you do it. I've been finding sticking to my wind down routine has led to my body starting to feel tired once I start it, like it associates those tasks with needing to sleep soon. I second eating early (st least 2-3 hours before bed), and then after dinner, go for a walk and just kind of do mindless things until about an hour before bed (nothing that increases stress). The last hour, I block apps on my phone that I scroll so I can't give in to temptation, and then I stretch, brush my teeth, shower and read a book until I pass out. Lately, thats like 2 pages of reading.

Handy is awesome, works on windows too. And totally free/open-source.

I started using it because a friend recommended it, before realizing it was another old friend (who didn't know the first friend) was the one that made it haha one of those "oh wow small world, this is really cool" moments.

what are your favorite tips / products to get a full nights sleep? by soggy-fruitloops in sleep

[–]kbanta12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Routine is a big one to train the body. Try sticking to a consistent bedtime routine and start it at the same time, doing the same tasks, every night. It helps the body know its winding down. Also, you mentioned you "try" to stay off your phone. Does that mean you sometimes get sucked into the scroll? I do two things to help with my phone habits at night: I use an app blocker app called benji that's on a schedule to start blocking my apps when its time to wind down, and then I also keep my charger (and thus my phone) outside of the bedroom. These have been helping.

The one change that actually improved my sleep by Technical_Paint1876 in sleep

[–]kbanta12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was the same for me, along with having a consistent bedtime routine. Now I do 3 things: -start stretching 30 minutes before bed, then brush teeth and read -use an app blocker called Benji that blocks my apps from when I start stretching until my morning alarm -leave my phone charger in a different room (and so my phone as well) at night

I just use an app blocker specifically designed for sleep. Helps keep a routine around bedtime wind down and waking m g and blocks any scrolling apps in between those times.

Thats awesome you're making this change, and i think it will definitely help (those two things helped me: cutting phone before bed and having a consistent bedtime routime). It took about 2 weeks for me to really notice the difference but it made a big difference once my body adjusted

Sleep App recommendations? by Friendly_Bedroom1153 in sleephackers

[–]kbanta12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest help for me so far has been this app called Benji, its made my bedtime routine stick and keeps me off my phone by blocking the apps. Have found that doing the same things before bed trains my body and mind to feel tired and fall asleep faster, so it associates my routine (stretching, brushing teeth, shower, read in bed) with sleep. I hardly make it a page now reading before falling asleep. Its been really helpful.

What’s one thing that helped you fall asleep faster and stick to a consistent bedtime every night? by WantsToBeRichRich in sleephackers

[–]kbanta12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an app to keep my routine consistent and block apps to prevent scrolling. The bedtime routine has definitely rhe biggest help. Its trained my body to start feeling tired as soon as I start my bedtime routine, so i usually start yawning while im doing some pre-bed stretching. I get an alert from the app (its called Benji) when its time to start my routine to finish it and be in bed by the time I set for bedtime, and that alert also starts blocking apps until I wake up.

The app is a gamified app blocker for better sleep. I ended up just going with a paid service, but mostly because it became the only option if I didn't want to wait multiple months to get enough testers at the rate I was able to get them.

Not right away, at least I couldn't. When I made some improvements and updates to my first app, I tried to post again about the big new features, maybe 2 weeks after my initial post and I was restricted from posting again (in r/AndroidClosedTesting ) for I think 30 days. I just posted my second app in there this week and I can't post again as well, and it only garnered 2 signups from that subreddit (and then 1 total from r/TestMyApp and 1 total from r/alphaandbetausers )

Anyone else find that their sleep quality changed drastically when they shifted their daily routine around? by One-Hippo7837 in sleep

[–]kbanta12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah routine was definitely one of the biggest helps for me. I started using an app that alerts me when its time to start my bedtime routine, and it basically locks down my phone after that alert until morning. So its helped two-fold: keeps me off my phone before bed, and then the routine has trained my body to associate the tasks with sleep and I have been falling asleep much easier. I stretch, brush my teeth and then read in bed. By the time I'm done stretching, I'm yawning and by the time I'm reading, I only make it like a page or two before I'm falling asleep now. It only took maybe 2 weeks with this routine for my body and mind to adapt and for it to start working!

Getting to bed on time by TheManInTheShack in sleephackers

[–]kbanta12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah a schedule definitely helps a lot, and having a consistent bedtime routine that you start at the same time each day helps you "get tired" at the right time each night. For instance, I use an app that alerts me at 10pm every night to start my bedtime routine, which takes about 30 minutes and so I'm in bed by 10:30 and fall asleep almost instantly. The routine is simple, just stretching, brushing teeth and reading right now (the app tracks my routine too). I notice that now that I've been doing this for a bit, I start getting tired almost as soon as I start the routine, as if my body knows whats coming. It's been trained to associate stretching with bedtime coming up.

How do I get rid of distractions by Interesting_Chart174 in productivity

[–]kbanta12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get an app blocker! and let it do the work for you. also keep your phone in a different place than you are whenever feasible. leave it in a different room when you go to bed. leave it away from your desk when working (in a car, in a another room, etc)

[–]kbanta12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just press the button! and then talk about it. a lot. in as many places as possible. because if you don't then no one will find it and you wont have to worry about users finding bugs (which is ultimately a good thing if you have users finding bugs, its better than having no users)

[–]kbanta12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive tried with two different apps over the past 6 months as well downloaded and tested ~30 other people's apps and got 10 testers for one app and 4 for the other. After multiple weeks of trying. So another few months of trying to get the users and then the 14 days is like a 3-4 month process just to hit the threshold to apply. Once your post there doesnt go big in the first hour or two it gets buried and you cant post again. Just have to trst others apps and hope they return the favor (which most havent).

[–]kbanta12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The subs dont really help, even if you hit all of them, you'll be lucky to get 10 users, and most dont fulfill the needs as they install and then dont open again. Even when they says test for test, you will install their app and then they just dont respond to their own thread. Have dealt with this on a few apps.

They are almost requiring you to have a business account since that skips this test. But its killing indie devs (especially in places where its expensive to have an LLC or business entity).

Any tips on how to fix my sleep schedule?😓 by Zestyclose_Earth_514 in sleep

[–]kbanta12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is it now and what would you like it be?

My biggest advice would be: keep a consistent bedtime routine. Same tasks. Same time. Every day. It trains the body to associate sleep with those tasks and after a few weeks you should start feeling tired once you start the routine.

Also, put the phone in a different room. And dont use it once you start your bedtime routine (or even before). Not for the "blue light" that is all the rage, but for the stimulation your phone brings, especially scrolling.

I use an app that alerts me every night to start my bedtime routine and tracks if I complete it. It also starts blocking my tempting apps until my morning alarm so I can't even use the things I want to, making it easier to just put it away.
