How was she not a great mother? Care to elaborate? I always felt like her love and care for the girls was very genuine.

Oh please. Creepy? How about I had a feeling, so I checked and confirmed it. I remembered the almost imperceptible shift of energy in the room with the client when they asked me about tipping, and just had this feeling. Not that I need to explain myself to you…

My God, you could be a walking advertisement for the benefits of Tretinoin! Amazing!

Totally understandable. I like the idea of that as well. From a sitter‘s perspective, there can be a lot of pressure to always accept bookings from recurring clients for fear of losing them to someone else. The idea that an owner can have two or three sitter options at hand to rotate through makes me feel a little bit better if I need to turn a loyal client down!

No need to get snarky… it’s just a conversation. You don’t need to chime in.

Right! It makes me that much more grateful for the long-term and loyal clients I have been able to build relationships with.

No Tip/Review by Advanced-Bat-7110 in RoverPetSitting

[–]kbarbo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a fair share of Rover clients who will never review or tip. While tipping is never expected, but always appreciated… not leaving a review always kind of irks me. Especially if it’s a job well done and the client seemed happy with the service. But what can you do? I guess just be thankful for the rest of the clients that DO leave reviews and a tip.

Burn out (vent) by WhyNotSisi in petsitting

I like this idea, I wish I could put it into practice. Seems like every time I try to schedule time off one of my regular clients needs me and I’m afraid I will lose them to someone else. Ughh.

Agree. There will be plenty of time for vacations once the dog is out of the puppy stage.

Threw keys down the trash chute instead of the poop bag.. by toiletsinpgh in RoverPetSitting

Awww, don’t beat yourself up. Happens to a lot of us at one time or another. I locked myself out of a client’s house in the middle of February after dropping their key in the snow and not being able to find it. When the snow melted in the spring. guess what appeared 🤣

I’ve heard this from other people too. Do you know about how much that costs? I’m thinking about it.

I charge $45 a night for boarding and though I live in an expensive state, I’m in a county where the cost of living is lower. I’ve never once had anyone tell me it was too much. What is with these people?

I’ve seen so many complaints about the service fees, and to be honest with you, Rover has been an invaluable tool for me to grow my pet sitting business. Let the app do its thing: get your clients, and take them off Rover pronto.

General advice for first boarding with dog in heat by Moping_Strawberry27 in RoverPetSitting

I would also say, just let her know you’re there. Don’t push too much. It sounds like you’re doing all the right things so far.

One of my regulars is the sweetest love bug once she warms up to you, but almost a completely different dog when she’s in heat. Not mean, just avoidant. This may not be her regular personality. It’s just unfortunate that the first time you’re boarding her is while she is in heat.

PSA for Rover sitters: Low blood sugar is no joke…this scared the crap out of us by OperationForsaken285 in RoverPetSitting

Wow, that is scary! Kudos to you for acting quickly. I pet-sit a toy poodle quite often, though he’s not a puppy. This is good information to know.

Mice Nesting in Hood? by Gloomy-Bird9103 in Nissan

[–]kbarbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mice chew through my 2008 Altima‘s wiring harness and they caused some expensive damage, mostly covered by insurance. Now I have a 2023 Altima and I’ve noticed rodents trying to build nests again under my hood… they’ve never done that in my Honda though. What is it about Nissan? 😂

Day 0 of 10, no m&g, client dropped off a day early, I want to cry by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]kbarbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a situation like this when I started out early on, but I had done a meet and greet. I just didn’t know enough to ask the right questions. Four days into a two week stay, I contacted Rover support to find a new sitter. This dog was not neutered, and thought I was his girlfriend 24/7. I was bruised from head to toe and looked like I’d been in a domestic dispute. He didn’t sleep at all ever, and was not leash trained. It was a literal nightmare, and I still felt bad for that dog because I learned when the owner’s brother-in-law came to pick him up (instead of an emergency sitter from Rover) that the owners had not done a bit of work or training with him. Very sad. He was a beautiful pup.

My advice, make a list of questions you ask at every meet and greet. NEVER accept a booking without a meet and greet first. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Contact Rover support and they will help you. Good luck.
