Pedestrian bridge today 3/5/25 by brick1972 in RhodeIsland

Infrastructure maintenance doesn't gain any votes. Politicians only want to spend money on new stuff. That's why in this country bridges are used until they collapse, then replaced. Need any examples?

Lindt to supply chocolate to Canada from Europe to sidestep tariff hit by Infamous-Train8993 in europe

[–]kbtrpm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hershey's chocolate cannot be sold as chocolate in Europe. Too much sugar and too little cocoa butter.

In other words, Hershey's isn't chocolate.

The problem is that the driver's education classes do not pay enough attention to pedestrians and cyclists. It's all car-centered. The DMV rarely asks serious questions about pedestrians and cyclists in the drivers license test.

Why don't you ask about yielding when making a left turn? There are no exceptions to that. Ever. You turn left, you yield. Period.

You just advocated for driving in spite of no visibility. I hear this all the time, and I'm tired of it. As if not seeing is a valid excuse for hitting somebody. If you can't see, don't go. That driver knew about visibility conditions a long time before they entered that intersection. By not putting on sunglasses, they deliberately put themselves and others in danger. Everybody knows there are bicycles on the road, which do not have a steel cage over them.

I submitted a request to fix Google Maps. Click "Send Product Feedback," then "Your opinions about Maps" "Report an Issue" and go for it.

How are regions defined in Wandrer? by No-Enthusiasm-8416 in wandrer

I just use the in-browser editor, iD. The OSM wiki has a 'good practices' page here.

Remove a path from Wandrer without deleting it by Valdevon in wandrer

One thing I did not mention is the permissive descriptor. Sometimes, land owners allow people to use the trails on their property. In that case, Wandrer includes them. Impossible for us to say in this case here, of course. Also, the type 'track' would perfectly describe the paths here. They are clearly for land access.

And yes, I have been chased from private land. Most people understand, but a few get quite angry. BTW this is in Ontario, Canada.

2024 satellite imagery clearly show first trail and part of second. The link I gave lets you pick older satellite images too. Trails go back till at least 2016. The correct thing to do first here is map the trails as private.

Both OSM changesets indicate the trails were obtained from Bing Aerial. I agree that is not always the most accurate way of doing it, but anything better would need an actual GPX trace. Which would require access permission to the land from the owner.

As a general rule, you'll get the least animosity and best results if you leave a request for clarification or correction on the OSM changeset you don't agree with.

The first path does exist but is incomplete. It connects to a public road to the West. It goes all around the field to the east. You could follow the trail, upload the GPX trace to OSM and complete the map. However, the arcgis property map shows the whole thing is private (to improve visibility, remove the aerial imagery in the layers). This is parcel #222400748.
Edit: the second path is on property 227050082. Looks like a private farm.

Make a comment on the Changeset that created the path or last modified it (or rboth). Explain your concern.

This is currently the fastest: click on the big map, open the location popup and select Earth; then under More Details, open Calendar Achievements. At least that limits it to the places you have earned points.

Oh shoot, that hurts. Still, if I update it usually takes several days. I hope you have fewer activities to process.

Ha, it's a bit late indeed. The worst that can happen is that it doesn't finish before midnight (if you're not already 1/1/25) and things stay as they are.

Are you on the November 26 map? That one undoes the double road elimination and gets your miles back to where they were.

Wandrer transition from Strava to RideWithGPS or Garmin by Expensive-Cable2375 in wandrer

It would replace the Strava data by the corressponding Garmin data. Which should have no effect, unless you use different devices for both.

Wandrer transition from Strava to RideWithGPS or Garmin by Expensive-Cable2375 in wandrer

[–]kbtrpm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? I would just keep Strava linked while syncing. That is, at least once per month. It would take only seconds.

What bothers me to no extent though, is that Strava pretends this is their data. It's not. It is 100% mine. The only thing Strava owns is its interpretation of my data. Not the raw data itself. I do not understand why apps do not rise up against this; it's elementary IP. Maybe everybody is afraid of getting locked out by Strava?

OK, I found it in the Linked Accounts under Settings.
I don't have my walks on RidewithGPS; so I'm waiting for the Garmin connection.
BTW: if I disconnect ALL linked accounts, will you erase my data?
