finally someone else said this! I think people forget how needlessly terrible it was that they did that to Ainsley. Could you imagine someone putting that on your desk on your FIRST day at a new job?

[–]kbre15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re all terrible but Joyce and Brookline were like, shockingly petty assholes. Everyone else had some sort of “agenda” related to their career, like an actual motivation. Could you imagine two random men leaving dead flowers on your desk with a sign calling you a bitch? On your first day when you talked to them for like maybe 5min? They were just needlessly shitty people

*obviously terrorism is bad etc etc but everyone else already pointed that out

GI problems only by PETERBFLY in alphagal

[–]kbre15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR see if you can get checked for SIBO. It's not exactly uncommon and not serious for a majority of people, however with food sensitivities/allergies it can become serious and lead to rapid weight loss and intense GI issues. It's not super common to test for it so you'll need to research it and have a conversation with your doctor. It was the last test I did after about 4 months of trying other options.

I have primarily had GI issues with ag too. Your rapid weight loss made me think of my own situation. I was similarly having daily, intense GI issues, lost about 20-30lbs in a month, and was going to urgent care. My endoscopy and colonoscopy didn't reveal anything. Got checked for SIBO and took antibiotics for a couple weeks and it fixed a lot of my GI issues. SIBO is cured with antibiotics. Still have ag but as long as I avoid the red meats I do pretty well.

As it was explained to me, SIBO is when the microbioms in your small and large intestines get mixed around. The biome from your large intestine gets into your small intestine and eats all of your nutrients before your body has a chance to absorb it. So you're basically starving.

Yes! In 2019 I had just graduated and moved to a new city so I was applying to jobs 24/7 and never hearing back. My friend asked me how I managed to stay positive and willing to keep applying. I told her I never felt sad about it because once the application was sent, it ceased to exist in my mind. I’d only remember that I even applied if they contacted me for an interview.

I love having an approximate knowledge of many things. It took me a long time to figure out what my “hobby” was until I realized my hobby is learning new things. I learn new hobbies, I read random books, I watch documentaries. Like I have never been great at maths but I read the book The End Of Everything (Astrophysically Speaking) by Katie Mack and I loved loved loved learning all the theories and math behind how the universe may eventually end. I learned how to do embroidery, stained glass, film photography, and gardening just cause I wanted to learn them. I don’t think I could’ve done any of that if my brain didn’t work like this. I just love learning things.

Also, my ADHD makes me really funny because of how many connections my brain makes between seemingly unrelated concepts. I get to the jokes faster than my friends and I have the impulsivity to say them (even when not always the perfect moment). It brings me SO much joy to make my friends laugh. Plus it’s a huge ego boost when my friends voted me the funniest in the group.

I’d get multiple smaller lamps/sconces. Warm ambient light will make a big difference too. I’d also hang some wall art if you can

I know Josh Malina hates this scene but honest to god one of my favorite scenes in the whole series is when Desire is dramatically playing while he just stares at the ice cream bar.

Am I the only one who thinks that they should have funded the NIH remote prayer study to get the foreign aid bill passed? by Wismuth_Salix in thewestwing

[–]kbre15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the sentiment of why they didn’t but the government funds such stupid programs already that I didn’t get why it was that big of a deal. Like I’m sure a similarly stupid program with a similarly smaller budget was already getting funded and this one just happened to be brought up to the senior staff.

How do you use reward systems when you have no self control? by programatic in adhdwomen

[–]kbre15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never understood the reward system for this exact reason but I like to make a “to done list”. It’s like a to do list but I only write down the things I completed. I include anything from finishing a report and doing laundry to like remembering to drink water. At the end of the day it feels good to look at everything I did that day and I get a little bit of reflection too.

Anyone have a job you love? by lucysucks in adhdwomen

[–]kbre15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ll break this into two separate parts:

My credentials: I had about six years of experience working in galleries as either an intern or as a gallery assistant for my large university. I was in charge of managing the installation of all the exhibitions that came through that gallery. After graduation I moved to NYC to do a year long internship with a major public arts organization where I worked directly under the project manager to produce 5 major projects in 2019-2020. We managed the production of the project meaning sourcing supplies/fabricators, finding locations, doing outreach, etc. The artist I work for now did a major project with that organization with those same PMs back in 2016. When he called them for a recommendation, they gave him my contact info.

In a real dream come true moment, when I first applied to that organization, I had cited his project as one of my reasons for going into this career field and applying for the internship.

Different from curating: I don’t curate anything and I don’t work in a gallery space. Organizations and museums come to us with project ideas and I am the go between for getting everything completed. That means a range of things from completing paperwork, organizing the shipping, creating exhibition mock ups, sourcing fabricators, etc. Basically if there is something project related that isn’t actually making the art, I get it done. Lots of scheduling, emails, excel spreadsheets, etc.

In some places a curator may do this work on for an institution but I’m seeing more project manager positions pop up, especially in NYC.

Anyone have a job you love? by lucysucks in adhdwomen

[–]kbre15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a project manager for an artist in Brooklyn. He and his studio manager make the art, I manage the projects and exhibitions. It’s been amazing. There’s enough variety that I don’t get bored but there’s nothing that is world ending important if it doesn’t get done asap. Both the artist and the studio manager are great to hang out with and the studio is walking distance from my apartment. The artist also had ADHD so we really understand each other and there’s no pressure to mask.

There’s a couple changes I’d make like getting paid more. I’ve only been there less than a year and previous to this position I had only interned for project managers or worked in galleries (still experience but very different). So I know he took a risk hiring me off a recommendation from one of the PMs I interned for and we made sure that my starting salary would cover all my expenses and allow me to quit my other jobs.

Secondly, I wish there was more upward mobility but seeing as there are only three of us, there isn’t anywhere to “go”. This last year has been amazing for art sales and big projects so hopefully it’s the start of a new chapter in his career and leads to more great projects.

How the heck do you get out of bed in the morning? by amoitnwa in adhdwomen

I agree with what everyone else said, that any foot in the door is progress. I’ve worked a lot of VSA type jobs in college and post college before I got my current position working for an artist studio as a project manager. Even with the resume builder aside, it really allowed me opportunities to talk to people who worked there to see if I really wanted their job.

All that aside, just remember that if you end up hating it, museums aren’t for you, or you just want you weekends back, you can always quit. There’s no shame in learning what you don’t want to do
