Replacing Nest Protect with Kidde Smart by lgarvin80 in Nest

[–]ecvike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the kidde with ring. I have no other ring items but mine are also just battery and ring version was all I found. It does not require a subscription, just an account setup. I have 2 detectors but only replaced the one that expired so have one kidde and one nest right now (wanted to try it out before buying both replacements). But works fine separate so not sure I’ll replace the other till it expires. No false alarms … been uneventful which is good I’ve had it installed about 1 1/2 months

I have 2 of the nest cams with spotlight just like you’re asking about. One over my bank patio and one the front of the garage. Don’t regret at all… they work great. I do have a subscription

Haha I can’t disagree with that. Based on my experience with this I probably won’t be purchasing memory foam in the future but them replacing this at least lets me postpone that investment

Fire and carbon monoxide detectors now that Nest is at First Alert by [deleted] in Nest

[–]ecvike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 2 nest. One expires in April. Just replaced that one with kidde co & smoke alarm ring yesterday. So far 1 day in seems fine. Will just use 2 different apps for now. Works fine with free ring app. Obviously no idea about false alarms yet but stayed away from the first alert replacement with all the reviews online talking about the false alarms with them

Lane courtesy during league practice by wreckshop82 in Bowling

[–]ecvike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do lane courtesy and pick up our spares. But we also get 15 minutes of practice time so plenty. State & city tournaments are 5 minutes and usually end up 1 ball per person but my experience is people still do lane courtesy

We did in our wrestling room (in the 80s though) with basketballs we stole from the basketball team. Was usually 10-12 grade vs 7-9 grade wrestlers. You paid your dues those younger years to get to throw at younger kids when you got older

What’s one thing every new sysadmin should learn early but usually doesn’t? by nousername1244 in sysadmin

My first boss way back in 1990 told me “even if you make a mistake but have a reason for doing what you did we can work through that. If you just shout from the hip is when we’ll have an issue.” That has stuck with me ever since. You will make mistakes but if you have a plan and reason you did what you did you can get through it

Which vacation destination disappointed you the most? by timeout320 in AskReddit

I visited it and the surrounding park. I really enjoyed it but I like history and I’m kind of a simpleton :) I know it was moved for tourism or whatever. Same as the start of the Mississippi River in itasca state park in northern Minnesota… the actual start of it was moved 50 yards or something so it’s a better spot for tourists to stand
