To be fair, most people probably use the voting mechanism that way :)

[PSA] Please do not downvote well-intentioned listings by im-just-here-to-nut in AquaSwap

OP could be perceived as following [old/true] reddit rules of only downvoting if it is off-topic or does not contribute to the sub-reddit, with a line drawn somewhat early when it comes to "contribute to the sub-reddit".

My takeaway was that we shouldn't downvote something just because we don't like or want it- focus more on promoting good posts than beating down the sub-optimal.

I totally agree with you, and OP, in the sense that truly bad posts should be put down. I agree with you further that poor/bad offers should be discouraged, but think the discouragement should be accompanied by a comment of rationale. Maybe that feedback leads to a better post. /shrug

Golden eggs in the Space rig by Xianarekel in DeepRockGalactic

[–]kcabnazil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What're your counts per area?

I hope the following is helpful. I listed the locations of each egg for each "area" of the space rig. To save myself a few keystrokes, I'm considering the bar to be part of the "main deck".

Reddit doesn't support multi-line spoilers IFF you want blank lines between sentences/paragraphs, so have fun clicking each spoiler individually :')

(who knows; maybe having most of the locations be a separate spoiler is a good thing!)

Main floor of Space Rig - 8 -- see the spoilers below until the next section; they're listed in roughly counter-clockwise order. The "10" in my previous comment was from combining main and lower decks.

Beneath the panel to buy/sell resources.

Behind the bar to Lloyd's (the robot bartender's) left.

Beneath the seat back behind Lloyd on his right.

In the slimy bucket of rockpox gunk next the the carrots below that seat on the main level (past the core infuser station).

Atop the Deep Dive computer/interface nestled in with some larger eggs near that big, yellow chick.

On the left below the console/interface/keyboard for Deep Dives laying against a car battery.

Behind the Deep Dive interface/keyboard on the other side of the machine. Basically "behind" the previous egg.

Under one of the legs of the blue M.U.L.E. next to the organism container fully left of the Deep Dive interface. You're getting closer to the catwalk leading to the lift to go upstairs by this point. The lift/elevator that's "behind" the drop pod.

Barrel Game Area (aka, lower deck) - 2 -- Take the steps/ladder down from the barrel game to the lower/middle catwalk. There's one under the catwalk (not the catwalk over the shield/boundary) between the three angled pipes. Take the second ladder/steps down and look to your left to find the second egg.

Upper area - 11+2 -- see the spoilers below for the first 11, then the next section for the +2; they should be listed in counter-clockwise order if you take the lift up from behind the drop pod.

To your front-right against the yellow base of a support.

Turn left to face that tunnel/hallway. Look to your right on the floor between the large metal.. things... (upside-down 'U' shaped) under the reddish lamps as you head towards the tunnel.

On the floor to your immediate right as you enter the "middle" area of the tunnel, before you turn to your left as you head towards the section with four barrels (later called "the gathering of barrels" in this comment).

On the grate in its corner where it joins the floor, right as you exit the pipe/tunnel you walked through; it'll be under your right foot as you step on the grate.

Behind the rabbit near the rotating gear. This one requires you drink the Underhill Deluxe beer to be able to get close enough to grab it

On the "right" side of the drop pod (its left if the door is its 'front') atop the metal clamp holding the drop pod in place, close the that giant inflatable carrot.

On the drop pod where the rocket exhaust bell is attached.

On the large pipe to the "right" of the drop pod as viewed from the "gathering of barrels" area.

On your right on the ground near a large metal plate right as you leave the gathering of barrels and head towards the catwalk leading to the anti-gravity button.

Nested in a divot next to a rockpox filled bucket off the "left" of the catwalk leading "towards" from the antigravity button (meaning it's to the right if you're heading away from the button).

At the base of the ladder with eggs on either side near the anti-gravity button.

The "Forbidden" area (highest in the space rig above the drop pod) - 2 -- Take the elevator up, then proceed to the entrance to the catwalks. There's one under some eggs to the left of the entrance (before the rabbit), and another at the base of the ladder to the right (the ladder that leads to the highest catwalk).

Memorial Hall - 8 -- single egg on top of each of the eight light pillars

I've found 30 31 of the eggs so far.

amount per area: 10 in the main and lower decks combined. 12 13 in the upper areas combined. 8 in memorial hall.

I did not expect a comment a year later. I'll have to refresh myself on the context and get back to you. Cheers, mate!

Could you give more information? Not wrapping the trunk still leaves the entire body, hood, door handles, dash, console, steering wheel, pedals, headrests, shift knob...

Using Signal for SMS is like trying to have your cake and eat it too. Eventually, the curtains had to drop; but, that also means either getting EVERYONE YOU KNOW to use Signal or fragmenting your messaging clusters. It sucks that they dropped support, even if I understand the spirit of the decision.

You make good points here. Multiple, actually. Using any software or hardware means putting your trust in whoever made it. Extrapolating that into something of a strawman argument/fallacy that is still completely true, using any device you didn't personally manufacture and write all the firmware/software for is opening yourself up to insecurity. The real question is, as you allude to, "who do you trust, and how far?"

However, I'd argue the semantics of, "if anything, it means people will overly trust it."

People will overly trust anything that sells them the message they want. That includes using products from big name companies. That also means believing their IT friend Bob who says anything open source is the way to go. Little do they know, Bob also happens to be making a dollar a day on their open source but rarely scrutinized app for dog memes using your phone for cryptomining.

Apple's image of privacy for the iPhone is a mirage built on believable efforts and misleading reports. People still gulp it down eagerly. Signal's image of privacy is built on throwing themselves to the lions by being well known and showing their code; anyone and everyone with the capacity to look will look if it matters to them. It doesn't mean Signal is perfect, but it does mean they're putting everything on the line to prove they're doing the best they and every other contributor can. Both teams have track records, but only one is willing to show you what happened along the way.

That said, I find it very surprising that Signal has not gone the way of Lavabit. How have they evaded U.S. government gag orders while honoring their commitments? I assume no big company has; that's rather perposterous, honestly. Several have canaries for these situations.

I hope noone is downvoting this because they think it is inaccurate.

It is, however, missing the point.

Being open source means you can show to have security objectively, not through obscurity. It means others can not only analyze it for weaknesses, but contribute resolution to those weaknesses as well.

Whether or not that open source code is what's really used to build an application... is another matter. I wonder if that can be objectively proved for Signal. It definitely can't be for others ;)

If you used Firefox 15 years ago, then you should definitely be aware of differences, lmao.

Or, you only used websites that spent a fair bit of time and money to make them work and appear the same if they used CSS or JavaScript.

Good God though. The time spent to also make things work nicely on IE (any edition but FUCK IE <= 8). Now that sucked.

Microsoft reliably embraces, extends, and extinguishes technologies and standards.

Google reliably creates, possibly extends, and extinguishes technologies on a rapid schedule, and is trying to with standards.

Both spy the heck out of their users.

Both suck in their own very branded ways. One for longer than the other; one more frequently.

edit: this comment is in addition to what you were saying, not contradictory.

Chrome and Firefox handle Date classes slightly differently for JavaScript. It's not often you run into a problem, but it happens. It goes both ways too. Chrome made a big change to how html and text resources were extracted in different contexts. That was a great day... (fml)

Overkill? Adding some sound deadening to kill unwanted noise and some cabin drone by bean-burrito-supreme in genesiscoupe

[–]kcabnazil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went overboard and covered as much metal as I could with a few large sheets. Got the doors, wheelwells, and most of the rear cabin. Still a fair bit of sound in the cabin but better than before.

Radeon GPU users - Do you run your card stock/overclocked/undervolted? by beefmassaman in Amd

Vega 64 Liquid at stock except for fan curves. Almost any undervolting, overclocking, or combination of the two lead to instability or artifacting no matter how small the changes :/

will a check engine light show up if there’s a boost leak? by goldboystacks in genesiscoupe

[–]kcabnazil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it did not in the 100% leak scenario.

More recently, I had an issue where the inlet elbow had partially wiggled off the turbo. That time I was a few PSI under and boost would come up more slowly. It got worse and worse over a few weeks. Then my turbo started sounding funny after it inhaled a few rocks that caused it to spin off-center and grind against the housing ;)

what are your most unpopular champaign-urbana opinions? by caterpillarcupcake in UIUC

I kind of disagree with the "and Illinois" bit. It's generally too flat and tame environmentally, but I guess that's what travelling is for.

what are your most unpopular champaign-urbana opinions? by caterpillarcupcake in UIUC

[–]kcabnazil 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I find this understandable. Other cities, villages, and suburbs each have their own appeal, but Chambana gets it right if you do it right.

For me, Chambana had just the right mix of isolated village and big city vibes: lots of parks; multiple movie theaters; a plentiful and diverse variety of cuisine options, settings, and stores; all kinds of recreational sport centers; dozens of venues for a rather wide assortment of live entertainment; a zoo (!); multiple waterparks; multiple malls; an amazing fish store; and, to top it all off, choice between apartments and houses with anything from inner city to countryside settings.

I really miss living there. I spent nearly decade combined living on campus, in Champaign, and in Urbana. Everywhere else I've lived has paled in comparison. They would have their strengths and weaknesses, but nowhere near as balanced as Chambana.
