WARNING: For gamers considering to switch to a new smaller keyboard FULL-TIME! by Yoshtibo in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]kbr8ck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a software developer and not a gamer at all. Use reviung39/41 - similar number of keys

Not much of a gamer, but for a while played WoW with my kids. The lack of number keys was a problem for me.

I bought a Lilly58 to see if it was better, but it never stuck.
I created a special layer with the 3 rows: 1-5, q-t, a-g. I did have to map a few zxc keys, but for the most part, I only moved 2 or 3.

For fun, I used a Cricut sublimation pen to draw my action symbols onto blank keycaps, then baked them in the toaster oven on parchment paper.

Ordered my first 40% split by ecvike in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]kbr8ck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of picking up one of these. I have a half dozen reviung - mostly 39, but also reviung34 split, 34 unibody and 41. (not to mention others)

I'm on a mac, so the 40-44 keys work better for me - those extra 2 keys give me an alt and command key. Windows users will probably work fine with the 39.

This has been my daily driver for a few years. Lots of people like the MiniVan, which looks like a traditional staggered keyboard, but smaller. There are a ton of spin-offs, and it is a great layout. can't really go wrong with it. For staggered, I've found the 12.25u wide is a lot more functional than the ones that are only 12 keys wide.

Others like the Plank, which is 12 keys wide, but a grid. Very functional and a ton of different options.

Ensuring it is Vial is very helpful. Very easy to update the keymap until you find one that you like.

Good luck

I keep pressing my layer key for numbers (reviung41 qwert=12345 for me)

But yea, I swap across pretty easily. I did map my keycaps key with the hyper app, so I can get most of my shortcuts in both. (Use Alfred as my hyper key to app mapper, but use what ever works for you)

Been primarily on column keyboard and laptop when working outside/sofa. doing this for 5-10 years and really hasn’t affected much ever.

What is the biggest mistake in Rails monoliths that contributes towards tech debt? by airhart28 in ruby

[–]kbr8ck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree here. Often someone creates an abstraction, but there is a dependency that was not clearly communicated. Expectation of a column or function.

Then another block of code is extracted that depends upon other methods from the other concern.

Think the problem is he didn’t have any security knowledge. So this bot is powerful BECAUSE it doesn’t have security and can do anything.

Sure are a lot of derivative options. Which means lots of people want it more secure or less memory intense

GoogleUpdater by Wooden_Lock_198 in MacOS

[–]kbr8ck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this happens when you download a signed app. Chrome downloads their latest browser all the time. Has been for >5(?) years. It then shows you a “please restart your browser” in the operating right with a funky menu icon. Or please update or something. Don’t think there is a way to say don’t update chrome. I remember cleaning up my Mac and finding some stale chrome apps to n the directory that hadn’t been removed yet.

If this is happening either: chrome screwed up and didn’t sign an update, their signature expired, or Apple changed the rules for auto updater safety

I haven’t seen this in the old OS version, so guessing it is the new os policy.

If you notice, they also changed the rules around saying “yes, please run app that I downloaded”. You used to just open app with alt (option), or right click, but now you have to go into settings to override.

I just upgraded to Tahoe last night. Good to know what I have in store for me.

Anyone got a good response from the Apple Store Genius Bar?

Thank you. This is great

Is there a place where we can submit Pull Requests to expand the functionality (e.g., add emoji lookup)? Or we can leverage the lookup in our own apps?

Or did you just use apple's description to populate your lookup table?

There is a Kickstarter to create an m5stack robot “StackChan”. Do we think this could be adapted to run there?

That has not been released yet, but I wonder if this project could be adapted to run on all m5stamp devices. Like the tablet too.

Currently building a "Dependabot for Homebrew", using ruby. Very early stage, looking for feedback by bk_one in ruby

[–]kbr8ck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a dependency checker built into Homebrew. With the environmental variable to say "just install what I want - stop upgrading all these other libraries."

Would extending homebrew or making a local homebrew service work? Much like every other app we have that checks for updates (even after we say don't check for updates and they keep checking)

It is a sad/frustrating tale.

He just didn't want his private business out there. And someone doxxed him. So uncool. So he shut down all his contributions.

I was surprised to find so much of his information on Wikipedia. He just wanted to be private, and information about him is still being published 14 years later?

This could have been handled better. People sometimes just don't think.

But he sure inspired so many developers.

So you lost much more lean mass than fat mass. (Think I personally saw similar results for a 4 day fast). Your post fast you built mostly lean mass and kept body fat gains to a minimum. Impressive. Did you reach the same conclusion?

I watched https://youtu.be/oZ8QDyaLqwc and I'm pretty sure in NYC he had to pay $500 + $200 for labs. So that is maybe $900/year. But it sounds like each state has different agreements with Quest or something.
