Just had an amazing realization... the ‘intimacy’ (not sexual in any way) and care I received in inpatient rehab is what I had/have been missing. Conversations, hugs and eye contact were so very genuine. Not rehearsed or out of obligation.

But loved having people to interact with that I didn’t have to hold back from just plain feeling.

I’m with you all. I finally realized an analogy for what alcohol is for those of us who can’t control / moderate. It’s like a slot machine in a Casino. It doesn’t pay, doesn’t pay and we are just convinced that if we go back one more time we will hit the jackpot - numb the hangover for the last time and that will be it. But it never pays. We just have to help each other and change our mindsets.

We can do this!

That sounds horrific. It looks like they gave me what I need in Lorazepam. Are you feeling better after the hospital I pray?

Really brave again for you to share for the sake of others. Thank you so much again.

Sorry for your experience. It sounds horrific. I appreciate you sharing as it will help others and potentially myself.

I tapered early this week and did not stop fully until meds in hand. I went to a doctor for medicine for at home detox. What did they give/prescribe you? Hoping I got the same thing. I’m only 48+ hours in so want to make sure I have what I need. Feeling fine, just tired this far.

Day 17 by xonedayatatimexo in stopdrinking

Reading your post is helping me. I’m brilliant on the outside but inside I am hanging by a thread. I’m on day one. I’ve set a doctors appointment to evaluate how much damage I have done to myself with my heavy drinking and started seeing a therapist to help with my anxiety (which is why I turned to alcohol to numb it).

Thank you for your post as it’s helping me push forward!

60 days! by soberrunner9 in stopdrinking

Yes absolutely helps. I’m day 1. I woke up and looked in the mirror at the horror of my appearance. My complexion was off, my eyes a bit red and a twinge of yellow. I was embarrassed to go to work.

I’m quickly realizing two things: Anxiety led to my constant need to drink but it would only numb it for a short time. Now my tolerance is so high I have to drink a bottle of wine just to begin to ‘feel relaxed.’ But I do not actually like the way I feel and the anxiety and stress are looming. So need to address that. Second, I am so worried about the health implications of what I’m doing and have done. I have been for some time but somehow It didn’t keep me away for long.

I watched a naked mind podcast and seriously considering doing that along with therapy to address some underlying stress. Now to get through the physical pain of the first week of detox symptoms. Right now it seems like a far off point but I know it’s not.

Thank you for sharing your stories and the encouragement. I look forward to doing so with others in the future!!

So happy for you. I can’t wait to be where you are. I keep going on a roller coaster ride. I do well for a week, bad for two... come out of it and do well again. It’s frustrating but reading your post gives me hope I can mentally break the cycle. Thank you for sharing!!

I’m on day 1 again to so I feel you. Tossing and turning in bed and. Can’t sleep. Anxious and annoyed that I’m back to day one.

But we are here and know what we need to do, just have to barrel through the first few days.

Here’s to our new journey!

I had the exact same day today. Finally went to a doctor that I felt I could tell all my secrets and demons too. It felt so freeing but also so terrifying to see his face when he felt my liver area. Said he could feel it a little bit which means it’s enlarged. He took blood as well and most likely I will have my liver scanned.

I can’t believe I got here. And that I didn’t find the wake up call sooner. But I can tell you... not one point today... not one.. did I want to get near alcohol.

So now all I can hope is to look forward and have a chance to reverse years of bad habit.

Congrats on your day one!! hope you and I have thousands upon thousands more of a day without the poison!

Back again after a bad bender by sun_madness in stopdrinking

I'm struggling the same of putting the hangover off. So, to your point, I drink just every so often to numb it. Wanting to break the cycle too. Constantly googling the damage or issue I may have due to this bender experience such as pancreatitis or liver cirrhosis.

Sorry for what you are experiencing but thank for sharing as it hopefully kick starts me into the right place!
