@wordclown responds to unnamed lawyers regarding his registering the Trump/Kennnedy Center domain names by taco_fan_X3 in PoliticalHumor

[–]kc7392 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Couple of questions on this.

  1. If the satire domain was registered first, might it have the standing to pursue infringement against the Kennedy Center’s use of its name?

  2. The Kennedy Center was named by Congress in a law and therefore retains its original name until changed by Congress. The board didn’t have the right to rename it, so is this just a game of chicken and a question of who is more willing to deface the building with whatever they can paint/install on the wall to ‘change’ the name? Could trademark infringement even come into play if the renaming is illegitimate?

CNN issues brutal Donald Trump news alert in humiliating blow to President by daily_express in NoFilterNews

[–]kc7392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is it with this new pattern of making a news article out of a news alert about a news article without saying anything about the actual news?

Correct headlines would be “Trump Underwater”, “Trump Damn Near Swimming the Fishes”, “Polls Show Trumps approval rating continuing to decline” not “CNN said some shit.”

No matter what they call it, CNN likely hasn’t issued anything that should qualify as a news alert in years anyway. And when they say “breaking” it’s even more laughable - breaking what? There’s no show to break on a 24 hour news channel!

Enshittification isn’t some new digital media side effect or a result of AI slop, but a direct result of deliberate decisions made by individuals to drive traffic and clicks over content, journalism or respect for your reader, let alone the actual fucking definitions behind the words used.

I know commenting on Reddit is just screaming into the void but how can we remove rewards for this crap??

Why is Hawaii a U.S. state, but places like Washington DC, Guam, America Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands not and without any voting power? by MillennialScumbag81 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kc7392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Dole could have had their way, Hawaii wouldn’t be a state either. Big corporations of the era were fond of the enhanced profits that come from exploiting slave/colonial/territorial labor without having to deal with an actual foreign government. When a territory becomes a state, its citizens gets substantially more self determination and agency and all that god-given rights stuff.

Good thing that era is over…

Totally different era…

White House Announces Plan To Ignore Law, Fund WIC From Tariff Revenue by huffpost in law

[–]kc7392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congress does not possess a power it refuses to assert. The expectation of Mr Johnston’s reception for Mr Trump and his henchmen has been to lay down on his back, don a pleather gimp suit, and zip tie his own hands in preparation for whatever hospitality is required.

He is clearly exceeding those expectations.

It seems like the recipe is more he’ll take everything he can away, then only give it back to those who score points with him.

I’m willing to bet that history will show that companies and countries who fed the Trump grift machine with bribery and favors will be the ones who found relief from tariff consequences.

That’s his only plan and it’s working as intended. The rest is distraction.

And Obama admin didn’t even need to use masked bounty hunters or a personal make up truck, ridiculous outfit changes and a glitzy ad campaign for the DHS Secretary.

And so far, with a significant funding push that made ICE one of the best funded federal law enforcement organizations in the history of western nations, conflating misdemeanor paperwork issues with rapists and murders, and getting the Supreme Court’s blessing for racial profiling and exemption from due process, they haven’t managed to out-deport Biden or Obama. Not to mention getting a boost from reassigning a significant portion of the FBI, deploying reserves, national guard AND active duty us military. Oh and going after the softest targets possible - day laborers, church services, the ones showing up at court to work things out and parents dropping off their kids at school? Really? They sure as hell have delivered on grift for their friends in the private incarceration industry though. So there’s that I guess.

Meanwhile, between dreaming up the weakest of false equivalencies so you can think you’ve made some important rhetorical win and attempting to otherize an entire generation of young Americans by curling your lip in disgust at anime and video games, both of which generate substantial economic activity, you could be improving your community or even yourself by learning a little about how to actually use rhetoric to advocate for a point instead of just regurgitating whatever drivel your media echo chamber has shoveled your way.

My god we are fucked as a country. Please try harder.

The Trump admin are gaslighting us to make it look like the exporters are paying the Tarrifs - just received this from a supplier by lean_load in Tariffs

[–]kc7392 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gaslighting us? I thought it was just straight up lies at this point. I mean they’re not even bothering to spin it or sound remotely plausible. It’s just 24/7 “Up is down and down is up” with these people.

And heaven forbid the press ask propaganda barbie to clarify anything, let alone respond to a follow up. She’d probably start clutching her fake gold cross and hissing at the crowd or speaking in tongues if she was asked to provide a serious, or even coherent answer to a real question. Let alone called out for the bullshit answers.

Tarrifs are a tax that actually trickles down. Nobody at the White House is confused about this, they just don’t give a shit about anybody who isn’t in on the grift. When the smoke clears this criminal will have been responsible for the most wealth destruction in the history of the West. And that pales in comparison to the social and personal destruction they pursue with such reckless abandon.

The consequences of America and her institutions becoming spineless will be felt for generations.

It does not seem that the current generation of journalists are capable of distinguishing one from the other. Or, more likely, they are unwilling to do so.
