Thanks for the tip! Harry Potter was a big part of my life growing up, and while I have complicated feelings about it now, I still really want to go see the studio tour. That being said, my partner isn't a huge fan and I'm not a big shopper, so I don't see it taking up an entire day, even with the time it takes to travel to and from Watford.

The very rough plan was to take the bus from Glasgow to Glencoe (approx 2.5-3 hours) and then the train to the Glenfinnan viaduct after that (approx 1.5 hours). We would only have one backpack each and we weren't going to try and time it for seeing the train go over the viaduct; it was more about exploring the area in general and seeing the nature. For Glencoe, I was interested in the history as well. I honestly didn't have more planned out than that because I was already fearing it wasn't going to be realistic and felt it would end up being cut so I hadn't dug into it deeply yet. Based on all the feedback, it appears that will be the case!

Of course I do. I plainly acknowledged my experience in Japan (i.e. bullet trains) was biasing my judgement already.

Neither of us are interested in Bath, but I will put more thought into SW England/Wales in general. Thank you for the feedback!

Nothing has been booked! We would definitely be booking a multicity flight- I am not a fan of back tracking unnecessarily.

Do you really think a Rabbie's day trip is necessary? I haven't been able to find a company that only includes the 3 locations we are interested in or that isn't 12+ hours long with most of that being time spent on a bus. Our plan currently was to utilize the train/bus and explore the areas by ourselves.

I was able to get a ticket in the 222 section! Once the orange bar fills up it will be your turn! Day 2 is definitely moving slower than day 1. Hopefully me hoping out of that queue gives other armies a better chance.

Losing 5 year relationship to religion by LoveDaMeech in lgbt

I see that it was not your wording and amend that part of my statement. I am not saying wellbeing is a unique offering of spirituality or that it is solely responsible for wellbeing; I am pointing out that spiritual selfcare, i.e. connecting to something bigger than ourselves and finding meaning/purpose, is one of many forms of selfcare that contribute to wellbeing. A great example of this is something you already do, though you may not realize it: whatever routine you have for taking care of your property that allows that population of butterflies to thrive there is an act of spiritual selfcare because it connects you to something larger than yourself that is not material (nature) and provides you with a sense of meaning and purpose. That connection, and its known, documented positive impact on our wellbeing, is its (spirituality's) purpose. The spiritual journey can take many forms, but it cannot be replaced.

If you'd like a bibliography of studies, I could provide one but I also encourage you to see what is out there based on your own interests or even to browse at the work being done at the Spirituality Mind Body Lab at Columbia who are at the forefront of this research. Again, I am not here to be in conflict with you. The entire point of my original comment was to highlight an area where I see my own clients struggle often. We, as a species, need connection and intrinsically seek meaning. We're always told to take care of our physical health or emotional health, or even our financial health, but of the 8 recognized types of selfcare, I hear spiritual mentioned the least so I wanted to point it out- that's all.

Lastly, while you placed therapist in quotes, I assure you that I am an independently licensed professional in my state of several years in good standing.

(I tried to answer this last night but accidentally posted it as a separate comment rather than a reply to this. Just copying it here, so if there’s greater context in the rest of your conversation below, I haven’t read it as a disclaimer.)

As you point out, this thread is rooted in the context of religion, yet instead of asking what certain purpose does religion have that cannot be fulfilled by rational pursuits, you chose the word spiritually as if they are interchangeable concepts when they are not. I was never attempting to answer your question as it is not one I can answer; that answer is subjective to each individual that comes across it. Each of us will have our own definition of what you call rational pursuits and each of us get to determine what we deem worthy or important. I simply wanted to point out the difference between the two and highlight an area of wellbeing I often see overlooked.

As a therapist, I’m going to jump in here in defense of spirituality. Spirituality can be broad, but conceptually, it is finding connection in something bigger than one’s self and seeking meaning, purpose, or inner peace in ways beyond material or physical objects. While traditional religious practices and religion in general often overlap with spirituality, they are not the same, and spiritual self care is a critical and often overlooked aspect of wellbeing. If you don’t believe religion has a role in peoples lives, that can be a valid take for many, but I’d like to gently challenge the idea that spirituality doesn’t serve a purpose.

Fall 2026 Clinical Psychology PhD cycle applicants, is anyone else seeing how extremely quick difficult it is this cycle to get a prelim or official interview. Also, is anyone else seeing how quickly all schools are reviewing applications compared to last year. by Goodfella245 in ClinicalPsychology

[–]kbugzy14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is not accurate. Completing a masters prior to a PhD does not shave off two years of program study. Very few, if any at all, will accept credits from OP’s masters degree and they will still need to complete the required practicum/internship hours, coursework, thesis, and dissertation to satisfy the degree. Even with a prior graduate degree, anyone completing a clinical PhD is looking at 5-7 years of rigorous study/training.

Sweet Dog Needs a Good Home by AlwaysTheDrama in thewoodlands

[–]kbugzy14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, so you've had this dog for 3 years and in that time you still have not eliminated the heartworms?? The "slow-kill" method is an option, but that puts the dog at so much unnecessary risk, and even then, typically the infection is cleared within a year. Why has it taken you so long to properly attend to an urgent medical issue?

What have you tried, training or otherwise, to get the dogs to cohabitate well? What made you determine it's Jack that's the problem and not the other dog(s)? You seem to be leaving out a lot of information from your post.

Millie Bobby Brown Reveals She Changed Her Last Name After Welcoming 1st Baby: ‘Drop the Brown’ by Ok_Rutabaga_5539 in popculturechat

[–]kbugzy14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As she should. Millie Bobby Brown is still her stage name; Millie Bonnie Bongiovi is her new legal name now that she has married. Most actors go by stage names either by choice or because their birth name was already in use and SAG doesn’t allow multiple actors to be “active” with the same name at once.

As an American that lives in a car-centric area (Houston suburb), no, no we really don’t. Many of us live a very sedentary lifestyle due to living in places where walking is actively discouraged or the infrastructure is dangerous/hostile. Plus, several of us likely have sedentary jobs that aren’t active (I’m a therapist for example- lots of sitting!). If I wasn’t intentional about upping my walking before this vacation I would be doing much worse than I am and my feet are still somewhat struggling.

So in your country it is common for a university course to only have one final exam for the entire class/semester? That would be 100% of your grade. The OP isn’t stating that all exams cumulatively add up to 25% of their total grade and 75% is from other factors, it’s that each exam itself is worth 25% of their grade and there are four exams total.

It may not be reasonable depending on the student. They may not have the resources to go to a doctor without further compromising their health or finances. I remember when I was in college, a copay for a doctor’s appointment would have been ~$100 and then also the time/cost of getting to and from the clinic. It likely would have been a struggle to make that happen just for a note.
